Sorry for posting here. Did try chat but no response. He spat out most of his second dose. Does that matter? As its only one dose. With the others he got most of it in.

Tia

My little one (13months old) had that one not too long ago (he was around 12months old) for the exact same thing too.
Can honestly say it was a battle to get it down him for the full 10 days especially as it was 4 times a day too!

We just made sure it was at least 30mins before eating and an hour after but there were times that it couldn't be done.
Nursery also missed a few doses too.

Don't really have any tricks or tips as it was such a battle and we had a few tears too but we found picking him up and giving it out a syringe in stages worked best for us.

Luckily only have to do it for 5 days. I don't blame them spitting it out tbf smells vile. He took his first dose of the day okay so hope he keeps it up. As we are thinking it's bacterial as his glands are slowly going down

You can ask the pharmacy (when they're open) what you can mix it with. They gave us tablets once which we crushed and mixed with yoghurt. That worked well.

I might go for the tablets next time. He's took the first dose okay let's hope he does the rest

My oldest was prescribed the same and they're horrible, tastes like battery acid. I ended up getting the tablets to crush and hide in a shot glass amount of super strength strawberry nesquik. The baby also got prescribed them a month later and I just refused to take the penicillin prescription, they gave the yellow flavoured alcoholic l amoxicillin instead

It smells like battery acid. He's taking it okay again atm so hope he keeps it up. He took amoxicillin no bother.

I really don't understand why they make them taste so vile! Why can't they be made to taste better so kids will take them 🤷🏻‍♀️ it really doesn't make sense!
I get the argument of not wanting overdosing but is that really likely to happen? They can make calpol taste ok so why not antibiotics?

I don't either tbf 🤷‍♀️ exactly. Its ridiculous like

He will swallow it with jelly so would be fine

That's good to know!

Hope he feels better soon OP. When my DS has had tonsillitis the antibiotics do seem to get working really quickly.

We still use the calpol syringe rather than a spoon to squirt it in… think it stays in the mouth for less time for him to taste it.

Thank you. I hope it does for my son. His glands are still up. But are slowly going down. He's on the third day. Got to take it for 5 days. Yeah we are using a syringe. No way we were going to use a spoon.

That's great he's taking it! Also, 5 days is not too bad! My son had it prescribed for 4 times a day for 10 DAYS 😫😫

Also lolling at my previous post, alcoholic amoxicillin wtf can you tell I was bf and typing with one hand 🤣

Yep. Just one spit up. And better stay that way! And may have spat up a bit on some others but got most of it in. Its too much hassle giving him it on an empty tummy. If i dont get food in to him, he'll scream the house down. Haha yep 🤣

Mix with jam and put it on toast.

Medusaismyhero · 19/11/2023 11:53

I mixed it into a little melted white chocolate (cooled) when DS had that vile antibiotic. It was the only way he'd take it - I checked with the doctor and he said it would be fine to do that.

Thats a good idea. He loves his toast. Haven't tried with jam yet but I think he'll like it

I might have to do something just to make sure he takes the rest

The antibiotics themselves taste so disgusting that there is only so much the manufacturers can do to hide the taste.

Yes unfortunately. Wish we got the amoxicillin instead. He took that one no bother.

This reminds me so much of when I was about 12, having to take sachets of antibiotic mixed in water. I don't know what it was, but it was so vile I threw it back up straight into the glass and then had to swallow it again. My sympathies are with you LO.

Smurf123 · 19/11/2023 21:21

There's a sugar free and a sugar version of phenomethyoxicillian .. the regular sugar version is better then the sugar free so might be worth checking that one if he has much left!
I found out when my 2 were prescribed it within a few days of each other last year. Dd got the sugar version first then 2 days later ds got the sugar free and point blank refused it/ gagged/ threw it back up but would take his sisters. I had to go back and get a new script and travel pharmacy's to get the one with sugar in it 🙈

Penicillin v is really bitter iirc. I think I mixed it with strawberry jam and yogurt.
try to avoid pinning if you can. Go into the bathroom with your medicine & bribe of choice explain this has to be done & sit in front of the door for as long as it takes. Don’t get angry, but we can’t go & do anything else til this goes down.
first time will take ages but it will get progressively quicker. And give him lots of sympathy cos it’s a horrid one.
you could also try a look for a dr ranj video, they have them for lots of things.

Mamato29192 · 20/11/2023 10:44

Quick question. How long does it usually take for glands to go down?
