Urgent help needed - drugs posted to my house

I’ll keep it brief - package came , my address , random name not related to anyone in my house (I’m in U.K. ) had old postage label on back for an address in Canada - the surname was “postage” ..this looked to be from a previous package , basically the packaging was being re used . My address was on a declaration label stating it contained a hat . I opened package as no one in my house claimed it , an old hat , 2 odd socks and inside one of the socks a substantial amount of white powder in a bag ! Postage label says October 6th . It was on my doorstep yesterday . I want to go to the police but I’m worried someone’s going to turn up at my house looking for this . How would it end up at my house - is there such thing as a scam where it’s used my house as an address For some reason ? I just want to know why it’s here , why my address ? I am a childcare provider and have a house full of children ! Thank you for advice

Authorities like police or royal mail won't know you've received it (if they knew they would've intercepted it already). I know someone who works at sorting office and she said they just x-ray so many parcels and swab so many, but definitely not all parcels that go through the post.

It's very likely one of your neighbours ordered it and will be round to collect soon. But it depends how much it is - is it like a few sugar sachets worth or more like 100g?! If the former, just wait a few days to see if the addressee picks it up (it is theirs after all...). If the latter, personally I'd just chuck it in the bin, but you could go to the police (who'll just chuck it in the bin).

Ohthatsfabulousdarling · 20/11/2023 18:42

Please stop touching it, you have no ide what it is and 1 or 2 grains of fentanyl can kill an adult with no tolerance.
I'm not saying it's that, but you should be really cautious.

And yes, police.

Iwuzayung · 20/11/2023 18:44

Definitely not silica gel or some other kind of dehumidifier?

user1471453601 · 20/11/2023 18:44

My daughter used to work for an organisation which, on occaision, called for her to take known drug users places in her car.

She was shown by the police how to check her car in case of drugs being stored there. She was told, if she did find anything suspicious, she must phone a particular station giving her name, the name of the organisation she worked for, details of her car ect before driving to said station. This was to ensure that if she was stopped by the police an route and the drugs were found in her possesion, she would not become a suspect.

So if you are thinking of taking the substance to the police, I'd phone them first.

MysticalMegx · 20/11/2023 18:44

Maybe it's washing powder to wash the hat and odd socks

Dizzydahlias · 20/11/2023 18:44

I would call 101 and let them know that you are driving it to them.
I wouldn’t call them asking to collect it just incase the people who sent it were told.

BorisIsACuntWaffle · 20/11/2023 18:55

Take to police station. Ask to speak in private

hurtingheart19 · 20/11/2023 18:59

A weirdly similar thing has happened to me recently… and they did turn up and went to the neighbour asking for their parcel as Royal Mail took a photo of their door when dropping off so if that has happened they will know it was delivered. If they do you can say you sent it back as the recipient wasn’t known at that address.

I wonder how the last identical thread like this ended. I'll try and dig it up for you.

SerendipityJane · 20/11/2023 19:00

Take it to your MP. I'm sure they'll know what to do with it.

LNY1986 · 20/11/2023 18:28

What drugs and how much?

Be prepared for the police to turn against you and search your house upside down and inside out on a warrant (As in ripping up floorboards, back of electrical switches, under insulation etc)

Eh?

viques · 20/11/2023 19:02

Hope it’s not anthrax…….

MustBeNapTime · 20/11/2023 19:02

Just log it with 101 and ask them what you should do. It might depend on what force area you are in. They may come and collect it or they may ask you to take it to a police station. Either way, log it sooner rather than later. They won't come and bash your door down as a suspect, suspects don't ring the police and tell them they've received packages of white stuff..!

morbidd · 20/11/2023 19:03

Can you take a photo for us of the items and packaging? Would seem so strange to send drugs in the post.

WestSussexWitch · 20/11/2023 19:04

Double wrap it and bin it. I certainly wouldn’t be going to the police and bringing them to my door, I really can’t see them being too bothered anyway.

LucyAutumn · 20/11/2023 19:04

Obviously police but also, maybe time to invest in ring doorbell camera?

That would be the postie or the courier though?

Purpleshoes13 · 20/11/2023 19:13

Similar thing happened to a friend of mine. She had drugs arrive with her name on in the post.
Turned out the owner of the annexe she lived in, their son had ordered them in her name, hoping to intercept them before she got to her post.
Do you have any neighbours that might of ordered them?

KittensandPerverts · 20/11/2023 19:13

You can order any drug you like on the dark web and it arrives by post. It's as easy as ordering from Amazon as long as you pay in Bitcoin.

user1492771818 · 20/11/2023 19:15

A plumber found drugs under my bath. My housing officer wasn't surprised and means to dispose of it.

PointyBlackBoots · 20/11/2023 19:16

Throw it in the outside bin and report it to the police online, I wouldn't call 999. Police probably don't care but if they do they will follow up with you. If anyone comes looking, just say you have no idea sorry

And yes, police.

You can't absorb fenatyl through the skin and I highly doubt "1 or 2 grains" would contain enough drug to do anything to anyone if taken orally

I totally agree no one should be touching powders of unknown origin, and the fenatyl crisis is a huge problem, but there's SO MUCH scaremongering and misinfo about it
