Course he said it! What happened to levelling up eh! Scary that they actually think like this. It isn't helpful at all. Disgraceful in fact.

Its somewhat funny that people are pretending to be angered by this.

First off, Stockton is a dump. It is massively deprived and its depressing to even visit the place.

And no, "levelling up" was just a slogan to buy votes at the GE2019.

Stockton had been dying for a long time and nobody is coming to rescue it.

Nor should they. When you have very limited money, Stockton is not the place you should be spending this money on. The area is already dead with no hope of recovering.

Fucking hell, are you always this unpleasant? Do you actually give a shit about anyone other than yourself?

Springcleaninginsummer · 23/11/2023 21:12

Thanks for caring about us. Some of us live and work on Teesside. The comments by some posters here are appalling. I think much of London is a shithole but it wouldn't go down well to write off those communities, would it?

Topofthemountain · 23/11/2023 21:12

Oh and let's have a think why huge areas are deprived, because the area as a whole has been decimated by successive governments, with this one doing untold damage.

BouncingJAS · 23/11/2023 21:13

Hate to break this to you,

But that is not how life works when you have limited funds.

You have to make choices.

Stockton is simply not the right choice.

The UK is facing a triage type economic situation due to massive economic damage (Brexit/Covid).

Stockton is simply not worth saving.

I'm actually more upset by the comments on here then the circumstances around what was actually said.

Anyway, which poster is going to tell Tom Hardy or Duncan Bannatyne that they live in a shit hole?

You sound like a delightful person! So everyone living there should just put up with it then should they? They don’t deserve better, it’s their fault!! 🤣 My God!

I think that is the jist.

Notaflippinclue · 23/11/2023 21:20

Why do you think that he thinks it's a shit hole

luckylavender · 23/11/2023 21:21

They're all so arrogant and out of touch. They need some time in the wilderness. They think they can behave however they want.

Can't wait for all the Tory voters who are always banging on about how rude, aggressive, nasty and foul-mouthed 'the left' are, and how they can therefore never vote Labour and will have to vote Tory into perpetuity, to turn up. Doubtless they will be outraged at this incident. Either that or they will never mention it, just like JRM's comments about Grenfell, Jenkyns giving the public the finger, a number of comments made by Johnson over the years etc etc.

These people hold us in utter contempt. And no wonder when they keep getting voted in no matter what they do.

Just waiting for "but Angela Rayner". 🙄

My ex came from Stockton. I had many happy visits there.

Its people deserve better than your arrogant dismissal of Cleverley"s comments.

PrimalOwl10 · 23/11/2023 21:25

BouncingJAS your lack of knowledge about a place you know is worrying. I am from Stockton. Money has been put into the regeneration of the town. The globe which was a historic picture house has been revamped and hosts regular events, old units have been demolished and the area is to be landscaped to showcase the river tees, with a new leisure centre due to be built. We also have the arc which hosts events and shows. It's no more deprived than follow towns such as Derby, Hull, Grimsby, Leeds, Leicester, Luton. The problem is people aren't buying in the high streets so shops end up closing. Atleast stockton is doing something to regenerate its town.

Notaflippinclue · 23/11/2023 21:25

Good job everybody who says things like shit hole at work doesn't get sacked - the country would implode

Yeah, parts of Stockton are a dump.
But so are parts of London. Shall we just wipe London off the map too? What about Birmingham? Manchester???

There are some amazing places round here. There is some fabulous research and regeneration. There is also abject poverty. And run down areas that NOONE deserves to have to live in. If you write off stockton you write off masses of the NE and Teesside.

Open your eyes. Poverty is everywhere.

BouncingJAS · 23/11/2023 21:26

Again,

There is no money. Why do people not understand that the situation in the UK is beyond grim?

This is not pre-covid times when you could borrow money at 1%.

There is no way to fund any help. It is too expensive now at 5%.

People in the UK need to realise just how grim the situation is on the ground.

Places like Stockton have no future.

You don't put scarce funding in places like that because you get nothing back.

PrimalOwl10 · 23/11/2023 21:28

BouncingJAS enlighten me why does stockton have no future?

They seem to find the money to invest in affluent areas just fine somehow 🤔 the Tory way 🤣

BouncingJAS · 23/11/2023 21:31

Its the same reasons for many places in the UK.

Large amount of pensioners.

Less families and young children.

Young people leave places like Stockton because there are no jobs for them there.

This is what kills most towns and villages in the UK.

Namechange1345677 · 23/11/2023 21:31

I know stockton very well! And I've been to a hell of a lot worse places! Parts of London are horrific!! Stockton has been neglected over the years but its still trying! And doesn't deserve such comments!

Dymaxion · 23/11/2023 21:31

Sunak can't really sack yet another home secretary, can he? He's running out of options

Oh I don't know, there are over 67million people in the UK, make one of them probably no-one in the Conservative party a Lord and Bob's your Uncle ?

PrimalOwl10 · 23/11/2023 21:33

How would you know the ratio of the population of stockton? Many generations leave here. I'm one if them have a family and both have jobs? Kids go to a good school.

Notaflippinclue · 23/11/2023 21:25

I mean I'm pretty sure if, for example, you were working with a client and you commented that their company/product/clientele/whatever, was shit/a shithole during a meeting you wouldn't get very far in your industry. It's not just a casual swearword in the workplace is it?

PrimalOwl10 · 23/11/2023 21:36

The Borough of Stockton-on-Tees is home to 197,348 people, of which almost 25% are aged 0 - 19 years, almost 78% are aged 18+ and within this demographic group, around 18% are aged 65+
