To think that this is odd - Vinted

I've been using Vinted for a while now. Sold loads, bought a few things too.

I saw something I was interested in and I asked for another photo. Let's say it was a jumper and I wanted to see a photo of the back.

Seller didn't respond for 2 days. Ok fine, she replied saying that she'd get a photo. I waited until the following evening, still no photo.

At which point I thought sod it, I'll take a chance as I do want the item. I made an offer. It was £30 and I offered £25 so not a ridiculous offer I don't think. She's completely ignored.

When was she last online? If she's been online recently she's more than likely seen your offer and is either thinking it over (waiting for a better one!) or doesn't realise she would decline it if she doesn't want to accept it.
If she hasn't been online recently then she's busy elsewhere I guess.

It's not something that's worth hundreds. It's second hand and was probably £60 new. The reason I was interested in it was because it's no longer available in shops.

The back of the garment is relevant, I certainly haven't asked for a photo of anyone wearing it 🙄 I asked if there was a photo of the back as it was relevant to the design.

I'm not a chancer fgs 🙄 it's a used item selling site. I rarely buy anything but have sold heaps of stuff. It's quite normal for people to make offers.

Yes you could say why start a thread over a second hand top. But equally the item has been listed for weeks and hasn't sold it seemed a bit odd

@Mustbeafullmoon I don't think you're a chancer but the seller probably does and that's why they haven't responded. It's the luck of the draw. I've read a lot of forums about Vinted and that plus my own experience means I avoid people who ask for measurements or more photos, and also people who start making offers. £5 off is not a 'bad offer' per se but I'd be inclined to ignore it if I only want to sell my item for the listed price, because I wouldn't want to start haggling over £1 which is what typically ends up happening. It doesn't sound like you are that type but if you sell a lot on Vinted like I do and perhaps the seller does too, you tend to weed people out perhaps unfairly, but that's up to them if they want to lose your sale. I do think not putting a photo of the back of the jumper is stupid, but I'd also find it strange if I ignored a request for a photo and then someone made an offer - I'd then be thinking you might be trouble later on e.g. trying to return the item or get a refund whilst also keeping it etc. Unfortunately there's a LOT of people like that on Vinted.

Yes I can see from this thread that people view Vinted etiquette differently.

This would have been only the third thing I'd have bought. I wanted to see the back because some of these tops have a tie waist thing and it wasn't clear from the photo.

I sell a lot and personally I put up lots of photos, I don't mind giving further details or declining offers. There's always a bit of a risk with used items so I get that people will want to pay less.

If you wanted to know if it had a tie waist you'd be better off just sending a message asking that. Rather than asking for a photo which is way more hassle for the seller!

Vinted is casual, if you want it buy it and the seller may or may not actually send it 😉 very hit and miss but that's all part of the fun.

Don't spend more than you can afford to lose is the only rule really.

£60 brand new and now £30 second hand on vinted? I think not! This isn’t the vinted I know.

Cakeorchocolate · 22/11/2023 12:40

Enlightening to see the responses from some of the sellers on here.

I've only used vinted a little. I try to be fairly thorough with the photos I add but some people clearly can't be arsed.
1 thing I was interested in was just listed as a top and a single photo of it in the packet. Folded in a square in the packaging. So you couldn't even tell if it was long or short sleeved, never mind the style. No wonder it's still on there months later.

I don't think asking for measurements or extra photos or details is unreasonable.

Expecting a quick response is a little though. You never know what's going on in someone's life.

I can't understand all these sellers that say they wouldn't bother to respond, it's just courtesy to reply. It is annoying when you do reply and the person doesn't bother to reply back either way though.

SuzieBishop · 22/11/2023 12:44

You can see when the person was last on so you can check and see if she's seen it or not.
I sometimes don't reply to offers because I get alot of cheeky ones - like offering way below what I've put it on for.

Raingo · 22/11/2023 13:09

I once had someone accept my offer 8 months after I offered.
I no longer wanted item so I just ignored.
Sometimes I decline offer, sometimes ignore. Because I often get a sob story.
