7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

Tell us where. There is no escape from them.

Costa

If you don’t like dogs or dogs being inside cafes then just leave and go somewhere else. It’s not really an issue.

Doesn't really work if it is becoming the norm..!

It's bizarre that so many places serving food allow it tbh.

Tatumm · 26/11/2023 08:19

Yes, it’s revolting and should be banned. It’s very backward. I won’t spend my money anywhere that admits dogs.

Actually it’s the opposite of “backward”

PP have explained the huge increase in the number of dogs in the UK. There has been societal change in that dogs are considered part of the family and are very highly valued in emotional and financial terms.

Society moves forward apace and it’s pointless to wail about “in my day…” Children used to sit outside pubs with a coke and a packet of crisps. It’s a similar change with dogs.

You don’t have to like it, and you absolutely do not have to go in cafes any more if you can’t accept the change, but economic and societal factors will outweigh your concerns.

Costa

No Costa remotely near where I live.
A few small cafes, pretty much all dog allowing.

Pathetic

To be fair, many people are happy to eat other cute/intelligent animals such as rabbits, horses and pigs.

PomsRun · 26/11/2023 08:56

Completely off topic - but DH has just noticed people have put their dog poo bag in our bin - our bin is near the path but clearly not a poo bin ! It’s really revolting behaviour.

At least it's not piles of fresh poop just outside the gate like we often get.....minging lazy sods!

Shittyflute · 25/11/2023 22:04

Would you take your cat, hamster, rat, snake or horse into Starbucks?

Should be alright I reckon, as long as they're trained😆 I'd love to bring a horse in and see what happened - just a small, well behaved horse, mind. It could have a horsachino up at the table and do a nice big dump in the aisle on the way out.

The cafe could flog the manure for fertiliser along with the used coffee grounds.

Southwest12 · 26/11/2023 09:57

There were six dogs in Cafe Nero last time I was in, not that you'd have noticed as they were all sat very quietly under the tables.

I'm going out for Sunday lunch today and my dog is coming with me. We're going to a very dog friendly cafe, where it's very clear from their social media, and a sign on the front door, that dogs are allowed. Most places round here let dogs in, I think it's only Costa that doesn't.

ZiriForGood · 26/11/2023 10:09

Sholkedabemus · 26/11/2023 06:18

What mythical creature lives under a bridge?
Trolls. Trolls originate from Norse folklore they are fierce creatures who live under bridges.

Ok, clear now. At 5am I was focused on the idea of general homeless people - who often have dogs, so it just didn't make sense.

Anyway, I don't think it is trolling. There are more dogs than ever around, and it comes with significantly more bad dog owners. It is only logical that more people who were indifferent to dogs in the past are annoyed with them now.

The solution is you go somewhere else, you have far far more choice where to eat and drink than a non dog owner, so just go to another establishment, if I see dogs in a cafe it makes me want to go in, love dogs.

Not if you use a wheelchair

Dweetfidilove · 26/11/2023 10:13

Are dogs allowed in Starbucks now 🫣?

At this rate I’ll have nowhere to go soon 😭.

No it is backward. The so called societal change you speak of is a minority of selfish dog owners, who instead of changing their lifestyles to accommodate their pet, are seeking to impose on others, and some food outlets take advantage of this to make money.

UK dog owners are responsible collectively for emissions equivalent to burning down a forest twice the size of Wales every single year. A nice legacy for the grand kids 🙄

It’s less inclusive, it excludes people with allergies, with cultural prohibitions around dogs, people wary of dog aggression, get in the way of buggies and wheelchairs. Distracts service dogs who are there to work. And it’s unhygienic. People matter more than animals.

It is not really progressive as it isn't an inclusive approach to hospitality, i.e if you are allergic, tough shit! I am in a city and tried to go for a drink in a pub on a Saturday early evening, I had to leave 4 of them and only got a drink by sitting outside in November in the end! I like some dogs but I don't fancy a massive asthma attack and losing my life over them. One pub my DH said to the bar man, "there are more dogs than people in here." I'm unsure which pub we can go to anymore that's nearby.

SerendipityJane · 26/11/2023 10:33

I know I bore - accessibility for the disabled is boring. But once again, flooding accessible premises with dogs merely serves as another barrier to the disabled in modern society. And that's a measure that has been going backwards for 30 years.

Sholkedabemus · 26/11/2023 01:00

Hygiene? We shower, we wash our hands, we clean our house, we keep our dog clean.

oh umm, what’s your point about hygiene?

Presumably you don't park your unwashed arse directly on to the floor of a food and drink establishment just after you've taken a dump. But hey, I don't know you, so who can say?

Agreed.
So many dog owners just don't see the bigger picture.
Easier for them? Yes.
Harder for others, including more vulnerable folk? Also yes.
Thank you to the dog owners who do understand the responsibilities associated with dog ownership.

Whiteday · 26/11/2023 10:49

@TurquoiseHexagonSun do you eat off the floor in an establishment then? Wherever I go they provide tables, crockery and cutlery, that includes Starbucks.

Shittyflute · 26/11/2023 10:50

Why are the frothing rabid dog haters blaming the dogs and owners and not the owner of the establishment that ALLOWS THE DOGS INSIDE! 😂

I am neither 'frothing' nor 'rabid', nor am I a dog hater. But I still don't like them in the place where I'm eating or drinking, especially the place where I am paying for the privilege. As for the question about the coffee shop owners who let dogs in, of course I'm pissed off at them. But they are trying to run a profitable business based on the expectations of customers and these days it's the people who shout loudest about their rights and entitlements who win the day, not the people who open the door, see something they don't like, and leave.

Oh ... and there's no need to SHOUT.

If you think it's OK for an eating establishment to potentially have dog shit on the floor just because people don't eat off the floor, you might want to think about raising your standards just a tad.

Berlincafe · 26/11/2023 10:52

Currently sitting in a cafe in Berlin, they have a few birds flying freely.

Love it!

Whieday · 26/11/2023 10:55

@TurquoiseHexagonSun I go into cafes that are dog friendly all the time!! Every single week and more often.

I have high standards, just not a paranoid person.

You might think k about what else might be in the floor......

How many people do you know that have been sick from going into a dog friendly cafe 🤔?
