Botox in the School Raffle?!

Bartlebum · 27/11/2023 14:08

One of the prizes in the kids primary school raffle is a voucher for 50% off Botox! I am interested to know your opinions and if this an appropriate prize for a raffle (not mentioning it's a rubbish prize as it's only half the cost!)

Can't get too worked up about it. Someone will have contacted a load of companies asking them to donate prizes and a it's been donated as it's unlikely to be used.

Skintdancemum · 27/11/2023 14:15

That’s an amazing prize!

Christmasapple · 27/11/2023 14:15

Perhaps it’s indicative of the area our school is in but we frequently have vouchers for a tattoo. I’d much prefer the Botox!

Bartlebum · 27/11/2023 14:16

@PlantPlug I am not worked up, I just found it weird! You're right though, the person probably doesn't think it will be used, and if it is then it will get them a new customer.

That's quite a niche prize! Surely most people don't use botox?!

Skintdancemum · 27/11/2023 14:18

@KvotheTheBloodless i would have thought the opposite, that most people of a certain age do use it!

Tempnamechng · 27/11/2023 14:19

Agree with others, its a donated prize. If you win it you could trade it (ask for PMs on the school WhatsApp group) or even ask the salon to consider a switch for another product service. The switch is a bit cf, but I donated a service for a school raffle and the winner didn't want what they had won, so I agreed on a product instead as goodwill.

justalittlesnoel · 27/11/2023 14:19

That's a fantastic prize! High value too.

Tempnamechng · 27/11/2023 14:20

@Skintdancemum I only know a couple of people who have had it done, I think most people have never had botox.

PuttingDownRoots · 27/11/2023 14:20

Theres vouchers for a tanning salon in ours.

And randomly... a free day at a local nursery. How many people can actually use that?

Needmorelego · 27/11/2023 14:21

Yeah it will probably have been donated by a local company or a parent does it as their job and has donated it.
My daughter's primary was always like this. Vouchers for half price local restaurants/hair salons/beauty places etc.
Even half price I couldn't have afforded them so I never bought a raffle ticket. I suggested more modest prizes one year - but it didn't happen.

ha same. LOTS of people use it, but not everyone talks about it. At least in my friendship group anyway.

I'd be up for this prize! You can always trade/gift it if you don't use it.

MarathonBarbie · 27/11/2023 14:22

It’s a bit rubbish to win a prize that doesn’t cover the full cost of the item/service unless it happens to be something you’d pay for anyway.

Bartlebum · 27/11/2023 14:25

I won a voucher for a round of gold last year which needed some high handicap to be able to play, so I guess it's the equivalent - a high value prize that's useless to some people. I think it was because my 7 year old daughter bought the tickets and wouldn't know what Botox is!

OP posts:
Lentilweaver · 27/11/2023 14:25

well, I would return it if I won. I think it's odd.

You must mix in circles that are not worried about cost of living. I don't know anyone who's used it

Strawberryfieldsforeverrr · 27/11/2023 14:26

We have a few aesthetic practitioner mothers who donate treatments / vouchers, botox included. I don't see it as any different to a game of mini golf or whatever, if you don't want it then pass it on. About 20% of women I know who are 45+ are having botox so it's not niche or obscure.

BarbaraofSeville · 27/11/2023 14:26

A prize that requires you to spend (a lot of!) money is not a prize.

Let me guess, the person who has donated this owns a botox clinic so will be doing the treatment themselves, so it's not quite as generous as it might appear, especially if they're hoping to do it in the new year, which is probably a quiet time for them.

Whatever happened to people donating bottles of wine, toiletries or candles that they have leftover from last Christmas?

Cas112 · 27/11/2023 14:27

Its so common to have services as raffle prizes nowadays OP

Couldn't be worked up over this tbh

Bartlebum · 27/11/2023 14:28

The donator is a mum at the school that offers Botox.

OP posts:
Needmorelego · 27/11/2023 14:29

@BarbaraofSeville yes I was a much bigger fan of the "childrens" (ie non alcoholic) bottle tombola. You'd win bubble bath or bottles of squash. Much more fun.

TheGoogleMum · 27/11/2023 14:30

It is a bit of an odd prize. Having to pay half is still annoying unless you get botox anyway. Having said that, I've never had botox but I heard some people say it helps with migraines so I'd actually consider it for that reason at half price!

Scruffington · 27/11/2023 14:30

It's the kind of thing I can imagine Amanda from Motherland donating and then making some withering comment like 'because you just look soooo tired, Juuuuulia'.

Satsscores · 27/11/2023 14:30

Where do you live? I'd say most people DO use Botox, but I wish I lived in an area where it hadn't become the norm so I don't feel wrinkly for not using it.
