Botox in the School Raffle?!

Bartlebum · 27/11/2023 14:08

One of the prizes in the kids primary school raffle is a voucher for 50% off Botox! I am interested to know your opinions and if this an appropriate prize for a raffle (not mentioning it's a rubbish prize as it's only half the cost!)

But it's a school fundraiser. The majority of people aren't tee totallers with eczema and a dairy intolerance. On the contrary, the majority of people don't have botox.

Hobbesmanc · 27/11/2023 18:05

I think there's a lot more people having Botox than you might think. I'm sure it's probably illegal or at least unethical but Botox parties are pretty popular and even women barely in their twenties are having it

I guess in some areas is like having a fake tan or eye brow threading.

Legendairy · 27/11/2023 18:08

Great prize, loads of people have botox, from their 20s upwards, I imagine it would he happily received. You'd think that they would give 1 free treatment though as someone is likely to do it once then keep going back. If its just 50% they may not bother.

Legendairy · 27/11/2023 18:10

TravelInHope · 27/11/2023 15:23

Really?

I wouldn't say most people but it's certainly not uncommon, amongst my closest friends 3 out of the 6 in our group have botox. Age range from early 40s to 60. We aren't posh/rich/middle class or anything.

DaisyDoor · 27/11/2023 18:11

Any prize that’s just money off isn’t really a prize at all, what a swizz.

avocadotofu · 27/11/2023 18:15

Skintdancemum · 27/11/2023 14:18

@KvotheTheBloodless i would have thought the opposite, that most people of a certain age do use it!

I was also thinking this!

ReadyForPumpkins · 27/11/2023 18:19

I got a month gym membership last year and I never used it. I don’t begrudge it though. This is the same kind of thing. Useful for some and useless for others.

sandletown · 27/11/2023 18:29

I'll buy a ticket

Needmorelego · 27/11/2023 18:32

This is just another thing though that seems to be such a waste of people's time. Or rather the PTA people's time.
Someone has to source the prizes - contacting local companies and businesses. That's a very time consuming task.
Someone has to sell and sort the tickets. Again very time consuming.
Then you have the picking the tickets out and people claiming the prizes. At my daughter's primary Christmas fair that used to take about an hour. It was so boring.
Then you have someone who has to contact all those whose ticket was picked but they weren't there to claim the price. Find out how you can get the prize to them. Meet at the gate? Collect from the school office? Leave with the teacher of the winners child to pass on?
And then after all that half the prizes probably never actually get used.
It's all a bit hilarious really.

cakewench · 27/11/2023 18:44

Pretty standard. We don't get that one loads but we often have some niche skin microabrasion thing (I might not even be saying it correctly tbh!) because some of our parents run a clinic. It's kind of them to offer a prize and it might get them a new client, so it's win-win.

jolaylasofia · 27/11/2023 19:17

OhpoorMe · 27/11/2023 15:17

Most people DO NOT use it. There's only 1m sessions a year, so if you divide that by two sessions a year, that's 500000 people a year in the UK. For comparison, the female population of 30-50 is 17.5million people, so that's what, less than 3% of middle aged women. And actually when you consider how many have it outside of that age group, or men etc, it's much lower!

Awaits someone telling me my maths is wrong :D

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/sep/28/why-has-britain-fallen-in-love-with-botox-there-is-only-one-way-to-find-out-

the estimate in 2021 was 900k... that's not only very outdated as trends change so rapidly but also would only account for registered practitioners and not these dodgy salons where someone does a 2 day course and then starts jabbing young girls here there and everywhere

DonnaBanana · 27/11/2023 19:23

When you take into account the cozzy livs right now you should be grateful for whatever raffle prizes get donated to be honest

Parker231 · 27/11/2023 19:24

It’s not a prize if you then have to spend money. I don’t know anyone who has had, or wants to have Botox.

OhpoorMe · 27/11/2023 19:29

I really wouldn't call two years ago 'very outdated'. There's nothing to suggest Botox is a lot more popular now than in 2021 is there?

Pixie2015 · 27/11/2023 19:32

I think a money off voucher is not really a prize as will cost the winner money - they should have offered half the amount of injection or one side of the face only voucher instead

EasterMummie · 27/11/2023 19:37

I wonder if they would let you get half the amount of botox done instead? 🤨

IAmAnIdiot123 · 27/11/2023 20:06

Tempnamechng · 27/11/2023 14:20

@Skintdancemum I only know a couple of people who have had it done, I think most people have never had botox.

I know loads of people who have it and most of them I wouldn't have had a clue about if they hadn't told me when I was thinking about getting it.

Missingmyusername · 27/11/2023 20:09

MarathonBarbie · 27/11/2023 14:22

It’s a bit rubbish to win a prize that doesn’t cover the full cost of the item/service unless it happens to be something you’d pay for anyway.

Agree with this. Even if you do use it, you likely have someone you trust? So would have to go somewhere new….

Equimum · 27/11/2023 20:26

Well, someone in our class WhatsApp asked how many mums would be interested in setting up a regular Botox party, so I guess this isn't far different. Sadly, I think Botox has become quite normal round here, and as others have said, people don't view it any differently to facials or tans.

NewJobNewMeNewLife · 27/11/2023 20:27

I have Botox and think it’s a rubbish prize! First of all I don’t think Botox should be promoted this way (my daughter who is 16 and gorgeous is already wanting lip fillers)
Secondly surely this isn’t a way to choose a practitioner (I use my dentist friend) and detracts from all the work you should do finding someone reputable, insured etc.
and finally I don’t think a discount is a prize and have never seen this in many years of school, dance class, football team raffles. A prize is something given away surely- not something that requires additional spend?

Intelligenthair · 27/11/2023 20:28

Where do you live and how much are tickets? 😁

Are our DC at the same primary school??
👀👀

StarDolphins · 27/11/2023 20:39

I think it’s a bit yuck. Plus my DD loves prizes so if I won it, it would be “what did you win Mummy” - then what? I’d have to say it’s for ladies who don’t want to look older? I don’t want her to think that’s ok, I spend my life encouraging her to celebrate being unique & accept ourselves.

@VioletBeauregardeTheFirst I doubt it, based on this thread it seems like a normal raffle prize these days! I'm clearly out of touch (and very wrinkly!)
