Teacher exposing breast.

This sounds bizarre and I think it is really. Dsd is in year 6 and they are having the sex ed programme. Anyway, this week it was all about pregnancy and birth. The teacher has just returned from maternity leave and imo went into way too much detail for 10 and 11 year olds(discussing stitches etc. dsd was very intrigued, arriving home with a lot of questions!!) but most astonishingly showed them her breast to explain how the baby feeds. Now this is nothing new to dsd per se who has seen me bf all year but I was amazed. Dh wanted to go in and complain today and I received a couple of phone calls asking me to sign a petition "We think that this teacher needs further training etc." Quite moderate in tone really. AIBU or was this teacher totally wrong?

Would look really bizarre on a lesson plan. Under resources to be used: my left breast

Beetroot · 12/03/2008 19:52

come on out you come and confess

scottishmummy · 12/03/2008 19:53

yep i was wondering about the lesson plan too
Location- Science room
Subject - Sex Education
Purpose- Titillation
Written Format- Nah just get my tit out

Mumcentreplus · 12/03/2008 19:59

...probably not well thought out...but fcol they could see a pair for 20p!

scottishmummy · 12/03/2008 20:02

it could not have been as bad as this pair o tits

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/03/2008 20:06

So what were her norks like then? Any good?

Blandmum · 12/03/2008 20:26

scottoshmummy, and what on earth would have extension material consisted of , eh?

and was it just differentiaition by outcome?

She could have covered numeracy by 'guess the cup size' I suppose

alfiesbabe · 12/03/2008 20:34

Well I'm getting my knockers out tomorrow to demonstrate gravity. My Year 7s'll love it

alfiesbabe · 12/03/2008 20:36

Kinaesthetic learning.... they can all have a squeeze

scottishmummy · 12/03/2008 20:43

LOL adds a whole new dimension to hands on touchy feeley teaching

tori32 · 12/03/2008 20:59

I agree that it would not have been unreasonable had she brought the baby in and fed infront of the class. I think it was unreasonable without actually feeding IYSWIM.

2GIRLS · 12/03/2008 23:18

Even if she had the baby with her no way should she have fed it in front of her year 6 class!!!!!! I'm all for breastfeeding anywhere you like, but not a teacher in front of her class.
And the fact that she did this is just bizarre and I can't think of ant reason why she would or should have done it.
If they had asked about feeding the baby what was wrong with her telling them about breastfeeding.
It's just wrong on so many levels.

milkgoddess · 12/03/2008 23:27

i think it would of been great if she was bf her baby, what a wonderful example that would set to the children.

I find the OP hard to believe. But I guess that's because I find it hard to believe a teacher would do something so wrong and so pointless and so silly.

2GIRLS · 12/03/2008 23:40

Yes breastdfeeding is a great thing but a teacher cannot just do it in front of her class

ah poor judy it all just slipped and it was a few mins before Hubby told her, whilst everyone tittered

it was some award ceremony and apparently Richard quipped "if you give us another award she will show you both"

2GIRLS · 12/03/2008 23:52

Er, am I missing something here!
Like I said, am all for bfing, but I would have thought that if a teacher was going to demonstrate bfing a baby to year 6 students the school would have to inform the parents first. There may be cultural objections.
And I don't think it's appropriate for the TEACHER to bare her breast for breastfeeding, it would have been more appropriate if someone was brought in for the demonstration.

But as it is, all she has done is flash the chi;dren in her class, regardless of what she meant or what she thought they would learn from it.

And surely, at that age they wouldn't really need to actually see a real live breast, I would think they would have a good idea of what on elooked like. She could have explained how the milk is produced, and that is what breasts are for without actually showing them her boob.

Beetroot · 13/03/2008 07:56

breast feeding infront of anyone is fine

Beetroot · 13/03/2008 07:56

Getting your norks out to a bunch of 11 year olds is not

Janni · 13/03/2008 10:37

I keep thinking about this teacher. She made a mistake, a big error of judgment but unless she's a very poor teacher anyway I really don't think she should be sacked. It sounds to me like she got carried away with enthusiasm for her subject given that she's a new mum. Those kids will not have been corrupted and in the future some of them might actually remember what a breast is actually designed for, who knows?

On this thread there's a distinct feel of women sitting around the guillotine, knitting.
