To think Michael Gove wasn’t just out for a stroll through Victoria station last night

So Michael Gove just ‘happened’ to be strolling through Victoria station last night right through the middle of a pro- palestine sit in 🙄 How fucking stupid do they think people are?

Deflects nicely from Suella & right wing Tommy Robinson mob doesn’t it. The palestine March was mostly peaceful given the huge numbers but you always get a few dickheads on any March. The right wing mob however we’re fighting with police at the cenotaph. The state of this country.

are you blaming the victim there ? skirt too short, that type of thing ?

there is no excuse, end of story, all these so called "peaceful" protests supporting terrorist and hostage takers should be banned

I agree.

Noicant · 12/11/2023 11:28

He should be able to walk wherever he wants. Think thats a basic expectation most of us have. You don’t have to like Gove to think that.

This. The so called peaceful demonstrations are rarely completely peaceful.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 12/11/2023 14:31

I use Victoria station frequently, due to its closeness to Parliament, it is not unusual to see politicians there.

Lifeomars · 12/11/2023 14:00

I will pass your kind and thoughtful remarks on to them.

The Met have issued photos of people they want to speak to on the pro-Palestinian march due to the anti semantic, hate filled signs that they were carrying and that’s without taking into account those who attacked the police with fireworks in the evening and the dreadful behaviour outside a synagogue. You are fooling yourself if you genuinely believe that the pro-Palestinian supporters are wholly made up of “good” people. There are thugs on both “sides”.

A close family member attended and sent you lovely cuddly photos? Well they would, wouldn't they?

I attended a march yesterday in the north. It was a great mix of different ethnicities, age and religion and yes, it was peaceful and with a great number of placards. None of them calling for the deaths of Jewish people or being pro Nazi. My family suffered during German occupation. I was brought up to believe that never again was meant for the whole of the human race.
Do you want me to send you the cuddly photos I took?

He is married to Sarah Vine who works for the Mail.

@LizzieBananas actually they are divorced

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 12/11/2023 14:54

_would like to kerp Mumsnet a politics free site

Why @Patsy51 ? It’s a great place for debating current affairs - I learn loads on here

Nice Mail headline there - not exactly going in on the EDL side of things there are they.

watchingtheworldwithwoe · 12/11/2023 15:02

RudsyFarmer · 12/11/2023 10:58

I think I know what you mean. The Mail decided to run with a story that takes the focus off the EDL and potential racial hatred stoking being done by the Home Sec by focusing on an MP being jostled by the Pro Palestinian protestors? Yep. I expect you’re correct.

Very clever move! I think given how many people there seems to have been, it was largely peaceful. Half a dozen people being hunted out of hundreds of thousands isn't a large number. Also I don't think shouting shame on you is particularly vile. Our mps should have shame on them for many things including the state of our public health system. It was a ridiculous idea for MG to walk through Waterloo. It's like Beyoncé choosing to take public transport to/from her hotel just before a concert then complaining her fans mobbed her. Or a football fall sitting in the opposite stand then complaining they've been given grief.

Hey ex wifey I know we've recently been through a rather unpleasant divorce but I have an idea and I'm sure you won't begrudge me this one last favour. 😂

Sometimes the simplest explanation is true. His ministerial car was blocked due to the route and the tube is the easiest way to get around London. A lot of MPs probably use it for convenience. The Met had reported earlier in the day that protests were going to be stopped inside stations. He probably thought it would be a quicker route home.

I don't care what Gove's politics are in this instance - he should, like all politicians of any party, be able to be in a public space and use transportation without harassment.

On the off chance his only purpose was to drum up headlines they still could have been avoided by protestors not descending on him in the public space.

With two MPs already murdered in recent years it's not something that should be encouraged or condoned regardless of whether you think an MP is an evil Tory or loonie Labour etc.

Oh I completely agree that politicians shouldn’t be harassed or abused. Everyone should be able to walk through a tube station without harassment. You may be right and it may just be that this was his only route home. He is not renowned for having bags of integrity and forgive me if I’ve lost all faith in this Government doing anything that isn’t self serving. However…

It is absolutely true that the DM is massively biased and chose to ignore the more obvious headline news, regardless of whether it was a set up or not.

Patsy51 · 12/11/2023 15:14

In these very sensitive times ( I haven’t used the term Woke because I’m not sure what it means), should Mumsnet be renamed and if so what should it be called? I’m more than happy to keep things as they are.

Surely this isn't victim blaming as much as it is a sow the wind, reap the whirlwind situation. Him and his ilk have spent years whipping up a frenzy of hatred as much as they can. Pitting poor people against each other. Hating teachers, HCPs, Europeans, boat people, anyone they can think to hate anyone they can think, except the wankers in charge. Hate and polarisation are their tools, divide and conquer.

And then, yes, anyone should be able to walk through Victoria Station fine. But if people are polarised and full of hate, MG is the last person to be able to flutter his eyelashes and ask why. He knows why, he caused it.

shellyleppard · 12/11/2023 15:29

Lizzie bananas they got divorced a while ago. Apparently he was returning from a political function and couldn't get through because the roads were closed. So decided to walk instead 😳😳

If I could attach the sound of a round of applause to your post I would. You are bang on the money here. I don’t think he should have been ‘jostled’ but you are so right.

Trulywonderful · 12/11/2023 15:34

Goldshelfie · 12/11/2023 11:09

You are very unreasonable. Anyone in this country should be free to go about their business without being harassed and followed by a mob.

Yep can't stand the man but that doesn't mean he should have trouble getting a train

Even if you go down the conspiracy theory of him going there on purpose. It doesn't detract from the way people behaved. Everyone should be able to go about their business in the UK without having to avoid certain train stations etc

Also I thought them being at the train station wasn't an official protest or something notified in advance. So it is very likely he was just getting a train somewhere

Totally vile man but we can't pick and choose who gets hassled walking about in general public. Nobody should be getting hassled like that, even him.

Really?

There is an approved list of issues patients can discuss? Politics not being one of them?

There's a parenting sub-section if you want to stick to that. Or perhaps Gransnet?

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 12/11/2023 15:48

@Patsy51 I’ve been on this site for 15 years and it’s always had politics. Parents are allowed to discuss things other than parenting you know. We are people too.

Yes people should be left to do normal stuff like walk through a train station

Unhinged people will hate public figures to the extent they physically or verbally attack them, or worse as we’ve seen, but people need to rein in their threatening impulse
