To think that this is odd - Vinted

Mustbeafullmoon · 21/11/2023 13:04

I've been using Vinted for a while now. Sold loads, bought a few things too.

I saw something I was interested in and I asked for another photo. Let's say it was a jumper and I wanted to see a photo of the back.

Seller didn't respond for 2 days. Ok fine, she replied saying that she'd get a photo. I waited until the following evening, still no photo.

At which point I thought sod it, I'll take a chance as I do want the item. I made an offer. It was £30 and I offered £25 so not a ridiculous offer I don't think. She's completely ignored.

Should add I know sellers don't have to accept an offer, but isn't it manners to decline.

I'd have probably paid or made a higher offer.

I always decline if I don't want to accept an offer.

I don’t think it’s that odd. I rarely respond to requests for more photos as generally those people don’t end up buying anyway (but I would also always put up a photo of the front and back) I don’t always decline offers either if I just want the listed price, declining tends to encourage the person to send more offers

Maverickess · 21/11/2023 13:11

I've just sold my first item on Vinted and struggled with the messaging on there at first until I found my way around - I unintentionally ignored someone because I thought I'd replied but hadn't! I did message properly when they prompted me and apologised though! Because as you say it's only polite.

So if they're new then may not be intentional maybe?

NonSequentialRhubarb · 21/11/2023 13:15

It sounds like she just doesn't check the site that much. I don't get email notifications for offers or messages, only for sold items so I wouldnt see any messages until I happen to go back to the site.

I put the items up for what I want to get for them and don't generally accept offers, so I don't come back to the website regularly.

Precipice · 21/11/2023 13:16

It's not bad manners to not reply just to decline. No obligation arises on the seller to communicate with you just because you're sending lower offers. There's no way to turn these off on Vinted and they're an irritation. If people don't say that they're open to offers, you can't blame them for not relying to those they get.

Mustbeafullmoon · 21/11/2023 13:17

She hasn't declined though. Just left the offer pending.

sweetpickle23 · 21/11/2023 13:19

If they haven't responded/declined I think common sense says they haven't seen the message. I don't always check mine every day.

OrigamiOwl · 21/11/2023 13:20

When did you put the offer in?

I've had buyers sending me follow up messages about why I hadn't accepted/declined their offer within 10 minutes of them making the offer 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fatlegs46 · 21/11/2023 13:20

I’ve left offers before. £5 off a £30 item is about 17%, I always accept 10% will often go to 15% but not more- unless it’s had no interest/ been hanging around for a while.

Maybe the seller is leaving it for a few days to see if a better offer arrives before deciding on yours?

PoppyOrange · 21/11/2023 13:20

I sell quite a bit on Vinted. I rarely respond to questions as I find people who buy just buy and don't ask questions. If you'd wanted it enough you'd have just bought it and paid the price asked.

CremeEggSupremacy · 21/11/2023 13:21

If I leave an offer pending it means I don’t want to negotiate with that person or encourage further offers. Either way it’s obviously a no.

Finlesswonder · 21/11/2023 13:21

I don't reply to people who make such dumb offers...Like if you can afford £25 you can afford £30, are you really going to get into some boring back and forth with me over a fiver? £20 in this example I'd respond to.

Crunchymum · 21/11/2023 13:22

But surely declining gives the same message?

Mustbeafullmoon · 21/11/2023 13:22

I made the offer over 24 hours ago so would have thought the seller would have simply declined.

ThewaytoAmarula · 21/11/2023 13:23

Yes I think it's a bit rude/odd not to reply or to at least decline the offer.

Another thing I find odd (and bloody annoying) as a seller is when people ask "Is this available?" I reply "yes, would you like it?" and then... silence. It's happened a few times now, just WHY?!

CremeEggSupremacy · 21/11/2023 13:23

Crunchymum · 21/11/2023 13:22

Sadly not. I find if I decline £25 on a £30 item where I want the £30, then I get a further offer of £26, £28, whatever. It’s annoying so I don’t engage at all.

Mustbeafullmoon · 21/11/2023 13:24

If you want to make a counter offer you can. Otherwise you simply decline 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
CremeEggSupremacy · 21/11/2023 13:24

People don’t have to respond if they don’t want to, it’s really not a big deal

trampoline123 · 21/11/2023 13:25

It sounds like they've been busy and not been on, sometimes I don't notice messages for a few days.

WomensRightsRenegade · 21/11/2023 13:25

What’s really weird is when sellers just never send the item. I bought a jacket recently and it was just never sent so I got a refund. Why bother taking photos etc and listing it if you can’t be arsed to take the money and send it?

The guy’s reviews are full of people saying ‘item never sent’ but as it was interspersed with the odd happy customer I took a chance. Why would you do this repeatedly?!

PoppyOrange · 21/11/2023 13:26

It sounds like you're a chancer who is one of the reasons I find Vinted quite frustrating.

WindTheMummyUpWindHerBackAgain · 21/11/2023 13:26

I have to say I usually ignore requests for extra photos, or people asking for exact measurements etc. Mainly because once I’ve taken photos and put the item on vinted I store it away until it’s sold and I can’t be bothered going and getting it back out, taking more photos and measuring it when the person usually never even responds back.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 21/11/2023 13:26

I always respond to offers becuase I always list for about 40% more than I expect to sell it for so i have room for negotiatio . Weirdly this time round I have had no offers and lots of sales.

I wouldn't just ignore an offer, it's rude. She may not have seen it yet though. Or she hasn't taken the picture yet so is avoiding your messages.

A chancer 🤣 yeah ok.

PoppyOrange · 21/11/2023 13:28

If you want the item enough to write a thread on MN then just pay the full price the vendor wants and don't ask dumb questions about extra photos.
