Urgent help needed - drugs posted to my house

Sparklysunshine · 20/11/2023 18:22

I’ll keep it brief - package came , my address , random name not related to anyone in my house (I’m in U.K. ) had old postage label on back for an address in Canada - the surname was “postage” ..this looked to be from a previous package , basically the packaging was being re used . My address was on a declaration label stating it contained a hat . I opened package as no one in my house claimed it , an old hat , 2 odd socks and inside one of the socks a substantial amount of white powder in a bag ! Postage label says October 6th . It was on my doorstep yesterday . I want to go to the police but I’m worried someone’s going to turn up at my house looking for this . How would it end up at my house - is there such thing as a scam where it’s used my house as an address For some reason ? I just want to know why it’s here , why my address ? I am a childcare provider and have a house full of children ! Thank you for advice

@AcrossthePond55 Yes you can. I knew because I'd seen it on a drug investigation film that they were careful.

While fentanyl can be absorbed across the skin, this happens only with constant direct contact over hours and days. Still, you should avoid touching fentanyl. Skin absorption can be increased by using alcohol-based hand sanitizers, bleach, and excessive sweating.

I should have been more clear. You cannot realistically absorb a fatal dose of fentanyl through unbroken skin.

dannyufcfan · 20/11/2023 20:08

Try it on your washing next cycle and see what happens.

If it's drugs, it will be destroyed. If it's washing powder, that you got a free wash out of this ordeal. And we know that can be expensive these days.

OP has already been fingering it so if it is anthrax it is too late for her to call the police.

Xmaswomble · 20/11/2023 20:12

Well they’ll be more angry if you’ve gone to the police. Just flush it and forget about it

Frequency · 20/11/2023 20:04

It's very unlikely they have deliberately sent it to OP's address. What sense would that make? There's a very good chance they would not get it back.

Out of curiosity am I the only one whose initial reaction was oooh, free drugs! 😂

Hmm. Unidentified white powder from God knows where and God knows who? It would like playing Russian roulette.

anon2134 · 20/11/2023 20:15

Just flush it down the toilet and forget about it.

Or have a really fun weekend Grin

CrashyTime · 20/11/2023 20:18

"Not Known At This Address" - "Return To Sender", then pop it back in the post-box.

Xmaswomble · 20/11/2023 20:20

found a black cloth bag on the pavement a few years ago, Picked it up and it was obviously 'Drugs'- some sort of E or stimulant.
**
It was a Saturday, and police were out and about due to a football match.

I handed the pills to them

oh grow up

HarpieDuJour · 20/11/2023 20:20

I would report it to the police. Or HMRC.
A friend of mine found a package of heroin on the beach next to our house. He called the police straight away, but was told that if he had called Customs & Excise (as it was then). he would probably have got a reward!

Purpleraiin · 20/11/2023 20:24

Call the police. I found just over 700g of coke in my cellar the other week. First thing the police asked was how long I had been here incase the person who left it behind came back for it. Its been easily dealt with and has caused me no issues or hassle. Yours could though as someone may have had it sent to yours with the intention of collecting. There's also a possibility it was picked up on going through customs and the police are already aware of it and have been waiting for it to be in your possession so you need to call them before they end up on your doorstep

Nanaof1 · 20/11/2023 20:27

Ohthatsfabulousdarling · 20/11/2023 18:42

Please stop touching it, you have no ide what it is and 1 or 2 grains of fentanyl can kill an adult with no tolerance.
I'm not saying it's that, but you should be really cautious.

And yes, police.

Plus destroying any hopes of getting any evidence from any of it.

FFS--you should have called the police immediately. SMDH
And not put your mitts all over everything. {facepalm}

Sparklysunshine · 20/11/2023 20:28

Update : took it to the police . Very confident it was no one’s at this address so had nothing to hide . We realised by Royal Mail tracking it was sent from our home town to Canada and then back again to our address . The police seem to think it was highly unlikely it wouldn’t flag up in Canada and that it would get through customs twice so doubt it’s drugs . They said it will be sent to forensics but that we won’t be updated on what it is , they’ve taken our details but said it won’t be logged against us but will be logged as a suspicious parcel in case of further ones in the area . My son has an ex girlfriend who’s done many questionable things and it did cross our minds it could be a ploy to try to get him in trouble although they’ve not spoken in months so unsure it would even be that - and if it was fake drugs what would he even be in trouble for (also not his name on parcel so pointless ) I’ll add the puck of the contents for anyone interested

HMRC? The op has enough problems without having to listen to on hold music for hours on end 😂

Right. Instead, someone has paid postage for a box containing an old hat and 2 odd socks and even filled out a declaration label. Plus sent it back and forth from the UK to Canada.

I am sure that happens all the time 🙄 (if someone does actually know of a time that has happened, PLEASE, enlighten me)

Sparklysunshine · 20/11/2023 21:06

Yes this is exactly what has happened . I honestly don’t understand unless money was in the first package that’s then switched to drugs in the second to come back . But then how would this all come under one Royal Mail tracking label on the front ???? Unless recipient in Canada switches the contents then sends back as return to sender ????? Postage was £13 if that’s important ?
