7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

Would you take your cat, hamster, rat, snake or horse into Starbucks?
That would be frowned upon
So why is it acceptable to take dogs in. Dogs lick their arses. Filthy creatures. Then taking them to places where others eat.
It really is gross and selfish

Tell us where. There is no escape from them.

There is no escape. I saw a dog urinating in the home furnishing area of John Lewis the other day (owner was oblivious). No idea when they started to allow dogs, but apparently that’s now a thing…

PrueRamsay · 25/11/2023 21:59

Well dogs are widely allowed now because businesses can make lots of £££ from their owners if they allow them in.

I guess if you don’t like it, you try to find somewhere that doesn’t allow dogs, but you would struggle to find any cafes or pubs with a zero dog policy where I live.

XenoBitch · 25/11/2023 22:00

YABU, if an establishment allows dogs then the owners are doing nothing wrong by being there.

Think I’d disagree that most people are ambivalent about dogs. I know quite a lot of people who dislike dogs in cafes.

Dogs are great but can be smelly and unhygienic in cafes. I‘d have left too

This

Just because people do not say anything, does not mean they want to hear or smell your dog when they are eating.

And stop comparing them to children, they are animals, they are eaten in a sauce abroad…

I wish dogs were allowed in supermarkets too

They are in Italy!!! If the dog can fit in the special trolley and sit and behave well, they can go around the supermarket.

You just disinfect the trolley when you're finished.

Browsing the cheese counter at eye level safely from the trolley made my boys day 😂🧀🐶

I have seen a customer with a large python wrapped around his neck in a cafe, and even one with a large pet pig.

Just adds to the character!!!

It's acceptable because the business owners deem it so. I genuinely do not get why that is so hard for people to grasp.

If the majority did not like it business owners would stop allowing it because it would affect their profit margins. No one, dog owner or otherwise, has a right to frequent an establishment.

Horrace · 25/11/2023 22:02

The question is, why do people feel the need to take their pets out with them. Do they take them to work also.
This is a genuine question.
I have animals and I leave them at home. Wouldn't dream of taking them anywhere with me.

Should be alright I reckon, as long as they're trained😆 I'd love to bring a horse in and see what happened - just a small, well behaved horse, mind. It could have a horsachino up at the table and do a nice big dump in the aisle on the way out.

Lindjam · 25/11/2023 22:04

My gigantic Tesco allows dogs. Usually several in there during any visit.

I assumed this was normal at most supermarkets now since it’s the norm in my area.

I love seeing dogs out and about, enjoying themselves.

Tryingmybestadhd · 25/11/2023 22:05

I do t take my dog to meals out normally as she begs for food constantly but other dogs don’t bother me unless they constant make noise

Nanaof1 · 25/11/2023 22:06

I think if a place allows dogs, they should have to allow any and all pets. Could make it interesting to see dogs, cats, rats, snakes, hamsters and lizards all "co-mingling" in cafes and pubs.

enchantedsquirrelwood · 25/11/2023 18:53

Well it needs to be so that things change. There is no reason for dogs to be in cafes. Rural pubs, yes. City cafes, no.

We don't need dogs being foisted on us everywhere we go.

I saw that a hotel I like has now decided to allow them. Showed pictures of them sat on a sofa. I mean, really. Anyway we won't be returning. Maybe the "dog pound" really is worth that much but this hotel is on an island, so you can only get there by ferry (not that reliable) or plane (dogs not allowed unless assistance dogs). So I'd have thought that the dog pound was worth that much less.

Yuk. That means the dogs bare anus was directly in contact with the sofa seat that the next person may put their hand on, before then eating. Or or a toddler climb up using their hands and then put their fingers in their mouth or eyes. Ew. I like dogs. All animals but not in cafes and restaurants. And certainly not on seats.

Actually I would go in if horses were allowed.

jemenfous37 · 25/11/2023 22:07

@Begsthequestion Of course not. You are being obtuse. People have put their food into the same space where a child's nappy clad bottom has been

I did see a man with an owl on his shoulder in a pub in Glastonbury once.

They may have been out with dog anyway (a long walk?) and stopped for a coffee.
They may have been meeting with friends who wanted to see their dog too.
They could be on holiday so have to take their dog with them anyway (you can't leave them alone in accommodation).

We are allowed to bring dogs to work at my office. We are opposite a very big park and also have our own outside space.

I love having the dogs there to fuss over, and come into the office more often if I know there will be dogs!

Our boss decided it was better for staff retention to allow the dogs and brings their own dog in sometimes.

Onabench · 25/11/2023 22:09

I’d rather 8 dogs than 8 kids…. It’s a public place with the public so it is down to the establishment

Andthereyougo · 25/11/2023 22:09

Dog asleep or sitting under a table — fine.
Dog barking at its owners eating ( pub meal last week) No
Dogs sat on seats licking plates ( seaside cafe a few weeks ago) — definite no.
I love dogs but want my coffee/ lunch in peace and don’t want to sit on a hair covered seat.

What do you want them to use? Loo roll?

See, I could definitely get on board with that!

Quite a few posters seem to be struggling to understand that these are business decisions. Not value judgements about pets.
