How can Mumsnetters

Is it possible for Mumsnetters to discuss male users of this site without breaking the Talk Guidelines? Or is this a forbidden topic?

There have been men on this site for many years. Why is it now an issue?

idealgift · 21/11/2023 16:09

BIWI · 21/11/2023 16:07

I haven't a clue what you're on about @SheSaidHummingbird. Why don't you just spit it out? What - exactly - do you feel you aren't able to discuss here that you used to?

quite simply

she wants to be able to bitch freely and for mumsnet not to delete

that is the long and short of it

SheSaidHummingbird · 21/11/2023 16:05

@Flickersy Not wanting to hound. I want to use this website, as I used to, safe in the knowledge that most threads are genuine and not a deliberate attempt to create news fodder.

That has nothing to do with make or female. There are women newshounds as well as male, and there are men and women posting made up nonsense.

SheSaidHummingbird · 21/11/2023 16:09

@BIWI not about specific users or specific threads. Of course men are welcome, but there has been a number of posts where the mums of Mumsnet are devalued and I don't feel welcome here anymore
But if I have something to say about that, my comment is deleted.

That's not unique to MN.

The moment you post something on the internet you lose control of what people do with it.

If you're not happy to do that, don't post.

Hereforthebunfights · 21/11/2023 16:10

Even if men were not supposed to be here, how would you tell? Its not like it can be verified.

Your post won't be deleted unless it's against Talk Guidelines. What have you been saying?

SheSaidHummingbird · 21/11/2023 16:11

@pickledandpuzzled Absolutely, yes, you're right. And it seems I can make comments about female trolls but not about make trolls. That's the point I'm trying to express without my comments being deleted.

OP posts:
BIWI · 21/11/2023 16:12

Ah - so you've been troll hunting. That's definitely not allowed.

And there's nothing new about trolls on MN. Male or female.

If you have a problem with specific posters you think are trolling, then you report them to MNHQ. How is that difficult?

Hereforthebunfights · 21/11/2023 16:13

Did you start that thread telling all the men to go away? There was nothing in there about trolls.

SheSaidHummingbird · 21/11/2023 16:13

@Flickersy Yes, always been the case. But it used to be the odd thread here and there. Now, I can't be sure of the authenticity of any thread.

OP posts:
Ibizabar · 21/11/2023 16:14

I'm not keen on most of the men on MN. Especially the ones who only use the Sex topic.

SheSaidHummingbird · 21/11/2023 16:14

@Hereforthebunfights If I'd addressed the male trolls, it still would've been deleted.

Why are you blaming men for this?

SheSaidHummingbird · 21/11/2023 16:15

@Ibizabar I don't think we're allowed to say this.

Don't be daft there's probably one man for every 100 women, at best.

Well I said it. I also ignore any thread started by a man.

Well surely you know that not everyone is who they are on the internet. One can never be sure of the sex of the person with whom one is interacting on here.

SheSaidHummingbird · 21/11/2023 16:18

@BIWI I always report and never engage. My issue is that, at some point, this website will be a magnet for people starting false threads and will no longer be a safe site for me to go to for advice, help, guidance, socialising.

OP posts:
SerpentEndBench · 21/11/2023 16:19

This site has never ever been a safe place. Never.

idealgift · 21/11/2023 16:20

You don’t seem at all clear about what you want and why you want it

A campaigner… you are not

SheSaidHummingbird · 21/11/2023 16:20

@SerpentEndBench There are many who identify themselves as males, so I presume they are males.

OP posts:
TheJabberwocky · 21/11/2023 16:20

So before this gets deleted @SheSaidHummingbird , what do you want? For no men in here? That’s not possible, so it would have to be no men to admit they are men?

Woukdnt you rather men found community too? Especially for those who come on and ask support with regards to a female partner as you are helping them in the long run? (Potentially)

Maddy70 · 21/11/2023 16:20

It's a public forum. It isn't exclusively women why would it be?
You can discuss men (most threads do actually). What you can't do is troll hunt as that's breaking the terms of useage

justonemoreuser · 21/11/2023 16:21

So you're linking the male users to trolling, or possibly sex topics?

What would you suggest is done?

The site owners have put right at the top of every page "by parents for parents". This isn't a democracy, and they've made their overall position quite clear - they support all parents, even if the emphasis is on mums.
