I'm not going to watch, vote or engage with their social media. I plan to turn my back the same way he did to teenage musicians. I nothing would make me happier than seeing IACGMOFH veiwing figures collaps because of him.

So, AIBU or not?

P.S don't think he will be bothered if you watch or not.🤣 Nor anyone else.

Oh he will. He is a narcissist.
I've met him twice through work, he was like a twitchy lizard. Very strange, unlikeable man. He does fit into my "lots of the British public are a bit thick and easily swayed by the media" theory. He is a public school boy exbanker who convinced lots of people he was "one of the lads" because he was photographed drinking pints a lot.
He got his arse out yesterday. Nice.

I'm not as enthusiastic about the programme as I was a few years back, to me it has become stale but I will watch bits of it. Farage being contestant would not put me off, though I detest his politics. He's controversial and can be entertaining. However, regardless of whether we give the man air time or not, he will get his hefty fee.

Low viewing figures will fuck his media career a bit though.

HRTQueen · 21/11/2023 07:46

I don’t tend to watch it but certainly won’t while he is on it

I shall also not be watching his appearances that will now follow on Question Time and other political shows. He loves to play the pantomime villain he is a master at media manipulation and yes he can be entertaining but he is divisive and wants to be, he is an agitator not a responsible politician

Janeandme · 21/11/2023 07:55

I’ve watched about 5 mins of it twice this year. I watched the pizza challenge last night, then switched over. I find farage quite dull actually. I’d have assumed a bigger personality. He’s really very lack lustre unless talking about politics.

Yes, I agree. If he reduces viewing figures, the media and advertisers will take note. Also, Farage himself will very much care.

EasternStandard · 21/11/2023 08:33

I doubt he’ll care that much he still gets the 1.5 million either way

It looks like that last lot bumped up figures. Same MH threads on here giving extra PR

Yep. The difference between barrymore and boy George and farage, to my mind, is that Farage is an actual out and out racist - he is vocal and vicious and openly hates. Not excusing others' behaviours, but this vile toad of a man can and does influence people with his disgusting rhetoric. What he says is actual hate speech.
I'm sure others may disagree but accepting him on a popular culture platform just makes me give up on any chance we have of mending this country

Seems you are a bit full of hate yourself. To quote MN - live and let live!

curaçao · 21/11/2023 09:09

I am watching it for the first time because of him being on!

VickyEadieofThigh · 21/11/2023 09:15

x2boys · 21/11/2023 07:25

Both Boy George and Matt Hancock, were on it last year at the same time....

Yes, I know. I watched bits of episodes but gave up entirely because of Hancock.

Valerianandfoxglovesoup · 21/11/2023 09:26

I don't mind him, at least he is articulate and able to crack a joke. I am pretty disgusted by some other politicians sometimes, often the hateful, joyless left wing ones.
However, I would not watch this because of the casual disregard for nature and living creatures and because I think Ant and Dec are pretty gruesome as well.
But ultimately, it's telly. You don't have to watch it and nobody gives a flying fuck if you boycott it 🤣

Actually if enough people do boycott because of NF (don't worry, I doubt enough will) programme makers, advertisers and NF will care a great deal. Do you really think they won't?

Well.obviously the program makers will care if people boycott it ,but its usually very popular, because of controversial figures such as Nigel Farage ( irrespective.of what mumsnet posters think) so I can't see people boycotting it but Nigel Farage will get his fee anyway
Ultimately ,watch it ,don't watch it
Nobody in real life cares .

LBFseBrom · 21/11/2023 10:55

I watched it last night and Farage is doing very well so far. You don't have to like his politics to appreciate that he can be a good sport in some circumstances. He's not doing the next trial.

Valerianandfoxglovesoup · 21/11/2023 12:04

OP, you seem incredibly angry and butter. Its just a person, someone you don't even know personally. Is it really worth getting into such a lather about this, you don't actually know the man. Take care of yourself, politics arent worth losing your own health over.

He will do well in it I expect. At least people over 40 know who he is

And this is the problem. People are going to forget who and what he is, and fall for the bonhomie and all-drinking-pints-together charm. He's a grifter that has repeatedly exploited for personal gain every interest group he's claimed to support and represent.

Its reality TV people watch it for a bit of light relief ,its not a party political broadcast I don't think any body is going by to change their political beliefs by watching it .

Celeb is not reality anything. It's a gameshow. It's not the real world.

That's the problem. It makes it less likely that people will look critically at NF for what he really is. Unless he completely loses the plot and forgets the script.

Cattenberg · 21/11/2023 13:50

I never watch it, but Farage is about the only person I can’t stand to watch, or rather, listen to. It’s weird, because there are other people with views I strongly disagree with, who I’ll watch in a kind of “love-to-hate” way. But him - nope.

Farage is the only one I know. Didn’t they previously have better known people ? Not watching it this year.

GasPanic · 21/11/2023 14:12

Farage may have questionable politics, but if my life depended on someone else's ability to eat rancid shit then I'd want him on my team. He took those pizzas down like they were pub food.

The tiktok er pretty much delivered as well, although failed on the long slimy wormy thing and fermented fish. But I'd definitely want her along as backup.

PureHoney · 21/11/2023 14:14

I don’t watch it because I dislike the way they treat animals and because it’s boring. Happy also to avoid Farage.

Oh come on ,there are not many people who take him seriously anyway
Most people are perfectly capable of watching, this show for what it is

And not suddenly admiriing NF political, beleifs.
