7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

But their owners are and we spend it on places that allow our dogs in.

And those of us who’d rather not have dog hair in our latte vote with our feet

TrishIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/11/2023 16:23

Even if you love dogs in cafes surely this a H&S issue? I’ve seen a waitress go flying because a Yorkie ran out from under a table whilst still on its lead. I’d hate to be carrying hot coffee with my children in tow and 7 dogs around who are likely( considering how many bad dog owners there are these days) to not be well behaved

3 local cafes near me have signs up ‘dogs welcome, just not indoors’. All 3 have covered outdoor seating. Does not stop entitled arseholes bringing their dogs inside and castigating the staff who ask them to sit outside.

In the summer there was a thread about a child with ADHD being discriminated against in a cafe. 85% of the posts were in TOTAL uproar because the OP used ‘dog friendly cafe’ when the dogs could only go outside. People were a rurally furious with the OP about this 🤣🤣

nationallampoons · 26/11/2023 16:28

I work for Costa and we don't allow dogs, apart from service dogs. Thank god

I love dogs in cafes, pubs and restaurants. I especially love a cafe, pub or restaurant with a resident dog or cat.

I like strangers coming up and talking to me about my dog.

A woman today asked if she could stroke my super soft, very patient but quite large dog whilst we were waiting outside a shop and ended up giving her a bit of a hug. Afterwards, she said thank you and looked a bit sheepish saying it had been a hard time. We spoke for a few minutes, exchanged a few kind words and she said it had made her day a little better.

I regularly meet a widower who says his dog (a quite charmless terrier mix - beauty is in the eye of the beholder) saved his life. He said he used to go for walks but nobody spoke to him until he got a dog as men don't get chatted to unless they have a dog or a baby. He now regularly chats with other walkers and these acquaintances sustain him.

Times are hard, dogs often give us a reason to interact with strangers and share human connection. They mainly aren't vicious, slathering, disease ridden wretches trying to maul all passing toddlers - they are soft bellied family members who make some people's lives a little bit brighter.

Drink coffee in one of the hundreds of other cafes available and let the dog lovers live and chat to each other.

But the people who are frightened of or allergic to your dog are not going to come up to you with their grievance because, well, no one does that.

This is the attitude I can’t bear - that someone else’s dog is a gift to the world and anything other view is ‘hateful’

The more the better IMO.
Seven screaming, feral kids would be way too many though

Kids are humans. HTH.

Its quite unnerving when people hate kids as a class

Tbf with only central vision anything outside this area of vision is a prime candidate for me to fall over, including dogs

I'd rather a dog in a cafe than cats crapping all over my garden.

Do you expect them to use the toilet?

Or wear nappies? I have stray cats in my area. They aren’t doing any harm to me

snoopyfanaccountant · 25/11/2023 20:04

I'm allergic to dogs (sorry, it's not a choice I made). I rarely go out for a coffee and when I do I would like to do so in comfort; the last time I went out for coffee, I came out scratching because there had been dogs in the coffee shop.

How do you feel about the dog sycophants revelling in how their little Fido should have more rights than you?

TrishIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/11/2023 16:48

Also what’s with all the dog emojis? Are you 7 years old?

I don’t care about cat poo either. Even when 4 lived next door and I got loads in my garden. What can you do - they’re outdoor animals they have to go somewhere. My neighbour was very lovely and binged me a bottle of wine now and again for the inconvenience. She also told me to check it over the fence but I never could - if I’d already picked it up I may as well bin it rather than chuck it and risk hitting her sunbathing husband 😂

nationallampoons · 26/11/2023 16:51

Costa coffee do not allow dogs. It's not down to the managers either. It's a company wide ban unless it's somewhere like Lake Windermere.

I have a dog myself, but working for Costa we do get a bit of jip from dog walkers when we ask them to leave

Not all Starbucks allow dogs either

Much better than the amorous fox noises we’ll be getting during night hours soon… seriously, why do they sound like babies crying?

Who’s demanding more rights? Are we not just saying it’s ok to take dogs (Fidos to you) into places they’re allowed in.

I regularly see dogs in my local Costa (south coast)

This whole debate reminds me of my uncle complaining about children being allowed in pubs. He hated the change and no matter how much it was explained to him that pubs who didn’t adapt would risk going out of business, he still moaned!

Life marches on. Dogs are acceptable pretty much everywhere now.

If I'm out walking and I'm not near home i will Google dog friendly cafes near me.... and then I'll go with my dog, to a dog friendly cafe, where dogs are allowed. Sorry if any of that upsets you!

You're not sorry though.

newnamethanks · 26/11/2023 17:00

YABU for going to Starbucks.

nationallampoons · 26/11/2023 17:05

@Lindjam they're not supposed to let them in. Costa are pretty strict about it

greencheetah · 26/11/2023 17:11

I live in Hove. Local cafes, definitely including Costa, have loads of dogs. To be honest I just assume all shops, cafes etc are dog friendly nowadays.

If I accidentally took my dog somewhere that didn’t allow dogs, I would of course apologise and leave. I have never witnessed anyone arguing that their dog should be welcomed somewhere, but of course where I live it’s easy enough to go to the next cafe a few doors down and be served there.

TrishIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/11/2023 17:14

Standproperly · 25/11/2023 20:19

People can say similar about kids in public places too

@Standproperly its up to the manager if they want kids in their cafe - if you don’t like it go somewhere else.
Right?

TrishIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/11/2023 17:14

And I’ve never had a kid stick it’s nose in my crotch as the latent smugly sits by like I’m supposed to be enjoying it

Standproperly · 25/11/2023 20:24

we love our dogs so what is so hard to understand that they are often out with us?

Because it’s inconsiderate as fuck when you can leave them at home
