7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

You said it. Odd beyond odd.

Very peculiar indeed

Ifeelsuchafool · 26/11/2023 22:54

Don't ever come to my home town! I can't think of one establishment apart from the Indian that doesn't allow dogs! 🤣

No one thinks dogs are more important than people. No one on this thread has stated that dogs are more important than people. Not one single poster.

How many times/ways does this need to be explained? It is not about people hating non-dog owners. It is not being done to spite people who do not like dogs. It's about profit.

It's business. Plain and simple. Business owners noticed a demand for dog-friendly spaces and supplied them. It's not complex. I don't know much about business but even I understand the basic principle of supply and demand.

If there are no dog-free spaces in your locale it is because there is no demand. If you think that is not correct, brilliant, you've identified a demand. Open your own dog-free space and supply.

In the meantime, someone taking their dog into a dog-friendly space is not entitled or selfish. Someone wanting businesses to ban dogs at the expense of their profit margins and the staff they employ to suit a minority is entitled.

Whatever

Not a dog hater i love dogs but in a confined space 7 is about 3 too many

Hydrangeasneedtrimming · 26/11/2023 23:14

Yuk really cannot abide any animal haters! A dog ! REALLY?? Honestly they are cleaner than some human beings! BORE OFF!

Of course every dog in every cafe may not be well trained but it's not going to poo or wee...

Eh? How did you reach that conclusion? There are a couple of posters on this thread alone who have seen dogs wee or poo in a cafe. Extrapolate that out ...

A woman who picks her child up from the same school as my son admitted that her dog had done a poo in a kitchenware shop they were in. It does happen. It's almost inevitable that there will be 'accidents' tbh.

Some kids poo / pee / puke in shops too. Should we ban them too?

Soerdu · 26/11/2023 23:22

This reply is wonderful 😊

I’ll not even mention the dog shit left outside the lift on the fifth floor of my urban apartment block. A block where dogs aren’t even allowed and yet someone thinks it’s ok for them to not only shit but to leave it there.

and yet dog owners still take this moral high ground about how lovely dogs are. Irrelevant when their owners aren’t.

Wow, what a novel and mature response. We've all been waiting for such wise words.

(Yes, it's irony)

Clearly, but enough to cause issues.

SpudleyLass · 26/11/2023 23:27

Missing the point for a second, but let me be the first to say that having worked retail for a few years, adults are actually far more poorly behaved than children. It's not even close.

Now I've got that out, YANBU. With the obvious exception of assistance dogs, they really have no place in places that serve food and drink. Or any shop, really.

I grew up with dogs, I like dogs. But we kept them home. We walked them twice a day, never tied them up outside shops - simply did our shopping separately.

I'd be interested as to why the massive shift in attitude in these few short years.

T1Dmama · 26/11/2023 23:37

I have 2 dogs and actually disagree with them suddenly being everywhere. I’m allergic to dogs (except poodle type breeds), so if I went into a
cafe with 7 dogs I’d also walk out .
The only cafes I’ve taken mine to have been ones where I’ve sat outside with them. I believe costa coffee allow
them in while you queue but not not after. BuT I agree dogs should be fine left home for a few hours as long as they’re walked first.

Hydrangeasneedtrimming · 26/11/2023 23:39

You're very welcome.

No.

choc1cheese1 · 26/11/2023 23:50

Good answer! 🙂🐶

Pingu32 · 26/11/2023 23:53

Many humans are less hygienic than dogs. Yes, separation anxiety is a huge issue - a lot of dogs obtained during lockdown had full time company and that has changed for many. I don't take my dog out for coffee - because I can't afford it. I get why it costs that much and I get why cafe owners allow dogs in - what I don't get is how so many people can afford it.

Pingu32 · 26/11/2023 23:57

Best entry on this thread - not emotive, just logical 😉

choc1cheese1 · 27/11/2023 00:05

@Deliadidit so out for a day, which includes a dog walk, not unreasonable to go into a dog friendly cafe/pub for refreshments, having trained dog to settle down, more than can be said for some parents!!

Happylady56 · 27/11/2023 00:06

I’m so sorry have all allergies it’s not fun. The worlds is a smaller place, too many people and more choices for the consumer. Competition between businesses is fact so aloof businesses give the client more choices .

choc1cheese1 · 27/11/2023 01:01

@lesdeluges, good luck with that, very inclusive….not!!

choc1cheese1 · 27/11/2023 01:14

@Whiteday, lol, woof woof!! 🐶🤣

choc1cheese1 · 27/11/2023 01:32

@Tooshytoshine , I love this post, it’s so true. I have a beagle collie cross who can be boisterous but adores people, good with other dogs and loves attention from small children and old people. I work in care & support and he’s a real hit in care homes!! 🐶😍

BitOutOfPractice · 27/11/2023 02:52

@SamphireAndSalmon but enough of them

twinklystar23 · 27/11/2023 06:28

I don't mind dogs but a colleague brought their dog to work. It was incredibly irritating as it kept coming over to me sniffing my bag etc
Told it to stop and "off you go" owner called it away, though again was surprised at the level of entitlement I. There to do my job not to have to deal with someone's mutt

The more dogs the better. They are mostly better than people imo.

100% agree.
