Really regretting getting the Covid jab (warning pity party)

FlemCandango · 29/11/2023 12:27

I had my COVID vaccination on Saturday. I have had all the available boosters since lockdown as I have had some health issues that put me in a "slightly vulnerable to COVID" category.

Went to local chemist had the jab and a charity shop mooch, then came home all fine. 10-12 hours later I start feeling ropey. I know I might be in for a rough night as I have been known to react badly. So I had violent chills, followed by feverishness, crazy fever dreams, headache untouched by paracetamol, couldn't get out of bed for a wee without help, joint pain, nausea, loss of appetite ... This went on for 24 hours. I was still a wreck on Monday, so day off work, Tuesday tired but felt better and felt normal by the evening. I expected to be back at work today.

Then in the middle of the night, chills again I was shivering violently, headache returned plus sore throat and a cough. Most likely an opportunistic virus 🦠 but I am wondering why I put myself through all this🙄

Not sure if the net benefit outweighs the massively inconvenient time off work and feeling like shit-ness of it all.

I will think hard before taking the next booster if offered. I have the flu jab every year - never any issues with that one.

I had mine yesterday as I am a carer and feel totally shite today. But I also had covid recently and really don't want it again, or at least not as badly, as I felt terrible. So in short, I will put up with this quite gladly.

Sumerian your poor daughter. Glad she is on the mend.

I think people really need to stop getting this unnecessary jab now.

It most certainly is not an unnecessary jab. People are still.dying from COVID. One of my friends has just been hospitalised with it. Even if you don't become seriously ill long COVID is miserable and I know someone with that too.
I has the COVID and flu jabs at the same time in October and had no reaction at all.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 29/11/2023 12:58

I've just had my booster as also vulnerable and have felt awful since. Primarily a crushing headache and fatigue. I felt the same after my first vaccination but had no symptoms after previous boosters. The nurse said this booster had been 'upgraded' to cover newer variants.

Still better than being hospitalised and/or dying though.

I am the same. First vaccine felt awful afterwards, rest of boosters were fine until this one.

FlemCandango · 29/11/2023 13:41

I am pretty sure that this was a bad COVID jab reaction (the perfect timing of the onset) closely followed by the onset of a virus I don't think it is either, it is both. I know that I have had similar bad reactions to all but the initial COVID vaccination.

I have had actual COVID and that was pretty dreadful as well no doubt. But when you are having horrific fever dreams at 3am and shivering so violently that the bed shakes it does make you question the choice you made to have the injection that precipitated it all!

I developed all kinds of neurological stuff 4 days after my 4th vaccine. Most of it has gone after about a year with vitamins and supplements galore , masses of water, deep breathing, gluten free, no sugar etc - but the first 6 months were truly awful and very frightening- won't be having another- I'm not anti vax as my H and son had no issues at all - but I personally definitely had a very bad response on the 4th

Goodness, that sounds scary. What kind of neurological things did you have, if you don't mind me asking?

Cornettoninja · 29/11/2023 13:47

There are a lot of very similar sounding lurgies flying about at the moment (including Covid). I’m not long over something that made my throat terrible.

I think you’re not meant to have the Covid or flu jab if you’ve got illness symptoms but obviously you weren’t showing anything at the time. On balance I think you were likely already brewing something and the vaccinations have tipped you over the edge into feeling really rough.

I tend to feel a bit crappy with vaccinations but nothing I’d mistake for being really ill iyswim.

I had this reaction with the very first CV jab. I remember thinking that if this was how I reacted to the jab, how bad would actually getting the full blown virus have been? No further issues with boosters.

OP just think how you may have felt catching CV, and how many more potential days off, which is still very much around in our area. That's just a more postive way to think about your booster - whether true or not!

DH has had it too as considered vulnerable without any issues.

I had a pretty severe reaction to the first jab.

Still was sooo much better than getting delta (IIRC) in november 2020 (obviously pre CV). It therefore didn´t seem that bad in comparison. 😅

Nightmarerels · 29/11/2023 13:48

I developed acute myocarditis after getting one. Confirmed by a cardiologist and reported as a side effect. Feel so frustrated when I see people talking about heartburn and palpitations after the Covid vaccine and it getting brushed off as anxiety or the perimenopause. Men don’t get health issues brushed off this way.

I am not an anti vaxxer as I got it and was injured.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/11/2023 13:49

@Mummyoflittledragon it's crap isn't it- I think it's a really individual thing and some of us are just more suseptible to a bad reaction- it gave me very weird spacey lightheadedness, a weak wobbly leg, persistent back of head migraines, neck pain , internal vibrations and chronic pins and needles in feet and the occasional buzzing finger. I saw a neurologist as was convinced I had MS or worse.

My healthy, no underlying conditions teenager tested positive for covid last week. She's had it before and it's been just a cold/bad cold. This time she must have caught some awful varient or it just hit her wrong but i have never seen her so ill. Its progressed into a lung infection and a few days ago she was borderline for needing oxygen as her sats kept dropping to low 90s. Thankfully shes (slowly) recovering, but it scared us all

I am so sorry to hear this Sumerian, your poor daughter. I am most definitely having a pity party here, it has mucked all sorts being off work etc. Thank you for posting, as you are highlighting exactly why I need to pull my big girl pants on and stop moaning. I have been a big proponent of following the science, getting the boosters and keeping transmission rates down. I will remain so.

Like childbirth by this time next year I will have forgotten how rough I feel now and will roll up my sleeves for the next booster.

I think people really need to stop getting this unnecessary jab now.

It’s not unnecessary, especially if you’re in a vulnerable category! I’ve got covid at the moment and it’s been much less awful than the first time I had it- I had my booster last month, and I’m so grateful for it.

OtherS · 29/11/2023 13:56

Had mine Monday and bit feverish that night, but nothing like as bad as it's been in the past. However, had real trouble sleeping and felt absolutely awful yesterday with pounding head and aches - like a really severe hangover, though I'd not had anything at all to drink. Spent the day on the sofa and feel better today though injection site still sore. I also have a horrid cold that keeps coming and going but I definitely had that before the jab, I did test for covid and clear. Not the worst reaction I've had, I have learnt to not plan anything for the day after. It's still probably better than catching covid - the reasonably mild cold caused me a lot more discomfort as it dragged on ages and kept waking me up to cough, so even if new covid is only the same as that I'll merrily suffer 24 hours of misery to avoid it!

IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism · 29/11/2023 13:57

There are two things here though. The vaccine reaction, which is a normal reaction (albeit unpleasant), and the onset of whatever virus you have.

I really do not understand these “Oh I had a horrible reaction to the vaccine and then when I got Covid it was no worse than a bad cold” people.

Yes.
That’s the whole point.

Imagine how much worse it could have been if you had not already been primed with antibodies, like it was for Sumerian’s daughter.

flowerygloves · 29/11/2023 13:58

Maybe you caught covid?

Sounds like my 3 jabs. Second was the worst. Can't remember the last time I felt so rubbish. Especially the second one with fever up and down sweating and freezing was terrible. Thank goodness for wfh.

I was told that the second contact with the virus (so for me who had already had covid the first jab. For those who did not the second jab) would generally be the worst.

That was definitely true in my case and for most people I talked to.

tenpoundpombear · 29/11/2023 14:12

I felt worse after my Covid booster than I have any of the 3 times (at least) I've had Covid.

Willyoujustbequiet · 29/11/2023 14:12

Flossflower · 29/11/2023 12:54

But you know that is wasn’t the jab that made you ill.

I'm not an anti vaxxer but it's been proven that covid jabs have killed people. Rare but it's definitely happened.

My son aged 15 at the time got pericarditis after his second jab and has been advised to have no more. I am not an anti-vaxxer but I get very frustrated with people claiming it's all tin foil hatted nutters claiming that they had a vaccine reaction. It's easy to sneer until the incredibly rare reaction happens to someone you love.

Deathwillbebutapause · 29/11/2023 14:15

Both my husband and I reacted so badly to the second jab (from different companies) that we both declined any boosters.

I had had no family history of heart problems and had never had so much as a flutter in my life before.

SarahShorty · 29/11/2023 14:17

Both myself and my DH regret getting the jabs. We had three, ie main two and a booster. I can't believe we were so weak to be guilted into it as we were. Oh well. We got them and we suck, no point dwelling on it.

Castlerock44 · 29/11/2023 14:23

I've had covid twice. Nowhere near as ill as I was after the vaccine. Won't have any more. Doesn't offer much protection really.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 29/11/2023 14:24

AyrshireTryer · 29/11/2023 13:19

As someone who lost people to Covid. I continue to have the jab.

As someone who didn't lose anyone to covid I will also continue to have the jab, even if it makes me feel rough for a few days. I'm so grateful for it and that I didn't suffer the losses you did.

Mumof2teens79 · 29/11/2023 14:30

I have never reacted to the covid jab
You may just have another virus
