Teacher exposing breast.

This sounds bizarre and I think it is really. Dsd is in year 6 and they are having the sex ed programme. Anyway, this week it was all about pregnancy and birth. The teacher has just returned from maternity leave and imo went into way too much detail for 10 and 11 year olds(discussing stitches etc. dsd was very intrigued, arriving home with a lot of questions!!) but most astonishingly showed them her breast to explain how the baby feeds. Now this is nothing new to dsd per se who has seen me bf all year but I was amazed. Dh wanted to go in and complain today and I received a couple of phone calls asking me to sign a petition "We think that this teacher needs further training etc." Quite moderate in tone really. AIBU or was this teacher totally wrong?

babybore, to DEMONSTRATE bf you need a baby, not just your tit!

women can be just as sexualy odd as some men, exposing what are generally regarded as private parts of the body to young children is just as wrong as a male teacher whipping out his willy, which im pretty sure would have horrified you

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 12/03/2008 16:43

FioFio - no, was just saying I don't think it is okay even though I have a preschooler.

Greensleeves · 12/03/2008 16:44

I think the analogy with using sex organs to show how sex works demonstrates exactly why this is so sad. Sex organs are used for sex. She wasn't demonstrating something sexual, she was demonstrating what womens' breasts are meant for.

Well I don't have a child at school but I think this is very odd behaviour. So odd in fact that I would be wondering whether the children are telling the truth. I'm not saying I wouldn't believe them but I would have a quiet word with the teacher before signing any petitions to see what she says.

Cam · 12/03/2008 16:45

She will get the sack. There's no question of it.

Just trying to imagine any of the teachers in dd's school doing this............no, luckily I can't.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 12/03/2008 16:45

FioFio

That would be wrong too of course.

Blandmum · 12/03/2008 16:45

They wouldn't remember the info that she gave them about breast feeding. It would just be forever remembered as the lesson where their teacher gor her baps out!

Kids are funny like that

I've had lessons go out the window because the room smelled of flowers from the last lesson (I'm not joking!) Wipping a tit out to 11 year olds would cause them to go 'tharn' big time.

I'm going to have enough of a problem when I teach sex ed tomorrow with diagrams!

My analogy wasn't actually about using organs to show how sex works, but in a pure biology context - what buit is what and what they do. Ir the exposing of a bottom to discuss the digestive system.

Cam · 12/03/2008 16:47

Fio

YouKnowNothingOfTheCrunch · 12/03/2008 16:47

Hmm, just to be really pedantic, may I point out that willies are not simply sexual things, they actually have a use separate from sex.

So, if they were shown in their "non-sexual" biological capacity as a teaching aid, to "de-sexualise" them, would that be ok? In fact I think they have more sexual stigma attached to them than breasts do. Both are utilitarian body parts as well as sexual ones...

Will wander off now, have confused myself...

Blandmum · 12/03/2008 16:47

However much we all want breasts to be non-sexual and seen for their natural use, we live in the real world, where breasts have other uses. Sorry and all that

babybore · 12/03/2008 16:47

Jesus - I see that as a ridiculous comparison.

I don't see it as 'sexually odd'; it wasn't a discussion about sex, it was about feeding a baby. What would have been sexually off would be something like demonstrating how she likes her partner to massage her boobs or something. Now that would be inappropriate.

Hulababy · 12/03/2008 16:49

She was NOT demonstrating breast feeding. There was no baby present to be fed!

'Right class, this is my penis, and I've got it out to sho you the tip of the Urethra which is part of the urinary system'

Yup, that one would fly.

'here are my testicles, I've got them out to demonstarte the effect of a large surface area on cooling, have a fondle, cool, are they not?'

I really, really don't think that showing a bunch of 11 year olds their teacher's breast is going to de-sexualise breasts for them. Or in any way keep their mind on the subject of breast feeding.

jesuswhatnext · 12/03/2008 16:50

ok, lets get away from the sexualisation of the breast for a mo - if a teacher, male or female, was to show the class in person, how the anus worked would you be happy about it?
