To risk giving DD swift tickets for birthday without having any ???

Hi
I am probably being unreasonable 🤣🙈
DD turning 10 really wants Taylor swift tickets for her birthday.
birthday is very close to Xmas and as much as I tried I didn’t get tickets. Now my issue is the resale tickets are pricey. I would be able to buy resale tickets after Xmas financially but that would be after her birthday too.
with other kids to buy Xmas presents for and one birthday this month already paying that amount this month just isn’t going to happen.
is it too much of a risk to buy her like reveal tickets for her birthday and then find resale tickets later on ???
in guessing there will be resale tickets popping up.
I can’t get them additionally to other birthday presents because it would be completely unfair in the other children !

I managed to get a code to purchase tickets (after bring initially wait listed) for DD, and when we went to buy tickets the cheapest ones were £625 each in Liverpool! I had to tell DD that there was no way I could pay that, she understood and agreed the price was ridiculous (she's 14). I dread to think how much people will end up paying. Please don't go ahead with your plan, too much risk of disappointment.

Globules · 22/11/2023 07:41

I'm so glad you managed to get sorted OP. Great news. Sometimes, Mumsnet is a generous place to be. 👏

This is REALLY not a dig at those who got tickets for 1+ nights, but I'm so frustrated at this ticket buying system we've now found ourselves in. My 17yr old DD and 5 of her Swifty (crazy!) friends all signed up for tickets across the country. As did I, my sister, my niece and my bestie...we were all so desperate to get her tickets as we know how big a fan DD is.

None of us even got past the wait list.

Yet on this thread, some posters have managed to get tickets over 2 or more nights. Again, not a dig at those who have, but frustrated that there's something wrong with the "random" system if that's happened for multiple posters.

The resale price is ludicrous. A friend's friend has 2 tickets for sale on StubHub and wants me to pay a £500 mark up per ticket 😳 Er. No.

I've told DD we'll have to take our chances on Twickets nearer the time. So glad I've raised her to understand that £600 per ticket is not a reasonable amount to pay, however much she wants it.

I miss the days when you camped outside venues and queued in real life. Today's online systems leave so many opportunities open for touts and chancers looking to make a quick buck. And StubHub and Ticketmaster must be raking it in in commission.

If you've currently got Swifty tickets, go through the process of looking to sell them on Ticketmaster and see what price they make you charge for them (as they dictate the resale price, not you). Obviously don't sell them though! It'll be interesting to find out what ticketmaster insist you sell them for and how much commission that gives them.

jamjar3 · 22/11/2023 07:41

You missed the H in Edinburgh 🫣🫣🫣

jamjar3 · 22/11/2023 07:44

Resale on ticketmaster. You get back what you paid for them..
The resale price is so the make money off the resale. Nothing to do with the og seller.

I had a code for Edinburgh and l.pool didn't use either.

Ticket prices were outrageous to begin with.

Goatymum · 22/11/2023 07:45

I am so pleased a fellow mumsnetter was your fairy godmother - amazing!!

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 22/11/2023 07:45

@Globules I think it was the way they did the sale that allowed that. I understand it was meant to help balance demand (which worked - servers didn't crash) but it meant if you only wanted 1/2 tickets you could 'try' for a date you maybe didn't really want in case the one you did want you couldn't get.

If you were lucky both times you then ended up with more tickets.

SoSad44 · 22/11/2023 07:45

she is doing a TON of dates all over Europe. It might even be cheaper to fly to Lisbon or Stockholm or Vienna and buy tickets for those gigs. I haven’t researched this but might be worth looking into if your DD can travel.

Numberalphablock · 22/11/2023 07:47

@SoSad44 i looked in to that but her insurance even for 2 nights is more than the tickets 🙈

Ifellasleep · 22/11/2023 07:48

I wouldn’t… I would get her an acrylic ticket made up for a night away with mum in a hotel and dinner with a surprise event. If you get tickets that’s the surprise, or you book theatre (lion kind access tickets are brilliant seats btw) or another concert.

stayathomer · 22/11/2023 07:54

Another for no way- and this is from someone who nearly did the same and then didn’t even get close to Coldplay tickets despite actually following their newsletter et for the last few years! The ticket thing nowadays is a mess, I feel sorry for real fans (I’ve seen Coldplay three times, chances of my kids ever getting to see them are low)

gotomomo · 22/11/2023 07:57

Don't, instead explain they have sold out, but you will look near the concert to see if there's people selling them (for a reasonable price). Remember there's actually a huge number of tickets sold so some people will be at short notice unable to attend, and I suspect the prices will drop

Jk8 · 22/11/2023 08:12

Even if you can get them on the resale market there's no garuntee they will be seats near each other/in a good spot/authentic/not already sold onto somebody else by the time you expect them to arrive. It's 100% not just a cost issue & 100% not the same as buying tickets for other things you might like to see if their availability having already 'gifted' her the fake tickets. Just be honest. You'll keep looking for tickets but no promises & she needs to pick another gift for the day

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 22/11/2023 08:30

Don't do it. Tickets are very hard to come by.

Floopyfloop · 22/11/2023 08:35

We had similar issues with Harry Styles tickets. My daughter has loved him since she was 3 and she is now 12.

I got into the queue the second it opened and I was 27,000 in the queue for the whole of the uk. The queue went up to 150,000 waiting online.

Despite this, when I got through all the reasonable tickets were gone and all that was left was £600 odd Harry’s place pods.
I think all the decent price tickets must have gone to touts as every venue was sold out of reasonably priced tickets.

The tour organisers are taking the fun out of live music.

I gave up and went down town, when I discovered girls in a shop whooping that they had got tickets for a second day that was announced 3 hours later. I was devastated.

As it happened, a friend of the family had booked some for her niece as a birthday gift and the niece has also bought better tickets herself!

We paid for them and I very much knew and trusted this lady. However we had to wait for the transfer window which was excruciating as it was not until 2 weeks before!

TheSpikySpinosaurus · 22/11/2023 08:40

No way! Let her go to the Taylor Swift film with some friends instead. I know it's not the same, but you can't afford the tickets, you don't know if they will even be available, and you'd be putting yourself under such pressure.

TheSpikySpinosaurus · 22/11/2023 08:41

Agapornis · 22/11/2023 01:39

If she's sick, you could try Make A Wish or similar charities. They can often wangle things us commoners can't.
P.s. don't give a ticket that may or may not materialise for Christmas, it's not fair on her or the other children.

Edited

This is a good idea.

The expensive ones are VIP packages (standard seats with a crappy box of merch as an excuse to bump up the price). Regular tickets weren't anywhere near £600, resale is capped at those prices via the official channels so there will likely be some available nearer the time for a more reasonable price.

Peablockfeathers · 22/11/2023 08:47

It's a long shot OP but you could tweet Taylor Nation, they do sometimes help facilitate stuff (although of course only a tiny chance may as well try for the sake of a tweet).

PinkRoses1245 · 22/11/2023 08:53

Please don’t. If you don’t manage to get them, she will be so disappointed and that is such a difficult emotion to handle, as a child.

cordelia16 · 22/11/2023 08:56

penjil · 22/11/2023 02:00

I suppose that to keep our the riff-raff.

If you were a true Swifty, you'd have that code!

Anyway, could you take her to see the Eras film? Or have you already done that?

Not sure that's true. I'm not a Swiftie at all, but I got a Tickemaster code. I signed up bec my niece asked me to, to maximise the chance of getting on the waitlist. I actually was put on the waitlist, then offered the chance to buy tickets last week (for the 19 and 20 Aug Wembley shows). When I entered the queue, there were 18,000+ ppl ahead of me. By the time I got in, the only tickets left were the £600 package tickets (which I didn't buy). Absolutely insane.

TheClitterati · 22/11/2023 09:04

Have you taken her to the TS film of the Eras concert? Released in October

volunteersruz · 22/11/2023 09:07

another one saying ONLY BUY THROUGH THE OFFICIAL RESALE agencies...anyone offering via any other means is a SCAM!

Itha · 22/11/2023 09:29

YABVU

Buying Taylor Swift tickets, even on resale, is almost impossible. I’ve tried!! Your plan is extremely unlikely to succeed.

Please don’t excite then disappoint your daughter like this.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 22/11/2023 09:33

It can be done, but go on Twickets instead nearer the time and you will only pay face value - it's their policy.

OrigamiOwl · 22/11/2023 09:45

I've just looked at Ticketmaster and there are tickets for 20th of August on there (£662 each tho!)

I didn't get an access code either.
