Sorry for posting here. Did try chat but no response. He spat out most of his second dose. Does that matter? As its only one dose. With the others he got most of it in.

Brings back memories of wrestling with toddlers lol.

You can try:
Pinch his nose gently shut and squirt it inside towards his cheek.

Release the nose and he should swallow the meds.

Or put sugar on top of the liquid to take the edge off.

One dose shd be fine but try make sure you get the others down him.

Bellaballs · 18/11/2023 14:47

My DS 3 was awful, we resorted to pinning him while I squoze it in. Now if he has them he takes them no problem , I always give a chocolate button after and a little you after the 10 days or whatever.

My son was giving horrific tasting ones once, they made me vomit . So just check the taste incase they are actually vile. I know none taste nice but whatever these ones he was given made me gag for 24 hours .

Think I might resort to that. Can't have him spitting another out. He's got penicillin. Smells vile. Don't blame him lol.

Star chart?
Special chocolate after?

Or hold him down like a feral cat.

Has to be done.

What sort of penicillin? The yellow stuff can be mixed in yoghurt maybe?

Flucloxacillin, no chance.

It's phenoxymethylpenicillin

Got the next dose in to him! Let's hope its like that with the rest of them

Balloonhearts · 18/11/2023 17:26

Does he still have bottles? I got some nesquik milkshake powder and doubled the amount to hide the taste of the medicine. They're never normally allowed it so drank it double quick in case I realised I'd just given them a strawberry flavoured bottle. 😂

GHSP · 18/11/2023 17:28

I had this with a slightly older child. After the first dose attempt took an hour and hysterics, I realised that I wouldn’t be able to do this another 29 times, and the pharmacy gave us capsules, which they said we could mix with Nutella. Thank God.

Oh that one is vile. My ds who possibly has ASD detests it and it’s so so hard to get him to take it even if we hold him and get it in his mouth he has some kind of superhuman ability to spit it back out across the room even if we keep him horizontal

Itrymybestyesido · 18/11/2023 17:31

Promise a chocolate treat reward if he has it or try mixing it into yoghurt

We had that one that you just can’t swallow! Was called Flucloxacillin. Poor child tried so hard to swallow it but gagged/retched everytime. Then I read that it isn’t recommended to prescribe it to children because of its taste, so I marched back to the hospital that had prescribed it and demanded amoxicillin, which they sulkily gave me.

Anyway good luck OP hope things improve

SunSparkle · 18/11/2023 17:53

I put it in half a pot of fromage frais

sparebooks · 18/11/2023 18:17

Tried everything with my DS. Put it in a yoghurt, in a smoothie- apparently they tasted too 'spicy'.

Pinned him down but he fought like a wild animal and spat it out/it came out of his nose.

Honestly we were never able to give him a course of antibiotics. One time the hospital doctors threatened to do them via IV, but luckily he recovered before it became necessary.

Exhausting.

Bellaballs · 18/11/2023 18:37

If he vomits it back up, after pinning . Call them and ask for another antibiotic.

I'm sure my son wouldn't take the one you have mentioned but will take amoxicillin and others.

Chichz · 18/11/2023 18:50

My little one isn't great at things like this. He had a course around the age of 2 and hated it til my husband wrapped him in a big blanket and shouted, "Baby burrito!". Very random - apparently he'd seen it on Youtube - but it bloody worked! I was so stressed at him missing doses that I would have tried most things. Good luck! X

No doesn't have bottles anymore. He took his last one. Hopefully he keeps it up. He's got tonsillitis and thinking it's bacterial his glands are starting to go down. So better be good boy and take it 🤣

Aw that's good! He took his last one so hope it continues

You'll need to pin him down, shoot them into the cheek, give him kisses and a cuddle and he'll be fine. Not fun for anyone but medications are essential if they're poorly 🤷‍♀️
