Do you know anyone who considers a wet sink ' messy ' ?

And has to wipe it dry after each use ? We are talking kitchen sink, as well as bathroom sink ?

Are you like this ?

My mother is like this and it drives me insane, as she gets mad if you haven't completely dried the sink after each use.

Of course, food in the sink is gross. A dirty sink is gross, but a sink with just some left over water drops in it ? It's a bit much, surely ?

Or is this a common thing ?

It's really not, when I'm terminally ill and always freezing as I'm well below the normal BMI and have to get 6 pints of blood every 3 months due to constantly losing it

Well that's a different situation entirely in that case.

Changednamesforthis22 · 11/11/2023 22:44

It takes 2 seconds with a tea towel to just wipe around the kitchen sink when you've finished washing up.
Drying a shower or bath after every use is a different level entirely!

You need Method shower spray. Game changer. Just a few squirts on the glass after each shower and IT NEVER NEEDS CLEANING!! (apart from the conditioner gloops of my messy child.)

Oh yes Twillow Method shower spray is briliant. I picked this tip up from Mumsnet a while ago. Definitely recommend it to others.

bathroomcupnoard · 11/11/2023 22:58

I dry around the sink but not at the bottom. It drains away in seconds. But I do dry the shower. I use the window vacuum on the sides and the bottom. Takes no time at all

mewkins · 11/11/2023 23:01

I'm sure I read an interview with a famous artist , maybe a rapper, once who said that if his date didn't dry off the sink after use then that was the end of any relationship. I thought how strange. Now it seems like other people think the same 😁

HaveALaff · 11/11/2023 23:07

My mum and dad are like this! I have no idea how they both worked full time and raised 5 kids. No idea.

Some people on this thread definitely need hobbies...

Or a dishwasher.

FiveAndSeven · 11/11/2023 23:14

Depends on if my kitchen sink is 114, 120 or 122 grade stainless steel.
I've never dried any sink, bath or shower.
Nor am I ever likely to.

You'll be telling me next that emptying and drying the inside of the kettle after each use is the norm next!

DahliaMacNamara · 11/11/2023 23:15

My MIL was like this. I had no idea, as a clueless 20-year-old, that this was a thing, and thought I'd get brownie points for offering to help with the washing up. Nope. Same deal with plumping up the sofa cushions before going to bed. I thought clearing everything up was sufficient. It was not. She thought her son had brought home a slattern. I'm not sure she ever changed her mind about that, because she often called round to find my sink shamefully wet.

Not a single person that ever lived layed on their deathbed and thought "fuck me, I wish I spent more time drying the sink". So no, I don't dry the sink and couldn't care less if it has watermarks.

I love you

Nanalisa60 · 11/11/2023 23:31

I would consider myself as house proud, but drying the sick, bath or shower tray is just another level of madness. Vice them a good clean and rinse, but that’s it no drying at my house.

2 seconds several times a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year, over a lifetime = too fucking long 😆

ThePeachIsSoUnusual · 12/11/2023 00:23

No. Life's too short, and it's more hygienic to rinse it round and leave it to air dry anyway.

Stainless steel sinks shouldn't need a polish all the time.

Wolvesart · 12/11/2023 00:59

Sounds like an episode of Four in a Bec 😂 Seriously, DH wipes micro drops in sink area after fruit is rinsed. I’ve learnt to wipe them up myself as I only use max one piece of kitchen paper not min two

853ax · 12/11/2023 01:07

For those that do this, is the cloth used to dry the sink washed each time?
Not something I have ever done however I can't imagine reusing a cloth that was used to dry a sink. So guessing for those who do this must be a lot of clothes in laundry.

Lollipopsandcandycanes · 11/11/2023 20:27

Yes my MIL dries the sink.

But she is lovely so I comply.

NotReadyForAutumnYet · 12/11/2023 02:00

I didn't even know this was a thing OP.

CavalierApproach · 12/11/2023 02:10

It’s good to know the long journey of humanity from the cave-dwelling times has led us to a fittingly significant destination

Bertiesmum3 · 12/11/2023 06:14

WinterWaffle · 11/11/2023 21:54

Da Fuk? The sink is not going to go mouldy in the few hours before you use it again.

No the silicone and grout around them will if left unclean and wet will over a period of time and also the soap scum needs to be washed off

Ohmych · 12/11/2023 06:30

I had a very brief relationship with someone like that. If we had coffee in the evening the cups and spoons had to be washed and dried before bed. Then the sink was washed and dried with a special sink cover put over it. Life's too short for that shit.

He also dried the bath and shower after use but had the grottiest flannel he used to wash himself that never got washed.

EveSix · 12/11/2023 07:06

This thread is eye-opening.

We don't have a dishwasher, so our ancient stainless steel sink always has a stainless steel washing up bowl in it, neither of which ever get dried after use. Cleaned inside and out at the end of each day, but dried? Never. Our sink is used throughout the day ‐food and drink preparation, plant watering, laundry prep, accessing water for cleaning other parts of the house, art and craft etc. It would need drying so frequently.

Good news is, the sink is 20 years old at least, and whoever implied that stainless steel in particular was somehow in definite need of drying, was wrong.

Mothership4two · 12/11/2023 07:11

CousinGreg55 · 11/11/2023 19:53

I have never even heard until this thread that drying a sink is even a thing

Me neither!

MN is quite educational for the weird and wonderful. Not that this thread is THAT W&W just a bit odd and unnecessary

Ginmonkeyagain · 12/11/2023 07:18

Drying the sink? Umm no, it's a sink it's pretty waterproof

Our shower is over the bath, so I do do a quick wipe round the edges and side after a shower.

cuckyplunt · 12/11/2023 07:21

We have a grey plastic washing up bowl in our sink, so you can’t see if it is wet.

GinJeanie · 12/11/2023 07:22

My MIL! You're not allowed to use the kitchen sink at all for this reason - display purposes only. All the action happens in the utility room where the dishwasher is. I've forgotten a few times and filled a glass of water/the kettle. She dives right in with a tea towel... I think it's unusual.
