Really regretting getting the Covid jab (warning pity party)

FlemCandango · 29/11/2023 12:27

I had my COVID vaccination on Saturday. I have had all the available boosters since lockdown as I have had some health issues that put me in a "slightly vulnerable to COVID" category.

Went to local chemist had the jab and a charity shop mooch, then came home all fine. 10-12 hours later I start feeling ropey. I know I might be in for a rough night as I have been known to react badly. So I had violent chills, followed by feverishness, crazy fever dreams, headache untouched by paracetamol, couldn't get out of bed for a wee without help, joint pain, nausea, loss of appetite ... This went on for 24 hours. I was still a wreck on Monday, so day off work, Tuesday tired but felt better and felt normal by the evening. I expected to be back at work today.

Then in the middle of the night, chills again I was shivering violently, headache returned plus sore throat and a cough. Most likely an opportunistic virus 🦠 but I am wondering why I put myself through all this🙄

Not sure if the net benefit outweighs the massively inconvenient time off work and feeling like shit-ness of it all.

I will think hard before taking the next booster if offered. I have the flu jab every year - never any issues with that one.

There are two things here though. The vaccine reaction, which is a normal reaction (albeit unpleasant), and the onset of whatever virus you have.

I really do not understand these “Oh I had a horrible reaction to the vaccine and then when I got Covid it was no worse than a bad cold” people.

Yes.
That’s the whole point.

Imagine how much worse it could have been if you had not already been primed with antibodies, like it was for Sumerian’s daughter.

I haven't had any of the jabs - had Covid once in 2021 and the mildest symptoms of anyone I know.

Conversely, I know multiple people - not CEV - who despite having multiple jabs, they've had Covid multiple times and each time it's 'floored' them (their words).

Blanketpolicy · 29/11/2023 18:16

First one I was fine. The previous two boosters I had I was up all night being sick. This one no reactions at all.

I like to think any reaction is your body working building the immunity, and if I had caught the real thing it would still have been much worse, so is still worth it.

VickyEadieofThigh · 29/11/2023 18:23

Millions and millions (billions?) of Covid jabs have been given. There must be quite a high number of which there followed entirely coincidental illnesses and health incidents.

My brother had his first jab and suffered a detached retina shortly after. It was entirely coincidental.

wildlifeWalker · 29/11/2023 18:24

I had Astra Zeneca x2 (first jab I was sooo ill with) second a bit of a headache but I didn't get any more afterwards. No boosters which would have been Pfizer despite the many texts and email prompts. I just couldn't go through that again.

I actually think I had Covid back in December 2019/Jan 2020 which completely floored me and left me breathless for about 3 months afterwards. Hopefully my T Cells recognise this as I haven't had Covid yet (touch wood!).

Josette77 · 29/11/2023 18:24

I had two and declined my third.

It messed with my hormones so badly and I already have endometriosis.

I didn't menstruate for months but lived with a constant endo flair.

The second was worst because even my breast on the one side swelled up. It freaked me out.

I was such a provaxxer. Annoyingly so.

Not anymore..

One of my closest friends has had neurological issues ever since. Apparently her doctors all acknowledge it is a side effect.

She was formally active, healthy, she's young..
Now she is in constant pain..

Toesaresoweird · 29/11/2023 18:25

I got the booster and felt like shit. I really struggled at work. Then a few weeks later everyone in the office caught COVID and I had a mild version. I managed to keep going when they were very ill. The booster hurt my arm like hell. I couldn't sleep on it for days. I'd roll over and wake up in agony. I've never felt pain like it. Worth it though.

user1471538283 · 29/11/2023 18:28

I was so rough with the very first jab and I was off work, in bed for 5 days. But I took comfort that I could breathe! The bit about COVID that scared me the most was not being able to breathe.

I'm sorry you are so poorly but I do think you need the jabs.

Vintagevixen · 29/11/2023 18:28

I had very similar with AZ as my first jab in 2021.

Never bothered going back for another one - that reaction was NOT good.

Had Covid x 3 since then - a mild cold each time.

AwfullyWeeBillyBigchin · 29/11/2023 18:30

You can't get COVID from the jabs because there's no live virus in them. You feel ropey because your body is responding to what it thinks is an illness.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 29/11/2023 18:31

I was incredibly unwell after the 2 initial vaccines - both floored me for a good 3/4 weeks, couldn't walk my dogs, couldn't work. I've never been so miserable in my entire life and it was massively disruptive to my business. GP was dismissive and judged it as my immune system "over reacting" - no shit, Sherlock.

I've signed a form at the GP's now that I'm not having either flu or covid vaccines and it's an informed decision. I don't care if other people have them or not but I'm certainly never having another.

wildlifeWalker · 29/11/2023 18:33

Crikeyalmighty · 29/11/2023 13:49

@Mummyoflittledragon it's crap isn't it- I think it's a really individual thing and some of us are just more suseptible to a bad reaction- it gave me very weird spacey lightheadedness, a weak wobbly leg, persistent back of head migraines, neck pain , internal vibrations and chronic pins and needles in feet and the occasional buzzing finger. I saw a neurologist as was convinced I had MS or worse.

I didn't know about the side affect of the internal vibrations! How long did they last? Weirdly I'm still having them a couple of years later.

I think people really need to stop getting this unnecessary jab now.

@BethDuttonsTwin

i think people really need to mind their own business.

you might consider it 'unnecessary' many of us do not.

@FlemCandango im sorry you feel SO awful, but hopefully when you feel better, you'll see you're just unwell & frustrated. There's SO much going around, lots of people unwell who haven't yet had the booster.

unlikely to be caused by having the jab

I hope you're well soon!!

Interesting first and completely incomprehensible post on Mumsnet. 🙄

allmycats · 29/11/2023 18:47

I have had all the Covid injections when offered. I have been fine with the Pfizer, but, just once, I had AstraZeneca. I was very ill with the Astra and if I was offered it again I would refuse.

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 29/11/2023 18:48

For those dismissive of medication induced side effects, try living with my neurological involuntary movement disorder called tardive dyskinesia that was caused by some prescribed off label antipsychotic during a breakdown after a head injury.

I'm still suffering from it 9 years later and it's made my life a living hell at times. Side effects are a huge risk in reality for some poor susceptible people who are more vulnerable to the toxic effects. I know that my body can't metabolise the way toxins are produced by various different medication and I had a pharmacogenetics test to help avoid any further damage and problems.

Flossflower · 29/11/2023 12:54

But you know that is wasn’t the jab that made you ill.

I’ve had 2 severe vaccine injuries. Agreed and signed off by consultant and GP. Claim in with VDPS currently.

They can absolutely make you very ill. And I’m pro vax

Twoshoesnewshoes · 29/11/2023 18:52

I responded really badly to three vaccinations, had COVID four times much later - once badly and three times just a cold.
my DS, now 19, has never had any vaccinations for Covid. He’s had it twice, very mildly. So just a one off example but certainly he didn’t have mild Covid due to previous vaccination.

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 29/11/2023 18:52

4939 · 29/11/2023 17:40

Ill with side effects with all of the 4 I have had regardless of manufacturer. I could have a fifth this season but am not. Have had COVID twice and not as poorly at all as with the vaccinations - possibly due having had the vaccinations of course.

I have a medical background and understand how they work and how the immune system can respond. For me, the unwanted negative effects outweigh any possible benefit to having a fifth vaccine at the moment. If there is a particularly dangerous new variant with a new vaccine I shall likely have it as benefit may then outweigh side effects as it did for first couple.
Personal choice. Don’t let side effects put you off any medicine/treatment. (Have also had chemo which was awful worse thing ever but did indeed save me)

I'm afraid i don't think I agree with you on side effects. I am not anti medicine per se, but after being injured by the very drugs meant to help me, understandably I'm a little more cautious now.

Iwasafool · 29/11/2023 18:54

I've never had a problem with the covid jabs, the shingles jab was a whole different ball game and I felt really ill for a few days. The nurse did warn me though.

Tribblesarelovely · 29/11/2023 18:55

Flossflower · 29/11/2023 12:54

But you know that is wasn’t the jab that made you ill.

It probably was. I’ve had the same reaction to every Covid jab, it just means that your immune system is overreacting . I dread having it now, but it’s better than having Covid.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/11/2023 18:56

@wildlifeWalker I had them a lot for about 5 months and they gradually receded- it was like I had a battery switched on in my lower legs-intermittent, not continuous but most days for several times- I get it occasionally now but nothing like as much- I got the occasional really buzzy finger too - that was odd

They started receding when I used magnesium spray on my lower legs-a weird one I know- got the tip from the long covid Facebook forum

Iwasafool · 29/11/2023 18:59

Vintagevixen · 29/11/2023 18:28

You can't predict how bad covid will be. I had it very badly nearly 20 months ago, just about over it now. I took part in a study and part of it was blood tests and they told me they could see I had covid, could see I'd had vaccines and could see I'd had covid before. The first time I didn't even know I had it, the second time I was very ill. It is a weird virus.

SarahShorty · 29/11/2023 19:01

If i could wind the clock back and not get the jabs, I would. DH and I were very lucky and had competent medics who administered it correctly each time, ie not in the vein. Although we never got covid, we never tested for it because we never had the need to, as in we never went anywhere or needed a service that required we test for it mainly because, well, hello, we were locked in our home. My MIL was very pushy and declared anyone hesitant of having the jabs as selfish and unworthy of getting any treatment should they fall ill. Three years later, she's walked it all back with regret, but it's too late for some people and frankly just not good enough. And then Russia invaded Ukraine and suddenly covid disappeared. Some people in this country were and still are utterly insane. I'm pro-vax, but very against making vaccines mandatory.

Willyoujustbequiet · 29/11/2023 19:09

DontGoBreakingMyHeart · 29/11/2023 15:12

I don’t know anyone who reacted to the first jab and it’s certainly not true that everyone was affected.

And they warn you after any vaccination that you may develop a fever/chills/muscle pain after.

You get that advice when your dc are vaccinated with their baby shots, their MMR, people who have the flu vaccine get the same advice.

So let’s stop this anti covid vacs hysteria and not make it into something it isn’t.

It's not hysteria when it's been proven to be the cause of death at inquest.

And countries worldwide have withdrawn the AZ jab due to 'the known risk of severe adverse effects'.

It's objective fact
