It highlights the Tory way of looking at things: your issue of people living in poverty is nothing to do with us/me, it’s because you and your constituents live in a “shit hole” and that’s completely your own fault.

And then of course, lie about it, even when you’re caught out.

So he's now saying he called the other MP shit not stockton a shithole. Even if that is true it is hardly appropriate. What a way to behave.

Just as illuminating are the ones completely misunderstanding (or deliberately misrepresenting) the issue as one of 'misconduct ' in the commons. That's standard MP behaviour! The issue is the contempt for large swathes of the population.

Perhaps it is to the people of Stockton. Perhaps it is to the third of children growing up in poverty there.

His comments were completely out of line. The reason 34% of children in Stockton are living in poverty is because of 13 years of Tories austerity and cuts as well as their deliberate underfunding of Labour held areas.

And because it's in Teesside and the North East is non existent to parliament.

Sunak can't really sack yet another home secretary, can he? He's running out of options.

You don't think it's newsworthy that a very senior member of the cabinet would dismiss a question about unpalatably high levels of child poverty with a comment about the place being a shithole? And that he then lied about having said it?

Can't wait for all the Tory voters who are always banging on about how rude, aggressive, nasty and foul-mouthed 'the left' are, and how they can therefore never vote Labour and will have to vote Tory into perpetuity, to turn up. Doubtless they will be outraged at this incident. Either that or they will never mention it, just like JRM's comments about Grenfell, Jenkyns giving the public the finger, a number of comments made by Johnson over the years etc etc.

These people hold us in utter contempt. And no wonder when they keep getting voted in no matter what they do.

Its somewhat funny that people are pretending to be angered by this.

First off, Stockton is a dump. It is massively deprived and its depressing to even visit the place.

And no, "levelling up" was just a slogan to buy votes at the GE2019.

Stockton had been dying for a long time and nobody is coming to rescue it.

Nor should they. When you have very limited money, Stockton is not the place you should be spending this money on. The area is already dead with no hope of recovering.
