Botox in the School Raffle?!

Bartlebum · 27/11/2023 14:08

One of the prizes in the kids primary school raffle is a voucher for 50% off Botox! I am interested to know your opinions and if this an appropriate prize for a raffle (not mentioning it's a rubbish prize as it's only half the cost!)

OP posts:
Gingerlygreen · 27/11/2023 14:31

I think prizes of money off vouchers are rubbish no matter what the product or service is.

SoulCaptain · 27/11/2023 14:31

It's a regulated medicine, I don't see how this can be legal

Where do you live? I'd say most people DO use Botox, but I wish I lived in an area where it hadn't become the norm so I don't feel wrinkly for not using it.

I live in central London and don't know anyone who uses it. I know posters will say they use it and don't admit to it, but I don;t think so because most of my friends are mid 50s and just as wrinkly as they always were.

Finteq · 27/11/2023 14:33

It's a crap prize.

It's like the bottles wine- when you don't drink.

Or a those special days. But the days you can go are very limited and will get out of date before you can use it.

Would much rather have family day out passes somewhere local.

A meal somewhere local.

Or small bits of food. That anyone could eat.

The donator is a mum at the school that offers Botox.

That happens at DD3's school - lots of the parents who have their own businesses get very competitive at giving the best raffle prize.

One who has a salon now offers a free full cut, colour and blow dry at every school events and then moans furiously for ages if anyone actually dares use the voucher!

Lentilweaver · 27/11/2023 14:36

At least one can regift a bottle of wine.

jolaylasofia · 27/11/2023 14:37

virtually everyone i know uses it apart from me and that price is with 100-150 pounds! great prize imo

Justanothermanicfunday · 27/11/2023 14:37

Haha love that!

well it's half price off a treatment not an actual bottle of botox

VenusClapTrap · 27/11/2023 14:38

Fairly standard prize. There’ll have been a round robin sent round asking local businesses and parents to donate what they can. Someone either owns the business or knows the person who does and asked for a favour. If you win it and don’t want it, hand it back. Or as a pp said, ask if there’s an alternative prize, although it is a bit cheeky. At the end of the day, someone has offered this; they didn’t have to, so don’t be snarky about it.

I’m a holiday cat sitter and I donated a week’s cat sitting in the past. The first winner complained about the prize as they didn’t have a cat and felt short changed 🙄. The second winner asked me if I’d walk their dog instead (I said no; I don’t know anything about dog care). I didn’t bother donating the next time I was asked.

idontlikealdi · 27/11/2023 14:39

Most people in my friendship group (including some of the men) have Botox.

Our school fayre yesterday had tanning vouchers, eyebrow tints, Restaurant vouchers, hampers, afternoon tea, a deliveroo voucher, voucher for the local coatcutter, a babysitting voucher, a football taster session, a pt session amongst others.

I don't think it's weird.

IsGoodIsDon · 27/11/2023 14:40

I once won a photographer sitting at our school raffle. The cheapest photo package to buy was £60 so if I used the prize it would actually cost me money. These are rubbish so called prizes and would think the Botox even more so.

You are correct and this is very unethical.

EtiennePalmiere · 27/11/2023 14:42

That's hilarious ! The world we live in now

OlderandwiserMaybe · 27/11/2023 14:42

I think any prize that could involve you spending money on top is rubbish TBH.

If I won it - I wouldn't use it or re-gift it I'd just throw it in bin and secretly feel a bit miffed. I wouldn't of been able to use the cat sitting voucher either.

Generally crap prizes arent they? What wrong with donating a bottle of wine?

PossumintheHouse · 27/11/2023 14:43

Somebody will have contacted all of the local businesses in the area on the scrounge for donated raffle prizes. It’s quite a generous prize from the local aesthetics clinic/beauty salon for the right person, seeing as Botox generally goes for between £150 and £300 nowadays. I suppose you could always sell it on to one of the glamour mums at the back of the playground.

Finteq · 27/11/2023 14:44

Cas112 · 27/11/2023 14:27

Its so common to have services as raffle prizes nowadays OP

Couldn't be worked up over this tbh

I don't like services as raffle prozes.

Much better to give something that someone can take home at the end of the raffle.

Makes me less likely to purchase tickets.

Would rather win a box of chocolates to be honest.

Whalewatchers · 27/11/2023 14:45

The title of the thread made me LOL.

Odd to me but I'm going to grow old as nature intended.

Siha345 · 27/11/2023 14:49

It’s a weird prize. I have had Botox and stopped because of the cost so I’d like 50% off but you have to really trust the person doing it. Offering such a high discount wouldn’t convince me that they are in high demand. At least that’s a prize I could give to a friend or something, unlike a round of bloody golf 😅

5128gap · 27/11/2023 14:50

Its rubbish because its only 50% off so isn't a donation but a marketing ploy. As a prize its no odder or more inappropriate than bottles of alcohol. Loved by some, disliked and judged by others.

ibblebibbledibble · 27/11/2023 14:52

I would love that prize!

kombuchakween · 27/11/2023 14:53

Money off isn't a prize. I think its gross AF but seems to be becoming normalised.

piperpheobepruepaige · 27/11/2023 14:54

Skintdancemum · 27/11/2023 14:15

That’s an amazing prize!

Is it?

Surely only if you want to have botox - its hardly a week all inclusive in the Seychelles

MereDintofPandiculation · 27/11/2023 14:57

Christmasapple · 27/11/2023 14:15

Perhaps it’s indicative of the area our school is in but we frequently have vouchers for a tattoo. I’d much prefer the Botox!

Wrong post quoted

Skintdancemum · 27/11/2023 14:18

@KvotheTheBloodless i would have thought the opposite, that most people of a certain age do use it!

Which age are you thinking of?
