Do you know anyone who considers a wet sink ' messy ' ?

And has to wipe it dry after each use ? We are talking kitchen sink, as well as bathroom sink ?

Are you like this ?

My mother is like this and it drives me insane, as she gets mad if you haven't completely dried the sink after each use.

Of course, food in the sink is gross. A dirty sink is gross, but a sink with just some left over water drops in it ? It's a bit much, surely ?

Or is this a common thing ?

My ILs with their shower. I always make sure there's no soap residue or my hair left, but watching my (now DH) boyfriend dry the shower until bone dry was the first red flag to their behaviour and why he walks on eggshells around them.

It's repeated throughout their house which is in no way welcoming or homely because of the sheer terror of them e.g. discovering a vague imprint in the sofa (on the rare occasion they let you sit anywhere other than the kitchen) because you hadn't beaten the cushions enough to erase your presence.

I love mumsnet for this type of thing. See also changing clothes the minute you get in the house to avoid getting outdoor germs on your soft furnishings.

A wet sink is the least of my worries I'm afraid

Plus the tap's on and off every 5 minutes in our house

Same. Sink-drying would be a full-time job here.

EmpressSoleil · 11/11/2023 20:44

I am lazy. I totally admit it. I do dry my sinks purely because they need cleaning less often if you do 😂i got this tip from my grandma. It's takes 2 seconds to dry and means it needs a full clean less often! If it made no difference I wouldn't bother.

Not a single person that ever lived layed on their deathbed and thought "fuck me, I wish I spent more time drying the sink". So no, I don't dry the sink and couldn't care less if it has watermarks.

FadedRed · 11/11/2023 20:45

Fuckme, now I’ve heard it all…

Wiccan · 11/11/2023 20:49

Yes I do but only the kitchen sink . I've done this for years because of OCD. I literally cannot walk away until I've wiped it dry .

I’m guessing display towel lady from the other thread would have a fit 😂

normal people - not so much

😁

MichaelAndEagle · 11/11/2023 20:58

I remember getting a telling off in my DT food tech class for not drying the sink. She said 'would you leave your sink at home like that?'
I was like, I'm 12 I wouldn't have washed up in the first place, but whatever!
That was the first and only person I've ever heard talking about drying a sink...until now!

TheSpruce · 11/11/2023 21:02

I think this thread actually explains many complaints about husbands who 'don't see the mess' and wives who are doing all this daily housework. Pointless busy work.

mrswhiplington · 11/11/2023 21:02

This thread is bonkers.😂

Bertiesmum3 · 11/11/2023 21:08

I dry all our sinks and the bath/shower after using it, to prevent mould, I also use a stainless steel cleaner after washing dishes and all clothes go in the wash after use

bonzaitree · 11/11/2023 21:10

Sometimes MN is like another universe. People are actually stood in their kitchens drying their sinks after every use?

“A full clean”?

surely you just wipe it with a soapy cloth? What’s a full clean?!

It’s true.

Ifailed · 11/11/2023 21:15

I only ever use my kitchen sink once. I rip it out and install another one several times a day. Sure, it's expensive and a total environmental disaster, but at least I have a dry sink.

And that's all that matters.

TowerRaven7 · 11/11/2023 21:16

I would every time I use one if anyone here would do the same. Since that’s not going to happen I just go with the flow 😂

TragicMuse · 11/11/2023 21:17

I have never dried a sink. And I don't think I'll start now.

yellowlane · 11/11/2023 21:17

My FIL is like this.

WannaLiveInABubble · 11/11/2023 21:20

After drying up the sink and drainer get sprayed and wiped down. Then dried with the tea towel just used before it goes in the wash. Yep also use a tea towel just once.

BotterMon · 11/11/2023 21:21

Only my cleaner!

WannaLiveInABubble · 11/11/2023 21:21

Full clean obviously is like water marks / limescale build up? Much easier to just spray and dry. Takes maybe 20 seconds?

tothesea · 11/11/2023 21:21

People dry their sinks?? Next you’ll be telling me you clean your ovens! Simpler just to regularly move house I find.
