To ask what you’re getting for Christmas?

I’m losing weight, so food/clothes seem pointless. What can I ask for? I’m thinking token as opposed to a big expensive item.

Stuff for a hobby/collection?
Books?
Perfume?
Shoes/boots?
Jewellery?
Ornaments?
Games?

Lots of stuff that is neither food nor clothing if you have a think

Pelegrinfalcon · 11/11/2023 15:31

We tend to only gift things to the kids in the family. Maybe I am odd but I find grown ups writing gift lists weird (I will get nothing, if that answers your question).

TheChosenTwo · 11/11/2023 15:31

I don’t know, it’s not Christmas Day yet! I don’t ask for anything so anything I do open is a surprise.
my dds make me a little stocking and dh will buy me surprises, I ask mil to make a charity donation on my behalf and my best friend and I tend to do something together in the new year, last year we gifted ourselves a trip to Paris on the Eurostar for the weekend.
Other than that, I don’t receive adult presents by prior agreement.
What do you want and what hobbies/interests do you have?

ChocolateCinderToffee · 11/11/2023 15:36

I’m getting whatever I buy myself. Books, fluffy slippers, maybe a new bathrobe if I find one I like.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 11/11/2023 15:46

I've got my eye on the Marc Jacobs Tote bag, it's £350 but there's 20% off at the mo.
What I'll actually get is:
Smellies
A book (pre read by the giver)
PJ's
Something homemade like a candle or pickles.
Slippers
Voucher

Floatinginatincan · 11/11/2023 16:25

So far I've got myself a moisturiser and serum and a new pair of slippers. I Will probably pick up a book & a bottle of wine to go with.

LisaD1 · 11/11/2023 16:29

Nothing material as we now buy experiences. Last year DH bought us National Heritage membership and it’s been great. I think he might get theatre tickets or a weekend away this year. I’ve booked us a night at the snooker and an overnight stay.

JAdoreMonPetitLabradorDodu · 11/11/2023 16:52

I’ve asked for L’Occitaine goodies from my mum. She likes to have clear, specific guidance. Ideally, she’d like me to buy them myself and just give me the money back, but I do like to maintain a modicum of surprise.

DM is also overseeing the kids’ gift buying for me (apparently at their request.) So that’ll mean whatever they can find when they go to Notcutts with her in a couple of weeks (God help me.)

In the past, DH has presented gifts on a spectrum from diamond necklace to lettuce washer. So, who knows?!

I’ll keep a bit of money back to treat myself in the sales and to buy some books for January, in an attempt to assuage the inevitable disappointments.

cadburyegg · 11/11/2023 17:01

My mum is getting me a velvetiser 😊

Aurasauras · 11/11/2023 17:03

What is on my list is a lovely bracelet and some amazingly cute sunglasses

ChickpeaPie · 11/11/2023 17:07

A new lovely leather handbag

lol at a lettuce washer 😂

My mum is getting me a velvetiser 😊

That's what I've got my DD < I'd better name change now, just in case 😁>

I've asked for a radio as mine has packed up.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 11/11/2023 17:15

I've asked for some victoria beckham makeup that I can't justify getting for myself.

I also want a new leather work bag to carry my laptop around.

Maybe some nice skin care stuff.

Always happy to receive books.

I've like to have lots of houseplants, although realistically I'd probably kill them all.

JaceLancs · 11/11/2023 17:17

I am getting slippers, nightshirt, dressing gown and lego
probably a few bits like calendar and candles as surprises as the first 4 things I have chosen

student26 · 11/11/2023 17:43

I am getting a little electric spinning wheel for my wool spinning. Wanted one for agggges!

Strokethefurrywall · 11/11/2023 17:53

My Amazon cart currently has:
Brahmin duxbury bag
Yoga socks/gloves
Boxing hand wraps
Dress
Books

I choose for myself and then feign surprise when I open them on Christmas Day.

dontgobaconmyheart · 11/11/2023 18:04

My wishlist is mostly books, a ceramic table lamp I've had my eye on, a new board game for us to play over christmas, scarf and gloves, posh (compared to my normal) chocolates that I ask for every year and look forward to, a few higher price point makeup and skincare bits I tend not to justify paying for throughout the year, a nice candle, faux fur electric blanket. Any/all/just one of those things is completely fine by me! Nothing I won't actually use or want basically.

I wouldn't go looking for stuff to add and wouldn't buy DP things for the sake of it either, we don't do any filler presents or make a point of having it so that we each get the same number of gifts or match the amount spent - we just get what each other wants, and a little wild card or two for fun but even that will be something one of us has pointed out over the course of the year, or something very much returnable otherwise so no big risks and no waste.

ButtonDownBev · 11/11/2023 18:28

Me and dh choose our own presents (it just works for us as we don't have a lot of disposable money to buy nice treats for ourselves often and we'd just prefer to choose them, and then we get each other a small surprise gift around the £20 or under mark)

I'm having:
Babyliss big hair styler
Milton Lloyd perfume (a cheap smells a-like but I like it)
A box of red Lindt chocolates
2 lush snow fairy bubble bars.

Luxell934 · 11/11/2023 18:35

How do people know what they are getting? Do people buy these gifts themsevles "for christmas"? or give their lists to their partners/family?

DilemmaDelilah · 11/11/2023 18:44

I've just had my birthday and my darling husband got me a Lego wild flower collection and 12 Audible books - perfect!!! I've asked him for some shoes or boots from Vivaia as I bought myself some recently and they are honestly the most comfortable footwear I have ever worn. I trust him to get something I want (if I give him an idea of what that is).

Dontcallmescarface · 11/11/2023 18:45

I know what I'm getting because DD asked what I would like and I told her. I write a list as it's also my birthday December 25th so rather than have "What do you want for Christmas?" followed immediately by "what about your birthday?", I just give DP and DD the list and they pick 2 each from it.

Unabletomitigate · 11/11/2023 18:48

Things for your hobby that you might not splash out for yourself.
Gift cards for fav stores when the weight stabilised.

BestestBrownies · 11/11/2023 18:48

Now the DC are all young adults that have left home, we do a Christmas theatre trip to London together about a week before. Always see the matinee performance, then go for dinner and a walk round to see the lights. Puts everyone in the festive mood and is a lot more memorable than 'stuff'. We buy our elderly parents luxury food items that they wouldn't treat themselves to, which they love to receive over 'stuff', that they have a houseful of at their ages.

DP and I haven't exchanged gifts past our first Christmas together. We prefer to save the money for a weekend away or holiday in January, but if I had to make a list I'd go for:-

Water flosser
Hobby related Books/equipment
Hobby course/voucher
Cashmere socks
Silk pillowcase/hair ties
Massage/facial voucher

WelshNerd · 11/11/2023 18:50

I want Lego, a watch and a purse. I do ask for what I want rather than have DH guess.

PegasusReturns · 11/11/2023 18:52

in this house we do stockings for adults and i do nearly all the buying for DH and DC so quite often just pick up stuff I like as I go and then give it to DH. This gets better as my DC get older as my DDs and I like pretty similar stuff.

There’s a couple of things he always gets me:

a diptyque candle
a couple of books
posh pyjamas
my favourite chocolate

my main present is always jewellery and Lego - which I love.
