To ask what you’re getting for Christmas?

I’m losing weight, so food/clothes seem pointless. What can I ask for? I’m thinking token as opposed to a big expensive item.

Nothing, we only get kids in the family presents. I love it, takes the stress and waste out of Christmas.

CuteCillian · 11/11/2023 18:55

I'd much rather 'do' things than own things, so I'm hoping for theatre tickets or a night away somewhere. One of my best presents last year was a pork pie workshop from my sister.

ChewbaccasMrs · 11/11/2023 19:26

I want a new full length mirror,a new black handbag, some nice knickers and bra sets and some new chemise or nighties and some boot socks.

My DH will probably buy me those bits and then our 5DC (4 are adults and our youngest is 16)we'll probably get me a book, some perfume,a bottle of something alcoholic, there'll be a mixture from them all and my DD usually buys me something personalised from my DGS4 and I'll get money from my Mil and Fil that I'll spend in the sales after Christmas.

We tend to only gift things to the kids in the family. Maybe I am odd but I find grown ups writing gift lists weird (I will get nothing, if that answers your question).

Beat me to it.

Teapot32 · 11/11/2023 19:35

Divorced apparently. Dh dropped the bombshell last night 😅

FelicityFlops · 11/11/2023 19:36

Bugger all, as far as I know.
I am graciously invited to my sister's in the UK, I live in Europe. Last time I went in 2015 I was told not to bring any presents for anyone, which was pretty miserable.
However, things have changed. There are now small children in the mix. I will take presents for my sister and brother-in-law, token presents for my nieces and nephew as well as fun presents for my great-niece and great-nephews.
I do not expect anything at all, why should I?

jay55 · 11/11/2023 19:37

My dad will get me some PJs. I'm looking at getting myself a big comfy sweatshirt.

DappledThings · 11/11/2023 19:53

Charity gift from parents and my brother. Nothing from DH. Whatever DH has asked for from his parents as a joint gift to get me out of getting anything myself.

Last year they refused to accept that electric hedge clippers were totally a joint present I wanted but this year he's asked for a coffee machine so I should be OK.

TheHateIsNotGood · 11/11/2023 20:02

2-3 of any of the following:
Winter PJs, perfume, slippers an apron.

I went without new PJs and perfume last year so need a top up. Have added slippers as proper slippers are so expensive but I'm considering making my own. And the newcomer is an Apron, maybe 2, as I'm so messy whatever I do.

GeneCity · 11/11/2023 20:06

Jeez, @Teapot32 - I hope you're OK.

CautiousOptimist · 11/11/2023 20:07

I have asked for some wireless headphones from DH, and one murder mystery book from each of our three children.
If I didn't ask I'd get more booze and nice chocolates than I need and some nail varnish in dubious shades!

EllaMenopee · 11/11/2023 20:12

I found a gorgeous hat and scarf set but the scarf is out of stock in the perfect colour! Hopefully they will both be in stock in a couple of weeks and I'll send dh the links. Dc will buy for me at the gifts for grown ups stall at the school Christmas fair. That will be an epic surprise 😂

Motheranddaughter · 11/11/2023 20:15

I will get a surprise from DH
Have a big birthday in January so he will probably cut back a bit for Christmas

TheHateIsNotGood · 11/11/2023 20:17

My Xmas presents are bought if DS has enough savings or if I have enough spare, they're not something worth getting into debt for.

DS will always get something from me; and guaranteed a stocking on his bed - the fun part now is finding that window of time between him staying up late and me crashing early.

He caught me out on the Santa Explanation many years ago - his smile was memorable. It's life's little pleasures that make it all wortwhile.

weegiemum · 11/11/2023 20:22

Dh and I are getting each other new phones. We're both surviving on dc cast offs with poor battery life and cracks all over. So we'll do that even though it's something we both need anyway.

Apart from that I'll ask for a book or two. I'll get dh some clothes and books. I've also found some F1 merch I might get as he's really into it and went to the Belgian Grand Prix this year with ds. Or I might save that for his birthday in April.

Bloody hell. Was it out of the blue? Hope you're OK x

Ohmylovejune · 11/11/2023 20:55

Bought mine today!

A 5 glass fish shoal by Jo Downs. For our downstairs cloakroom. I'd love a bigger shoal but this looks fabulous on the wall of a small room.

Yes, I've installed it already! Couldn't wait!

EmpressSoleil · 11/11/2023 20:58

I like making up stupid songs and torturing my family with them! So I am threatening to buy myself a keyboard so I can play accompanying music 😂i do genuinely want one actually as learning the piano is something I've wanted to do for years.

I usually do an amazon wish list for DC and they get me some things from there.

DelurkingAJ · 11/11/2023 21:00

I’ve asked for (and will get some of these because DS1 has ASD and therefore buys to request and has (hurray!) tamed DH’s ‘I know you said you really wanted this but I thought you’d prefer that’ tendencies):

  • summer slippers
  • new silk nightie
  • bath stuff
  • herb dryer
  • coffee percolator
We also do stockings for everyone so will get lovely surprises that way (and much less disappointing should any be complete misfires).
LibbyL92 · 11/11/2023 21:07

I want a new TV for the bedroom. And Dollars as I fly to New York on Boxing Day :)

Pelegrinfalcon · 11/11/2023 21:10

Dh and I are getting each other new phones.

wouldn't it make more sense to buy your own phones so you can pick exactly what you want?

crackofdoom · 11/11/2023 21:19

The only people who buy for me are the DC, and I have told them I want the Wildflower Key by Francis Rose, which I'll have to check is available cheaply second hand on Amazon, to avoid last year's cock up where I asked for Landlines by Raynor Winn, and it turned out it was only available in hardback at that point and cost them £20 😳.

There will probably also be socks and chocolates, because they are generous little souls, bless them. I will have to remember to steer them towards the chocolates I actually like when we go shopping.

Loubelle70 · 11/11/2023 21:23

Perfume (got my eye on l',interdit rouge ultime), diptyque candles...i buy them myself...new xmas pyjamas dressing gown slippers, charlotte tilbury creams and makeup

AdoringDavidAttenborough · 11/11/2023 21:25

I'd quite like some perfume (but DH would get into a tizz, so I'll buy myself some). Failing that, a nice jumper or the new Liz Taylor/Richard Burton biog would be a treat, and I'm hopeful of a reusable coffee cup from DD.

bippityboppity87 · 11/11/2023 21:33

No idea I'm quite easy to buy for. Perfume, nice shower gel/soap, slippers. I do want a heated blanket though
