Really regretting getting the Covid jab (warning pity party)

FlemCandango · 29/11/2023 12:27

I had my COVID vaccination on Saturday. I have had all the available boosters since lockdown as I have had some health issues that put me in a "slightly vulnerable to COVID" category.

Went to local chemist had the jab and a charity shop mooch, then came home all fine. 10-12 hours later I start feeling ropey. I know I might be in for a rough night as I have been known to react badly. So I had violent chills, followed by feverishness, crazy fever dreams, headache untouched by paracetamol, couldn't get out of bed for a wee without help, joint pain, nausea, loss of appetite ... This went on for 24 hours. I was still a wreck on Monday, so day off work, Tuesday tired but felt better and felt normal by the evening. I expected to be back at work today.

Then in the middle of the night, chills again I was shivering violently, headache returned plus sore throat and a cough. Most likely an opportunistic virus 🦠 but I am wondering why I put myself through all this🙄

Not sure if the net benefit outweighs the massively inconvenient time off work and feeling like shit-ness of it all.

I will think hard before taking the next booster if offered. I have the flu jab every year - never any issues with that one.

Given the actual meaning and import of herd immunity (ie about 90% of the population needs to be vaccinated to protect the 10% who can’t, yes, probably everyone paying attention in GCSE science or all those government briefings actually does care.

Yes, of course, but on an individual level, I don’t care about the randomers online who rabbit on and on about not being vaccinated.

I'll never get the covid jab again. Had it twice and thought I was gonna die, I have never felt so unwell.

Had covid several times (both before and after the vaccines) and it was an annoying cold. A bad cold, but a cold, nothing compares to the jab side effects.

Never again!!!

Ditto. First vaccine I could barely move from bed for 3 days. Second my arm swelled up, was scarlet and boiling hot to the touch plus I had a fever. I didn’t take the booster(s)

Ive had Covid twice that I know of and both times it was a cold that I wouldn’t ever have known was Covid if I hadn’t tested - and I only tested because friends I’d been with tested positive.

No more jabs for me. That’s my lot.

But the thing is the huge majority did get vaccinated where it was offered. Like millions. How many million in the UK? And Billions across the world. Sorry cba googling.

So I know I'm fortunate in not having to be concerned with those who DIDN'T take it.

I have had all the boosters. Felt mildly ill twice. I have had covid twice, which was much worse than the jabs. Everyone is different. Millions more people have died from covid than the vaccine. That says something, does it not?

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 11:29

You keep mentioning other people being " pissed off" or "annoyed " . I kind of think it says more about you.

@Jumpingthruhoops .

Why would I be annoyed? The majority, in their droves, had the vaccine. And boringly, I probably feel like most of them.

It's a positive, it's worth the medical risk and I'm grateful it came about.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 09/12/2023 11:35

I would say “rational” not boring @sunglassesonthetable.

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 11:38

@CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau

Yes I think it's rational. I said boring in that it's not the controversial position . In terms of numbers it s the position that the overwhelming majority went with.

EasternStandard · 09/12/2023 11:43

I think the way people feel is to be expected to an extent

We were in dire straits, we needed a vaccine. It had downsides which, if had been focused upon could have had an impact on uptake. So messaging was ordered

People spoke up at the time, felt overridden or mocked etc (a bit on this thread again which isn't helpful imo) and now they can see their views at the time shouldn’t have been

Overall I’m on the side of tg we had a vaccine as I found the pandemic approach very damaging generally but I can see why @Jumpingthruhoops posts as she does

My conclusion is I hope we have a good long break before the same is needed because trust may be down and ability to do the tough stuff hampered

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 12:05

There's ' how people feel ' and there's coming onto a thread and saying " i know 6 people that strokes from the vaccine.".

If people are relaying actual events then why would that be an issue?

No one can back anything up if not in the press anyway, or stats, keep it in mind on mn anyway

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 12:20

We're not talking about posters who back up those kind of statements.

Jumpingthruhoops · 09/12/2023 12:30

That wasn't my intention, so sincere apologies if that's how it came across.
I know lots of people who are vax injured... two fatally. So I have nothing but sympathy as all of my previous posts have shown.

That said, I also know that when people are this hostile, it's often because they're projecting an insecurity. And I definitely think that's been the case on this thread.

The irony is that, throughout Covid, while many of the vaccine hesitant were simply trying to minimise harm (for instance, those who were concerned about the jab for kids), vax extremists were wishing people dead! I wish I was joking...

100% this. The abuse a lot of people took for merely expressing caution was frankly vile. Now people HAVE been harmed... and the vax extremists are STILL going! 😫

Thanks for your reasoned posts. You're clearly someone who gets it. I know I've been tagged elsewhere but I'm SO over engaging with those people...

Projecting insecurity about what? I have had all the vaccines and have no insecurity about that fact.

Those 'vax extremists' sound appalling. But there is no irony.

There was appalling behaviour and words on EVERYSIDE of the opinion. And it is entirely disingenuous to propose different.

You could take your sentence above and simply swap in Pro Vax and Anti Vax and then swap the places in the sentence. It would work every way.

And seriously do you actually think those " vax extremists" are on this thread?

@Jumpingthruhoops

Please stop. The abuse people took for expressing a positive view towards vaccines was also vile.

And likewise the Anti Vax extremists are still going.

Agree. The thread remains. And it's is really, really clear where there is hostility.

Project away.

There was hostility and insanity and inexcusable behaviour from both extreme sides. From the “the vaccine has a microchip and you’re all sheep” to the “I’m still quarantining my post, still isolating even though I’m healthy and I’m still calling others granny killers in 2023”. The vast majority of people aren’t at either end of the extreme.

I think it is extremely important to share any factual information you may have. These days, people do their information online. We know (from the covid enquiry) that the government fucked up a lot and made bad decisions. It’s not a stretch to think bad decisions were made about who to offer the vaccine to, and which one, and when. However, I have an issue with people downright scaring others. It wasn’t ok in March 2020 and it isn’t ok with others. I mean that either way - either scaring them into “you granny murdered, get your jab” or “I know 72 people who had strokes and 15 who died”.

I think people quarantining their post were driven by anxiety more than hostility.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 09/12/2023 19:29

Yes. Also the danger posed by the virus hasn’t actually gone away just because we’ve learned to live with it. It’s as if a serial killer had been going around killing 1-5% of people they met and disabling plenty of others and we just decided oh, it’s been three years, so they must have become harmless.

GreekDogRescue · 09/12/2023 20:17

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/12/2023 08:20

Yeah, but you just insulted me in your earlier post.

So you’re still talking crap.

If you’re questioning the jab and don’t take it you’re an anti-vaxxer. It’s that simple.

It must be wonderful to see the world in such simplistic terms.

Abbimae · 09/12/2023 20:19

What a wet rag. Imagine getting the long term health issues Covid causes. Man up. This thread appears to just be sad vaccine trolls and people who don’t understand Covid is a multisystemic nasty disease

Jumpingthruhoops · 11/12/2023 01:41

EasternStandard · 09/12/2023 13:05

Why are people hostile though?

Lots of reasons, including, but not limited to:
-Because people genuinely believed they were doing something for the 'greater good' and couldn't understand those who wouldn't/couldn't do the same, whatever their reasons.
-Because people are suspicious of those who don't 'conform'; they view this defiance as a judgement/slight on their own behaviour. Cue accusations of: 'You think you're better than us!' Just for daring to make a different decision.
-Because those who felt peer/financially pressured to take the vax, resent those who felt able to resist, even more so if they were then among those injured, so they lash out.
And a multitude of other reasons - but these are the main ones.
