7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

Starbucks allow dogs??

I didn't know that... brilliant, thanks OP

This is actually great.

Let's have all the dog obsessives and their hairy, germy babies congregate in the worst coffee shop on the high street, thus leaving the rest of the nice cafes for people who value hygiene and human company.

Pretty solid compromise imo.

Niallig32839 · 25/11/2023 21:24

I love my dog, she’s the most adorable, sweetest funniest ball of fun however she doesn’t enjoy being in cafes or shops, full of things and people she wants to be near and being told no so it’s very stressful for us and not a good time for her so we don’t take her. I really don’t mind at all and they dogs being in places at all but they always seem to behave, mine wouldn’t so we don’t go and stress us all out.

💯

Says who? We enjoy being with our well behaved dog and love taking her out with us as far as possible. She loves being with us and the attention she gets. She isn’t a service dog, but a very good friend to my husband too, who has young onset Alzheimer’s disease. I think she absolutely belongs with us out and about. We are sensible owners and she is well trained, although I appreciate not every dog is.

Livelovebehappy · 25/11/2023 21:25

I vote for child free cafes! It would certainly get my custom. Happier to be sat amongst dogs than feral kids, of which there are so many at the moment…..

None of those within 10 miles either (and the nearest one is a complete dive that I don’t feel safe going into as a lone woman)

Costa? Morrisons/Tesco cafe? I live in a small town & have all these!

Screamingabdabz · 25/11/2023 18:51

One dog in an establishment serving food or dog is too many.

This

you cannot avoid them, they are in most cafes.

Maatandosiris · 25/11/2023 21:23

Costas don’t allow dogs

It seems to depend on branch. I actually thought they didn’t, but we have two branches in town and they both let dogs in so now I’m not sure!

Costa lets them in here. No Morrisons and Tesco cafe is never open.

Another miserable dog hater. This has been done to death on MN

First comment, that's got to be a record!

The opposite of not wanted dogs sniffing round your feet while you eat is not being a dog hater. Or miserable. I'm completely indifferent to them normally, but I also don't want them where I'm eating - no matter how much you pooch-lovers say it, they always smell.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 25/11/2023 21:28

Here's a business venture for you then, open your own dog-free cafe in your area and advertise it as such.

JudgeJ · 25/11/2023 21:16

Another MNer who can only see things in binary, either all wrong or all right. I am not a dog hater although I have never owned one, being a cat person, but 7 dogs in a relatively small space, Starbucks are usually fairly tight on space even for two legged customers, would be too much for me.

That’s why it’s very doubtful this even happened. It’s not unknown for dog haters to kind of exaggerate the situation. It gives more to their argument than, for example, saying there were three dogs……

PomPomSugar · 25/11/2023 19:45

I watched a lady watch her Labrador urinate up the stand selling birthday cards at the garden centre today and just walk away as if nothing had happened.

Iv seen this before its disgusting and the main reason dogs shouldn't be allowed in these sort of places.

WhatNoUsername · 25/11/2023 21:30

mumda · 25/11/2023 20:10

People who are badly allergic to dogs are not going to enjoy having a coffee in a place with 7 dogs.

And as more and more places start allowing dogs then the world of people with dog allergies (or those who are scared of dogs) becomes smaller and smaller. I don't have a dog allergy but it's completely unacceptable that the wants and needs of dogs and dog owners trumps that of any humans! People shouldn't be prevented from accessing shops and cafes due to fear and allergies because of the presence of dogs that don't need to be in those spaces!

Agree. Perfect little Jonny with his unhygienic fingers & his snotty nose sucking hot chocolate through a straw while drooling & chucking marshmallows or a lovely a lovely dog just sitting there? I adore my child more than life but my dog is definitely cleaner & better behaved!

Because I don’t want to, it’s not illegal and absent people who seem determined to offemdedsje doesn’t bother anyone. I took mine today to an xmas lunch with 20 friends, some of whom I don’t see more than a couple of times a year- I was an hour each way plus 3/4 hours for lunch & if I hadn’t taken here I couldn’t have gone as 6 hours is too long to leave her.

she said hello to people who chose to interact with her, sat under the table between my feet whilst I ate and later on my lap when I was chatting. No offense to anyone, but most of the miserable bastards on here would rather I had stayed home, alone and isolated, because they enjoy whinging.

You sat with a dog on your lap, level with the table, in a restaurant? Where it could have access to the table surface, and anything left on the table? That’s the kind of thing people are objecting to.

AlwaysGinPlease · 25/11/2023 21:33

@sollenwir well that clearly sounded better in yours 😂

If you don’t like dogs or dogs being inside cafes then just leave and go somewhere else. It’s not really an issue.

But the coffee shops and eateries are for paying humans to consume food and beverages. Not for paying dogs

StarDolphins · 25/11/2023 21:26

I live in an area which has none of those.

Shittyflute · 25/11/2023 21:36

I don't particularly want stinky, slobbery dogs lounging around while I'm eating or drinking. I certainly don't want to see or hear them slurping ridiculous speciality dog drinks. And definitely not up at a table. People need to grow up and stop treating their pets like humans.

And if you think your dog doesn't smell - you're wrong. Your dog smells of dog. Which is absolutely fine and completely normal. But it's very unpleasant in a place where food is served.

MudSandWater · 25/11/2023 21:36

should a human really have to feel they need to leave a cafe, because there are animals there?... I love dogs, but that seems a bit upside down to me

AlwaysGinPlease · 25/11/2023 21:33

Again, do your rude comments sound clever in your head, because they're not.

It's also quite childish to be rude just when you disagree/don't have a counter argument.

Littlelucas · 25/11/2023 21:38

I agree wholeheartedly op, it’s mad.

The worst is when (like in a cafe I was in today and had ordered and received our food before I realised it was “dog friendly”) the entitled halfwit owners allow that them to sit on a chair/on their lap and eat titbits from their plate and lick their fingers etc whilst people are eating 🤮

As others have said it’s all well and good saying “go elsewhere then” but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find somewhere that doesn’t allow them.
I think more and more people are getting sick of it though and hopefully voting with their feet - I know of one cafe near me that’s stopped allowing them after “incidents”.

I do think a lot of dog owners are entitled and selfish - they just don’t get that lots of people don’t want to be in a small enclosed space around them or eating near them. I’ve had dogs in the past, never would’ve taken them in a cafe or restaurant.

Dentistlakes · 25/11/2023 21:38

YANBU, it’s getting ridiculous. They really don’t belong in cafes or restaurants. I nearly stood on one in
John Lewis the other day. I love dogs, always has them as a child, but we never took them into shops or restaurants. Country pubs after hill walking yes, but other than that they were left at home or someone stood outside with them.

Yellowtrouser · 25/11/2023 21:38

@Standproperly re dog pound on the island. Are the lots residents with dogs and it is them the cafe wants to attract?

mumda · 25/11/2023 21:38

In the same way food labeling needs to list allergens, venues should make it really clear they have dogs allowed or that it's a dog free venue.

It only seems fair.
