Urgent help needed - drugs posted to my house

I’ll keep it brief - package came , my address , random name not related to anyone in my house (I’m in U.K. ) had old postage label on back for an address in Canada - the surname was “postage” ..this looked to be from a previous package , basically the packaging was being re used . My address was on a declaration label stating it contained a hat . I opened package as no one in my house claimed it , an old hat , 2 odd socks and inside one of the socks a substantial amount of white powder in a bag ! Postage label says October 6th . It was on my doorstep yesterday . I want to go to the police but I’m worried someone’s going to turn up at my house looking for this . How would it end up at my house - is there such thing as a scam where it’s used my house as an address For some reason ? I just want to know why it’s here , why my address ? I am a childcare provider and have a house full of children ! Thank you for advice

I found a big bag of mandy in the pub once in my youth. I did not hand it in to the police. I had a banger of a house party.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Helenahandkart · 20/11/2023 19:43

I would be wary of handing it to the police. If the people it was intended for did deliberately target your address, rather than it being a mistake, then they could be a bit put out if you tell them you don’t have it. Sounds like quite a small ‘amateur’ deal, rather than a massive international drug smuggling ring, but I wouldn’t want anyone kicking off on my doorstep.
I think in your situation I would put it somewhere outside my house, maybe in an outside bin or shed, or even just under a plant pot so it was safe from your kids, but accessible if loads of angry junkies come round.

You can absorb fentanyl via the skin- a friend had it prescribed in transdermal patches for a spinal issue.

Police have occasionally OD'd by handling it in USA and needed naloxone to reverse it.

A transdermal patch containing a therapeutic dose of fentanyl, in a form that can be absorbed subcutaneously, is a completely different thing to "1 to 2 grains of powder"

And the second point is an example of the hysterical misinfo about fentanyl.

As said in a PP, the crisis is real but fake claims don't help anyone!

Can fentanyl be absorbed through the skin or by touching an item or surface where it is present? It is a common misconception that fentanyl can be absorbed through the skin, but it is not true for casual exposure. The one case in which fentanyl can be absorbed through the skin is with a special doctor-prescribed fentanyl skin patch, and even then, it takes hours of exposure.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/08/10/police-touching-fentanyl/

the sheriff’s department was met with swift backlash, notably from medical experts who said its claim that the deputy nearly died of an overdose caused by touching the drug was scientifically implausible and promoted dangerous misinformation about an epidemic

For harm-reduction advocates, many of whom are medical professionals, the video is another instance of law enforcement pushing a false narrative about the risks of incidental fentanyl exposure that is in turn amplified by bad reporting in the news media and wide distribution across social media.

Anonymouslyposting · 20/11/2023 19:45

If someone did turn up asking for the package and you gave it to them knowing it contained drugs I’m pretty sure you’d be committing a crime (supply). So don’t do that.

Police is the only option, the sooner the better.

No, you can't absorb Fentanyl through the skin. Transdermal patches have substances in them to make the medication absorbable.

Police Chief Warns of Fentanyl Overdose Risk from Residue on Shopping Carts?

The likelihood of such a scenario is scientifically dubious and the law enforcement agency that made the claim has walked it back.

From the photo, it looks like MDMA (ecstasy).

Edit - oh sorry, the photo is not from the op. But anyway, those were ecstasy.

Edited

Yes, that's what I thought they were.. but without a lab test, one cannot be sure.
There are more toxic drugs than E , that had killed people around that time.

Googling found this: They were stamped 'UPS'

OP said it was a white powder, not yellow pills. It's probably coke or speed, although speed tends to be yellowish rather than white.

DNLove · 20/11/2023 18:35

If the police have been tracking the package they may very well know it's with you already. You remaining quiet will appear like you are involved. Ring the police and ask them to come and collect it. Don't drive to station without contacting them first in case you are for any reason stopped and searched on the way as they may not belive the line "I was bringing it to the police station".

This. Someone I know got arrested after getting cocaine sent to his house, not his name. It was tracked. He got 3 years.

theemmadilemma · 20/11/2023 19:52

@AcrossthePond55 Yes you can. I knew because I'd seen it on a drug investigation film that they were careful.

While fentanyl can be absorbed across the skin, this happens only with constant direct contact over hours and days. Still, you should avoid touching fentanyl. Skin absorption can be increased by using alcohol-based hand sanitizers, bleach, and excessive sweating.

Advicerequest · 20/11/2023 19:54

but years ago my friends teenage boyfriend posted drugs back to her house (her parents house) from South America and what you'd described above happened - police raid (minus ripping up the floorboards).

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 20/11/2023 19:54

It is probably Cocaine from the dark web, how much is there?

theemmadilemma · 20/11/2023 19:55

I've ordered drugs off the internet, they usually come professionally packaged. That's not what you have.

What you have sounds like a mates package, much like when mates have sent me drugs from abroad.

What you're describing would be a really ineffective way for drug dealers etc to move drugs.

Jewelspun · 20/11/2023 19:57

Have you googled the name or searched on Facebook for it?

Bloomingmagnolia · 20/11/2023 19:57

Horriblewoman · 20/11/2023 18:27

I’d definitely go to the police.

Also you don’t have any teenagers or anyone with mental health issues in the house do you? Just the mention of Canada made me think of this, albeit it’s a few months old https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2023/aug/29/canada-kenneth-law-suicide-charges

First thing that sprang to my mind.

topnoddy · 20/11/2023 19:57

And we don't even know if this powder is a drug of any sort yet

Best call International Rescue

VisionsOfSplendour · 20/11/2023 19:58

LucyAutumn · 20/11/2023 19:04

Obviously police but also, maybe time to invest in ring doorbell camera?

Won't the post office know who the postie was or the courier if delivwewd that way. I don't think that would be hard for the police to find out

Miyagi99 · 20/11/2023 19:59

morbidd · 20/11/2023 19:03

Can you take a photo for us of the items and packaging? Would seem so strange to send drugs in the post.

Drugs are sent in the post all the time.

Mamato29192 · 20/11/2023 19:59

Definitely police

Starlightstarbright2 · 20/11/2023 20:01

If they are drugs you absolutely want the police to know . Imagine if they do turn up collect drugs . They can do the same again and again

Kissmystarfish · 20/11/2023 20:03

My father was a drug squad officer. You’d be surprised at how often this happens!

they also won’t ransack your house if you’re compliant. That’s proper winding you up

thry also fix everything unless your found guilty….I don’t know of one case where they pulled someone’s house apart for no reason and then if they get it wrong they would just leave it…

It's very unlikely they have deliberately sent it to OP's address. What sense would that make? There's a very good chance they would not get it back.

Out of curiosity am I the only one whose initial reaction was oooh, free drugs! 😂

OP said it was a white powder, not yellow pills. It's probably coke or speed, although speed tends to be yellowish rather than white.

I was just showing some I'd found on a pavement before handing them in to police one Saturday.
OP could have taken a pic of the stuff she'd had arrive.

@Sparklysunshine Have you lived in your house for long?
It's very strange that a drugs 'order' would be sent to a stranger's house- one would think that they would want it 'safely' delivered, and wouldn't risk a strange house.

If you have young adults in the house {or even a partner} could they have been coerced into using your address?

All very puzzling.

I ordered something from Rajasthan , India, and that package was opened and gone through by HM Customs. {Ebay purchase!}

there was white and purple tape on the box with a 📝 note stuck to the box.

CommonOrNot · 20/11/2023 20:05

🤦🏽‍♀️ the dramas. Just bin it. Wouldn’t be getting myself caught up in a potential investigation. Especially as the culprits have your address.
