Of 745,000 people a year isn’t what the 17 million people who voted for Brexit in 2016 thought they were voting for?

YABU = Yes, this is what Leave supporters voted for.

YANBI = No, they didn’t vote for this.

eg 29 out of 30 midwives leave within a couple of years

You appear to have misunderstood what was being claimed;

2018
The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) said attempts to boost staff numbers had made little difference, because so many are leaving the NHS or taking retirement.

Its research shows that even though universities trained an extra 2,000 midwives in 2016/17, the total number rose by just 67, because so many workers left the service.

RCM chief executive Gill Walton said, “It is of deep concern that we’re only seeing an increase of about one NHS midwife for every 30 or so newly-qualified midwives graduating from our universities. The problem is that so many existing midwives are leaving the service that the two things almost cancel each other out.”

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/09/12/nhs-loses-29-midwives-every-30-trains/

Leavers' survey 2022 - The Nursing and Midwifery Council

The three most commonly selected reasons for leaving the register were the same as in previous years: retirement (42.9 percent), personal circumstances (21.7 percent), and too much pressure (18.3 percent).

Oh thank goodness for that!

I was starting to think that maternity services being declared unsafe was all a nightmare?
In fact some 65% are deemed unsafe.... must be all those extra midwives not knowing what they are doing? or too many Midwives in the NHS do you think?

The College is warning of a ‘midwife exodus’ as it publishes the results of its annual member experiences of work survey. Over half of midwives surveyed said they were considering leaving their job as a midwife with 57% saying they would leave
Of those midwives who either have left or were considering leaving, more than eight out of 10 were concerned about staffing levels and two-thirds were not satisfied with the quality of care they are currently able to deliver (Oct 2021)

Latest maternity scandal is in Derbyshire.

You are incorrect, read further in to the data or look on sites that have.

Recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) data records show that two thirds (67%) of maternity units to not be safe enough. This figure is worryingly up 55% from Autumn 2022 (17 Nov 2023)

Like is said the latest scandal is in Derbyshire, following on from a long list of maternity scandals.

jasflowers · 04/12/2023 14:21

Anyway, healthcare wont get better under this lot, new min skilled salaries, will ensure that social care and NHS will continue to decline.

jgw1 · 04/12/2023 15:01

I feel this is a clear sign of the will of the people.

I don't need to read further into the data - I've linked to the CQC (15 Nov 2023) and quoted from their summary. Not being safe enough/requires improvement is not the same grading as unsafe/inadequate.

Focus on maternity services
... Safety and leadership remain particular areas of concern, with 15% of services rated as inadequate for their safety and 12% rated as inadequate for being well-led.

the latest scandal is in Derbyshire

Indeed-
Maternity services in Derby and Burton-upon-Trent have been rated inadequate by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

At least we are counting them in, know who they are and who their employers are (they have to update their visa if they change employer). Over 6 million people applied to the EU settlement scheme - that was a surprise.

HannibalHeyes · 04/12/2023 19:53

It was so important to count them in when you could just count all the taxes through paid...

jasflowers · 04/12/2023 19:56

How reassuring!

So 67% of services are not safe enough/requires improvement, what an indictment on 13.5 years of Tory mismanagement of womens health services.

But never mind we can all risk death giving birth, at least Sunak knows what a woman is!

It is such a shame that you didn't point out to Cameron before the Brexit referendum that all he needed to do was to count people who came into this country, it could have avoided so much upheaval.

Thats not quite true, the real number of applicants is approx 3.5m, according to the ONS.
Many reasons for this, not least that so many applied and then went home to their country of origin or applied multiple times or didn't need to apply (ROI citizens)

Unbelievably, 150k non EU citizens came here, last year, to do adult social care BUT they then applied for 175k visas (and obtained) for dependents.

EU citizens tended to come here without their parents or even children if we are to believe the 'Mail/Express stories of EU workers stripping the UK of Child Benefit! & of course then went home, to their families after a few years, not so your average non EU citizen.

That's right, blame the government - nothing to do with the staff, management or culture at the unit/hospital. Your dd works in healthcare I recall - did she emigrate to Australia in the end?

HannibalHeyes · 04/12/2023 20:17

It's the government what makes the rules. These are all legal immigrants after all...

We also don't know how many of those who applied for EU settled status actually stayed in the UK or intend to stay in the UK long term. For example people may have applied for the status in order to pay home university tuition fees and then may well move to another country after uni.

I can't help but wonder also who determines how much those who work in hospitals and the care sector are paid...

Or are we to believe that not only the Prime Minister, but the whole government are only in charge of pot plants?

No they weren't, you are telling fibs now, 67% unsafe, you even said so yourself.

Google it, i'm not your admin, ONS have a large site, shouldn't be too difficult even for you lol!
But as i'm nice - Our latest data, using information from the Annual Population Survey (APS), shows that in mid-2020 there were around 3.5 million EU citizens living in the UK, a lot smaller than the 6 million applications for the EU Settlement Scheme

Allowing in 170k dependents is solely down to the Govt, as is allowing care workers to now earn less than retail staff, 10 years ago they earned more than retail.

If we are to believe you, the Tory don't actually do anything, on this we may well agree.

So, you were fibbing about your dd going to work in a hospital in Australia then?

The number of international students studying at our universities is not as alarming as the fact that it's being used as route to migration. With each visa paving the way for 4 minor children and a spouse. Free education, free healthcare and security.
The Care Visa is even worse. No or minimal visa and visa renewal fees, no healthcare surcharge, many paying over £10,000 to unscrupulous Care Home Owners to provide them a Certificate of Sponsorship having paid the Home Office about £200 for it. 100 COSs x £1,000,000. Care Home Owners are laughing all the way to the bank on fraud. For one Care Worker the country gets 4 minor children and one dependent adult (free schooling and healthcare). More demand on rental property, mostly over crowded in one or two bedroom flats. Then the Care Home doesn't provide the shifts for many of the workers so they get stranded and desperate to make money.
Having provided fake or manipulated bank statements showing funds sufficient for the initial few months of their upkeep. Some owe the migration consultants who loaned them the funds, so they're in debt in their home country too. The dependent visa needs to be stopped.
Give a 2yr then 4yr visa for careers while govt puts in place a training and recruitment drive with better wages. Otherwise govt is still hemorrhaging in the higher demand for school places and healthcare as a result.
