To risk giving DD swift tickets for birthday without having any ???

Hi
I am probably being unreasonable 🤣🙈
DD turning 10 really wants Taylor swift tickets for her birthday.
birthday is very close to Xmas and as much as I tried I didn’t get tickets. Now my issue is the resale tickets are pricey. I would be able to buy resale tickets after Xmas financially but that would be after her birthday too.
with other kids to buy Xmas presents for and one birthday this month already paying that amount this month just isn’t going to happen.
is it too much of a risk to buy her like reveal tickets for her birthday and then find resale tickets later on ???
in guessing there will be resale tickets popping up.
I can’t get them additionally to other birthday presents because it would be completely unfair in the other children !

Do not do this. The pressure would be immense.

WeekWeekWeek · 22/11/2023 00:37

This is a ridiculous idea.

Sorry.

Far too risky.

Dartmoorcheffy · 22/11/2023 00:37

I wouldn't risk it in case you can't get them. I think you need to ne honest and say you couldn't get them and can't afford extortionate resale prices.

Hermittrismegistus · 22/11/2023 00:37

Don't do it. The crushing disappointment she'll feel if you're unable to get tickets would be immense.

EmmaEmerald · 22/11/2023 00:39

No way. What are the chances of getting them? Wasn't it like a 2% chance if you tried originally?

Numberalphablock · 22/11/2023 00:40

Financially looking at the cost of resale I defo could - no issues there but my worry is 2 won’t come available
I think I know it’s unreasonable just really trying to make it possible for her 🙈 so thinking out loud

Don’t do this, for multiple reasons

  1. the pressure to get them
  2. how disappointed she will be if it doesn’t happen
  3. the humiliation of going into school and saying you got Taylor Swift tickets and then it not happening…no p one would ever believe her.
Numberalphablock · 22/11/2023 00:46

@EmmaEmerald yeh I really tried but ticket master didn’t give me a code so was impossible. Now I’m looking at 600 a ticket minimum.

Nagado · 22/11/2023 00:47

What date are you after? If it’s well into next year, could you afford to buy them in the months after Christmas and give them to her as an early birthday present for next year? You’d just have to keep reminding her not to expect anything when next year’s birthday rolls around though.

ETA £600 a ticket??? Bloody hell, I secretly love her, but sod paying £1200 to take her to a concert!

Numberalphablock · 22/11/2023 00:51

@Nagado any date … any venue 🤣🤣 we would travel ! She is v sick and I just want so desperately to make it happen
as I said above I know my idea was madness and I’m just clutching at any idea possible !

OP posts:
Numberalphablock · 22/11/2023 00:51

@Nagado yep and that’s minimum probably looking at 795.00 plus !

Do not do this , if you manage to get tickets next year just give them as an early birthday gift . What you are suggesting is a really bad idea.

It's really, categorically, not worth it. I've seen her, she's great. But not 800 quid a ticket great. I promise.

MonsteraMama · 22/11/2023 01:29

Are you planning on spending 1200-1600 on your other children's birthdays too? Unless you've got "fuck you" money that seems an insane amount.

Agapornis · 22/11/2023 01:39

If she's sick, you could try Make A Wish or similar charities. They can often wangle things us commoners can't.
P.s. don't give a ticket that may or may not materialise for Christmas, it's not fair on her or the other children.

thaegumathteth · 22/11/2023 01:41

Definitely do NOT do this. The ticket situation was / is insane. You say she's sick - would she need accessible seating? Could you both travel ok? At short notice? There's too much to consider and way way too much risk.

TheNestedIf · 22/11/2023 01:43

If you're still awake, try https://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/taylor-swift-tickets/artist/1094215 19th or 20th August at Wembley. There still seem to be active queues for those dates, as I write this.

MissBattleaxe · 22/11/2023 01:43

Sometimes it doesn't hurt kids to know life sometimes can't come through for you. They'll be ok if they don't go. Life can still be amazing.

Numberalphablock · 22/11/2023 01:50

@TheNestedIf ticketmaster requires a code ?
I never got one and was never was never wait listed either ! :(

DiscoBeat · 22/11/2023 01:53

God no!

Somewhereovertherainbowweighapie · 22/11/2023 01:56

The only way you could get away with it is being honest with her. Give her the option of trying to get tickets or particular gift. If she understands that if you can’t get the tickets she will get the gift, but it won’t be until after Christmas. But this really depends on how she would cope with it.

I suppose that to keep our the riff-raff.

If you were a true Swifty, you'd have that code!

Anyway, could you take her to see the Eras film? Or have you already done that?

HereIAmThereYouAre · 22/11/2023 02:01

OP since your poor DD is v sick, try calling the venue(s) box office direct and asking of she is eligible for accessible tickets. They are sometimes sold separately to the main ticket sales. We managed to get tickets for our disabled DD for Billie Eilish even though they had sold out instantly online.

Fernand · 22/11/2023 02:03

Please don’t use sites like viagogo, they are a massive rip off. Try twickets nearer the time, can’t be sold for massively over asking price and you have some protections. Just set up an alert for the tix on your phone and download the app. I go to gigs at least every fortnight (big and small size venues) and never been let down on twickets.

Numberalphablock · 22/11/2023 02:09

@penjil we are not riff raff🤣 I haven’t bought many tickets for concerts and my ticket master account had never been used.
you are right - I am not , my 10 year old is 🙈
