Is it just becoming the norm? How is everyone affording it in a cost of living crisis?

The thing is, you have any number of young girls who have just done a ‘course’ on fillers and are looking for clientele. I’ve never had it, but if I was ever going to, I would personally look further than local FB pages.

lovelyjubbly888 · 26/11/2023 02:36

Just realised “‘course’” may sound detrimental. What I mean is, it seems anyone can just go off and learn how to do fillers. I understand they are fully certified but that doesn’t mean they have the extent of knowledge that other professionals have. Completely realise I’m digging myself into a bit of a hole here trying to explain myself!

Why would you spend all that money if you can’t see it.

Because they want it. That’s it. It’s that simple. It’s nobody else’s business what people choose to spend their money on. It’s nobody else’s business what people do with their own bodies.

Edited

Well it is everyone's business when the NHS have to pick up the pieces and fix the problems caused by unregulated practitioners.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 26/11/2023 04:03

God another one who's picked up on the nhs picking up the pieces rubbish. For lip fillers?? If people hate them they get them dissolved. They don't go to the NHS! Want to talk about smokers instead? Binge eaters? The list is endless but does not include lip fillers! This is getting ridiculous

Well it is everyone's business when the NHS have to pick up the pieces and fix the problems caused by unregulated practitioners.

The NHS have to fix far more problems caused by alcohol and drug abuse, smoking, poor diet, violence, accidents, mental health crises due to: socioeconomic factors, cost of living crisis, poverty, trauma.

People who have experienced problems due to unregulated practitioners have the same right to use the NHS than the people experiencing problems with all the above issues I stated.

So don’t even go there.

avemariiiiiaaaa · 26/11/2023 04:38

I think it looks terrible when the lips are absolutely massive and look ready to burst.

There seems to be a trend for woman having huge eyelashes that are so big they can barely hold their eyes open, over the top fake/sunbed tan on the face and those oversized duck lips. And they all look the same.

I genuinely can't tell women who follow this trend apart.

It's sad really they being unique, and just being yourself isn't always enough.

I see primary school aged girls with their hair immaculately styled, blush, eye shadow, mascara, lipstick... wha

They quite often have a massive smart phone glued to their hand too.

And all the social problems you listed are everyone's business as well. That's what society is. You do something stupid and we all end up paying for it, making it everyone's business

mrssunshinexxx · 26/11/2023 07:08

@suntannedsnowballs I think you look great but personally I do think you can tel you've got filler, I have it too so no shame here ! X

. I don’t see men injecting their bodies with all manner of potentially toxic chemicals
Are you having a laugh @Angrymum22 ?

Oh but they do. Botox in particular is becoming much more popular with men. Corporate and media in particular. Filler is also but with more of a specific demographic of men. Overall, men are increasing their use of injectables

Itsmehi222 · 25/11/2023 18:23

@FlissyPaps lol. Lip fillers look shit, get over it.

This is the problem with so many that get so much lip filler, utterly desperate for the approval of others. Why do you care so much that a stranger hates your look? It’s hideous imo, I couldn’t care less what you thought of my look because I’m happy with who I am. You should work on you.

You miss the irony of your comment. I very much doubt people who love their filler care a jot whether you, a complete random, hates their look. You do you. Let them do them.

drowningfrowning · 26/11/2023 07:36

@FlissyPaps no one is saying you can't see the difference. We are saying you can't tell it's filler. They just look like nicer lips. I've posted pictures. If you think they looked better before and that they look obvious then you are just being obtuse and clearly disingenuous just to back up your weirdly judgemental rhetoric. I don't give a jot if people used fair tan, wear makeup, colour their hair or inject their lips. It matters not to me. You may prefer a world where everyone goes au natural and you may feel it is unhealthy that people choose to alter themselves with any or all of the above processes but many of us don't.

Well obviously they do lol, you don’t incite such passion in people who don’t care.

drowningfrowning · 26/11/2023 09:04

@Itsmehi222 I think like me, people are not particularly concerned what you think of them. They are concerned about the misogynistic and judgemental nature of posters such as yourself. Whether it be fillers or make up or what women at each stage of life wear or what sort of pictures women choose to post of themselves on social media People who snarl and judge them are revealing an internal hatred of women and/or bitterness that other women choose to do things that they/you wouldn't

We have natural big lips as a family. I hated them when I was young, I thought they were so ugly.
I have noticed that a lot of women have them done to even up their top lip. Naturally top lips are meant to be slightly smaller. Too much filler flattens the philtrum and you lose the natural bow ( kiss shape).
I found an old photo of my grandmother, I never met her, she died when my dad was a few days old. But it’s her lips that we have all inherited.
I have posted her photo, circa 1930, along with my DS’s lips. He has been asked if they are natural by girls at school. He’s 6’3” and a rugby layer, you can imagine his reply.

Massive lip envy! Your grandmother looks stunning.

It's the fact that everyone looks the same!

I know it's not the first era for that (60s 'dollybirds') but everything is the same - facial features, teeth, facial expressions, hairstyles, fashion everything. Much less individuality

I agree. It screams insecurity. Wanting to look exactly the same as everyone else and too scared to stand out.

PonyPatter44 · 26/11/2023 11:12

@filthypride your lips look great, and very natural.

The bickering is ridiculous and adds nothing to the original question, which was actually really interesting. I think its all due to this weird pornification of femininity. The current "look" is like a blow up doll or like a drag queen....rather than like a woman. If I was a young teen now, I'd be a bit worried at how I was expected to look. Hopefully it will swing back to a prettier, more natural look soon.

HannahHannahAnna · 26/11/2023 11:40

Its not that they necessarily look 'shit' or 'hideous' but they're rarely going to look as pretty as a naturally defined lip which is part of what gives a face character. Personally I love my mouth, my lips have a very defined heart shape with quite an exaggerated bow which would be lost with filler

Did you @ me by accident? What comment of mine are you replying to here? 😂

Where have I said that it’s unhealthy for people to alter themselves? I believe in the exact opposite.

But well filled lips don't look undefined. Some natural lips just aren't very nice. You are luck yours are. These lips for example are much better after. Subtle but better. They natural lips are not particularly attractive and I don't blame them for wanting to improve them

I've had small amounts of lip filler several times and I know no one can tell.. because even my father (who hates fillers with a passion so would absolutely attempt to scold me for it) has not noticed. I have been in the company of friends at work, them sitting slating people who have fillers, and they have genuinely almost fell out of their chairs when I piped up.

You can't 'always' tell - you're just not noticing the ones who have had it done subtly. The people with duck faces you see in public have had filler administered using poor quality product, their practitioner has terrible technique, or they are simply overfilled. In my area you can get 1ml filler for £60, administered by Amy the lash tech with little to no knowledge of facial anatomy - people who go to Amy will nearly always be obvious.

The lady I go to is a nurse prescriber, and charges no less than £250. I travel 40 miles to go to her specifically. All her clients look amazing, if I do say so myself Grin

The societal expectations are an issue though. I was always insecure about the way my top lip disappeared when I smiled, before lip fillers were even a thing - so I fixed that insecurity. But there are droves of women who are having fillers just as the new normal because it's what you 'do', when they weren't even insecure about it in the first place. It's a tough one

I can honestly say I had never thought about what happens to my top lip when I smile, but I can now add it to the long list of things I don't worry about.

Angrymum22 · 26/11/2023 12:30

If you look at most people when they smile their upper lip noticeably thins and disappears. Unless, of course, it’s filled or has been flipped at the corners with Botox.
I used my DS’s lips as an example earlier. Even his upper lip disappears in full smile. You can see below the difference, although the smile is only half grin not full grin. It almost disappears when he does a full smile.
The full lip view demonstrates the natural shelving which disappears when smiling. In filled lips it is accentuated.
