Botox in the School Raffle?!

One of the prizes in the kids primary school raffle is a voucher for 50% off Botox! I am interested to know your opinions and if this an appropriate prize for a raffle (not mentioning it's a rubbish prize as it's only half the cost!)

I don’t think it’s a good prize and I have Botox. No way would I go to some random Mum from school offering it for half price. She might be terrible! Not the way to go about it.

LivFG · 27/11/2023 20:59

Totally inappropriate! I would not be participating if a raffle was being lowered to this level.

I organise our PTA Christmas raffle (currently am) & we've never been offered a prize like that. It's not really a thing around here (rural SW), but tbh when asking for prizes beggars can't be choosers so to speak. We've had some interesting prizes in the past but mostly aim for vouchers, products or attraction tickets.

the estimate in 2021 was 900k... that's not only very outdated as trends change so rapidly

I really wouldn't call two years ago 'very outdated'. There's nothing to suggest Botox is a lot more popular now than in 2021 is there?

It's way more popular! fashions change rapidly. This is not a study on medicine, it's a trend. Besides 2021 was covid year the whole world has changed.

Yes, I assume 2021 stats might not be very useful or informative because there were lockdowns I think that year? So people wouldn’t have been able to go and have the treatment at all for some of the time. And even when they could, lots of people were still working from home more than usual/social events were curtailed so even those who love their Botox might have skipped a treatment or two as they’d have been spending more time at home.

I agree.

And I don't much like alcohol being given as a prize either (especially at a primary school).

It's a long time since I was on a PTA but I believe that you are not allowed to offer raffle prizes that "winners" have to spend money to claim, so 50% off anything is possibly illegal. See also free photo sessions.

And in addition, as PP have said, you can't raffle medicines. It won't be a health care professional doing this.

That said, a lot of Botox is offered by beauticians is uncontrolled, and I don't see promised legislation to change that, this side of an election.

Indeed. Even if it was someone legally permitted to prescribe making the donation it would still be illegal to advertise it. I think the PTA and the beautician are both breaking the law here.

Typical school raffle price around here. As previously said, someone's mum will do it in her garage.
I would say, from experience, the average age of botox users is not 50+ but much younger, mid to late 20s. Very sad
