To think that this is odd - Vinted

I've been using Vinted for a while now. Sold loads, bought a few things too.

I saw something I was interested in and I asked for another photo. Let's say it was a jumper and I wanted to see a photo of the back.

Seller didn't respond for 2 days. Ok fine, she replied saying that she'd get a photo. I waited until the following evening, still no photo.

At which point I thought sod it, I'll take a chance as I do want the item. I made an offer. It was £30 and I offered £25 so not a ridiculous offer I don't think. She's completely ignored.

There are masses of fake accounts with copied photos on Vinted so no reply and the inability to add photos would be a red flag for me - does the account otherwise look real?

On the other hand I have been the seller in this sort of interaction and simply missed the message or seen it while out/busy and forgotten to respond. I'd message again to nudge them if you haven't already and then just suck it up and either buy or not buy.

If you want the item enough to write a thread on MN then just pay the full price the vendor wants and don't ask dumb questions about extra photos.

How is it a dumb question to ask for a photo of the back of an item of clothing you might buy.

Gosh I can see that there are some extremely rude people about 🙄

I don’t get notifications for some types of messages. So only notice if I’ve gone on to post something I’ve sold.

it’s not my setting’s either, Vinted can’t sort it out either and apparently it affects quite a few people who’ve sold for a while.

(and you’ve reminded me to go and check my messages).

PoppyOrange · 21/11/2023 13:32

@Mustbeafullmoon

If it's £30 on Vinted it must have been circa £150 new. So you're getting it for next to nothing. Surely you can tell what the back will be like. I would have ignored you too.

amylou8 · 21/11/2023 13:34

I don't respond to requests for more photos...especially the ones that want to see it worn...it's vinted not only fans Gary.

I'll ignore low ball offers, but £5 off £30 is reasonable, so I'm surprised she's not accepted that. Maybe she's has a couple of other higher ones and is waiting to see if they pay.

StardustGiraffe · 21/11/2023 13:38

I think it's a bit weird not to send the picture of the back but then that could easily be forgotten if someone is busy. Someone bought an item from me a couple of days ago and I only remembered this morning that I've got to send it, I've been busy with work and 14 month old🙈

However, I rarely respond to offers as it's usually an item for £4 or something and I get an offer through for £3.50 - just seems pointless.

NeedANewPhone1 · 21/11/2023 13:38

Oh, and asking for a photo of the other side of the item is hardly unreasonable! If a seller has only shown the front then there's sometimes a reason for that! I would think that poor/limited photos will almost always lead to questions from buyers.

Lunarpsychobitch · 21/11/2023 13:43

A chancer... or maybe someone genuinely struggling with the cost of living 🤔

Maybe the seller is also 'genuinely struggling with the cost of living'?

Absolutely fine to ask for measurements and photos - are you trying to sell this item or not? Why should someone buy something like a shot in the dark, when basic information about the item is missing?

Tuftytoo · 21/11/2023 13:47

Not rude. Maybe they are waiting to see if it sells and if not will take you up on offer at a later date hence not declining and loosing offer. I do this all the time

ApoodlecalledPenny · 21/11/2023 13:51

I assume they’ve listed at slightly more than they want, given the whole ability to offer thing, so almost always offer less. It’s kind of true that you might get a bargain if it’s on for £30 and originally cost £150, but just as likely it’s on for £30, originally cost £60, and may have been shrunk in the wash.

nutsnutspistachionuts · 21/11/2023 13:52

Are you one of my buyers?

If so what I’d like to say to you is this:
If you can afford the brand new COS winter coat (RRP £150) for £28, you can afford it for £32. I have already provided 5 pics including front, back, details and one of the washing instructions. If that’s not enough for you and you would still really like to see a mirror selfie of me wearing it, you’ll have to wait until I get a spare moment, when that will be is anyone’s guess and not my biggest priority.

BuyStuff · 21/11/2023 13:56

Love that nuts! I post on Vinted to make a little extra money. I have a busy life and sometimes I don’t check my account or emails for a couple of days. Not being rude but it’s not a priority for me.

Moltenpink · 21/11/2023 14:02

Sometimes I respond to an offer to accept it after a few days if it hasn’t sold at full price

Harsh but true! 😄

ActDottie · 21/11/2023 14:06

I think you’re overthinking this

She May only look at her Vinted every few days or something or may have just not looked at it for a while

botheredand · 21/11/2023 14:38

Maybe they just don't want a counter offer from you, which is what people usually get after declining an offer. Or they don't check vinted, or they cba to reply. It's vinted, not a boyfriend, it's okay if they don't want to speak to you!

Siha345 · 21/11/2023 14:39

24 hours isn’t very long. She is probably at work, doesn’t have notifications on or is getting lots of offers. If you can’t afford £30 then move on, if you really want it then buy it.

Vinted is not really a serious selling app, I have a trendy, tagged, not inexpensive top up for £3 to get rid and several people have offered £1. I don’t have time to decline all the cheeky offers, I only check the app once a day.

Siha345 · 21/11/2023 14:41

Oh yes as someone said she also might be waiting a couple of days in case it sells for full price. The vibe is a car boot sale not a craft fair

I think people offer that low because a £3 top becomes £7-8 after postage. It's worth them trying to knock a quid or two off.

This

PrudeyTwoShoes · 21/11/2023 14:48

It definitely sounds like you're expecting a little much. I (very rarely) get requests for additional photos/info but when I do it can take a bit of time to sort when life is busy. Maybe the item is packed away in storage up in the loft so it's not as easy as just snapping a photo? Maybe they're busy generally speaking - work, kids, chores and just haven't had chance to reply or not been on the site recently.

Snorkmaidenn · 21/11/2023 14:55

I don't think asking for an extra pic of back is out of order. It may have pulls or something else that you wouldn't like. I ordered a top from Vinted and it had a hole in it that wasn't described. It was a lot of effort getting a refund. It was also bobbly. Thirty pounds is still a lot of money to take risks with.

CaptainJackSparrow85 · 21/11/2023 14:56

It sounds like you're a chancer who is one of the reasons I find Vinted quite frustrating.

It’s a bartering site. Like eBay is an auction site. People make offers based on what the item is worth to them and you’re free to decline. I find people who don’t understand that and think they’re running their own little online shop quite frustrating.

Corknut · 21/11/2023 14:56

I buy and sell on Vinted a lot. Like others say it’s practically a given now that things will go for £5/£10 less than asking price. It’s also normal to be ignored. Some people are
on the app all the time other dip in and out. If you want it then pay full price otherwise I’d just try and search again. In this waiting period it’s likely it will sell if it’s a popular item and you will lose out. Unless it’s really niche things pop up all the time so just keep searching
