To have only bought for him

My adult son lives with his girlfriend of 5 years and her two children, 10 and 7. I went round earlier to drop off an advent calendar for my son. I felt it was a little frosty. Was I unreasonable to have only bought for him?

I feel that it is odd to buy for your adult son and not the kids tbh.

Caffeineneedednow · 28/11/2023 19:53

Yeah it's weird to buy something like that for an adult but not his family.

There a couple if quid at easter make sure the eggs go for all of them not just your son Dido next year.

WeeOrcadian · 28/11/2023 19:54

Yes. Very.

Don't be an arsehole.

nokidshere · 28/11/2023 19:56

Yes definitely more than a 'bit off'. Why on earth would you do that?

I've just posted one to my adult Son in London (family tradition lol) and put in two more for his flat mates in case their mums don't send them one 😁

TheChosenTwo · 28/11/2023 19:56

What kind of advent calendar was it?
If it’s one that’s more like a present in itself (I don’t know, like a wine one for example) then I guess it’s self explanatory why you only had one.
If it was a bog standard supermarket one then it’s off for various reasons.
1, he’s an adult and could probably buy one himself if he wanted one
2, do adults have chocolate advent calendars?
3, for a tenner you could have got one for all of them and as chocolate advent calendars are quite kiddish I don’t know why you wouldn’t have just picked them all up one anyway.

Lammveg · 28/11/2023 19:56

Is this a reverse lol

Namerequired · 28/11/2023 19:57

No, he’s your son. It’s up to them to buy for the kids. It’s only an advent calendar
I also think this is a reverse.

QueSyrahSyrah · 28/11/2023 19:57

I'd go so far to say it's extraordinarily weird to buy one for one adult in the house but not the other adult or more importantly the children. They're what, £2 each?

If you're pushed for money then better not to buy at all than just for one of a household.

Onelifeonly · 28/11/2023 19:58

I'd probably have only bought for the kids. Why do adults need advent calendars bought for them?

Doggymummar · 28/11/2023 19:58

Nothing for the grandchildren? That's not on.

Love this!!

CalistoNoSolo · 28/11/2023 19:58

No, absolutely not being U to buy something for your son.

SussexLass87 · 28/11/2023 19:59

The question is why wouldn't you buy an advent calendar for the children?

BaronessBomburst · 28/11/2023 19:59

I call reverse.
What a nasty, petty-minded thing to do.

Fannyfiggs · 28/11/2023 20:00

I think you should have gotten the kids one each rather than one for your adult DS. Or if you could stretch it to four so his partner got one too.

I would think that was very weird if I were your DS's partner.

wineosaurus4 · 28/11/2023 20:00

You must be joking Blush If this is true then how mean are you!

My old housemate’s mum used to do this. 10 years on, I still love her for it.

avocadotofu · 28/11/2023 20:03

MrsFawkes · 28/11/2023 20:04

What adult wants an advent calendar from Mummy? Cringe.

Perhaps it’s a family tradition but how mean to leave two innocent kids out if it.
Regardless of their (non) relationship to you, how could you do that?

Dartmoorcheffy · 28/11/2023 20:05

Weird.

Dartmoorcheffy · 28/11/2023 20:06

I'd love to hear how the voters who's say yanbu can justify that too

Meowandthen · 28/11/2023 20:08

That is odd. Why aren’t you kind to these children?

TomatoSandwiches · 28/11/2023 20:10

You should have bought an advent for a 2 and one each for the children.
YABU and mean spirited.

BakedTattie · 28/11/2023 20:10

😂😂😂😂

seriously?!

SussexLass87 · 28/11/2023 20:10

So many strange threads tonight. What is going on?
