To think Michael Gove wasn’t just out for a stroll through Victoria station last night

So Michael Gove just ‘happened’ to be strolling through Victoria station last night right through the middle of a pro- palestine sit in 🙄 How fucking stupid do they think people are?

Deflects nicely from Suella & right wing Tommy Robinson mob doesn’t it. The palestine March was mostly peaceful given the huge numbers but you always get a few dickheads on any March. The right wing mob however we’re fighting with police at the cenotaph. The state of this country.

Are you in France?

No.

I'm being a bit glib.

It is reasonable to assume that the words of the Home Secretary particularly on a subject that is within the brief of the Home Office represent the position of the government ie to incite hatred and other people. If Gove does not share that view he should resign.

Incitement to hatred is an offence - presumably the Met Police do not think Suella Braverman's article meets the threshold.

Half a dozen people being hunted out of hundreds of thousands isn't a large number

In addition to this group of about 150 people -

BBC

· Arrests made after officers struck by fireworks - police

Earlier we reported that officers detained a breakaway group of about 150 people from the pro-Palestinian demonstration.
· The statement from the assistant commissioner says the group of 150 were "wearing face coverings and firing fireworks".
· He says "arrests were made" after some officers were struck in the face with fireworks.

What could/would they do if it did?

Since 1986 the decision whether to prosecute or not has rested with the Crown Prosecution Service not the police.

So less than 0.1% of the people who attend the march were involved in disorder based on your figures.
Wouldn't it be a lovely thing if less than 0.1% of Tory MPs had been found to have broken the law in this parliament, or indeed that less than 0.1% of Tory MPs were being investigated for sexual offences.

Most people are arguing that the police are standing by and not arresting groups that are clearly inciting Jew hate or carrying out other crimes activity like vandalism. So it is less only X out of X is offending and more a case of why are the police not arresting all the people that are offending.

I suppose that is what happens when you have a government who have systematically defunded the police and criminal justice system for the past 13 years.
Anyway, next year we will all get the opportunity to vote for a change.

And the prisons are full so you can’t bang them up even if they’re convicted.

True but I really don't like any of the options available at the moment

Some German shadow minister that gave a brilliant speech last week. It was so grown up, logical, educated and considered it made are politicians look even more useless than normal.

Seriously I used to think Starmer being a barrister and ex head of crown prosecution was going to turn out great compared with what we are used too. Oh how disappointing I am. Plus still a bit worried about voting Labour again in case Corbyn's lot rise up and take over or something

My husband now votes Green but was liberal democrat. Both votes seem a little wasted to me

A very good point. Lets not stop to consider whether prisons that are overflowing, and understaffed actually achieve anything as far as public safety is concerned, since there is little to no chance for prisoners to have education or attend other courses. Indeed that actually contributes to the overcrowding problems, because if it is a requirement for a prisoner to attend a particular course before they are released, and there is no opportunity for them to do the course though no fault of their own, then they remain in prison.

Most the offenders on these marches need some anti racism education rather than locking up. A judge could hand out enrolment to a course of some sort. Also get them to do community service cleansing graffiti up if they are vandals etc

@derxa and @Clavinova any developments on why you think it acceptable for a 56year old to have an illegal birthday party and then lie about it in parliament?

Why wouldn’t it be, if all these people are supposedly peace loving and as sensible as they claim to be?

Hear hear...and of course as Islam claims to be! Peaceable what a hoot!
