Stupid other driver

Where I drop my kids off at Granny's is a small side road off a residential road in a small town. The side road is a dead end that leads to a health centre and day care centre. It has two lanes at the junction with the 'main' road but quickly narrows for a short length as you go towards the health centre. When it was built they didn't leave enough space for full width pavements so there are narrow pavements and then a bumpy kerbed bit to stop cars going on the pavements. I've added a rough sketch.

I generally reverse into the side road and stop after Granny's parked car down the side road to drop my kids off. It only takes a minute. But the stupid cleaner for the day care centre tends to arrive at about the time this is happening (7am). She drives round the corner into the side road on the wrong side of the road (because of where Granny's car is parked near the corner) and then stops when she sees my car.

She won't reverse back into the 'main' road to let me out and seems to think there isn't room for her to pull over to the left after Granny's car. She just sits there waiting for me to reverse further down the side road to a wider bit so she can get past to the care centre car park.

It's still dark at 7am. When she sees my lights why can't she just stay in the 'main' road, or behind Granny's car until I've dropped the kids off, or pull over as soon as she's past it? I think there's enough room for her to pull over. She must be a rubbish driver if she thinks there isn't.

One shouldn't be reversing into the main road. I don't see why this issue warrants an effort of a sketch and a post. How difficult is it for you to drive further two meters down the road really? And why is it that she has to wait for you to drop your kids off when you are blocking entrance to the car park (and the road for everyone else!). Find a parking spot down the road, I say.

BarnacleBeasley · 10/11/2023 11:46

In your diagram (though perhaps not in real life?) it looks like Granny's car is parked too close to the junction.

If I were here I would probably wait to turn in until you'd gone, for my own convenience, but I certainly wouldn't reverse back out into the main road, which would be dangerous. I think (and she probably thinks) you would be better driving in forwards and turning round in the health centre car park.

MonkeyPuddle · 10/11/2023 11:48

You are entirely unreasonable and entitled.

randomchap · 10/11/2023 11:48

That parked car is too close to the junction. Iirc it should be 10m from it.

AMistakePlusKeleven · 10/11/2023 11:49

Don't block the road and that is too close to the junction to park.
How rude to refer to her as stupid.

Tinkerbyebye · 10/11/2023 11:49

Sit it out. I did that when it was blatantly my tight of way and I was more than half way along a row of parked cars on the other side of the road and a driver, who clearly saw my carried on past them on my side of the road. She indicated for my to pull into someone’s drive so she could get past, and wouldn’t move. So I turned my engine off, got a bottle of water and swigged from it and sat there. She moved

margotrose · 10/11/2023 11:50

I actually think you're wrong for leaving your car where you do. You should park it so that anyone needing to get past can do so without waiting or reversing.

So, YABU and rude to call the cleaner "stupid".

holidaywin · 10/11/2023 11:50

If there's room to the left after granny's car why can't you pull in there to drop off? You shouldn't be blocking the road for any period of time. She also shouldn't have to reverse into a main road.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/11/2023 11:51

Are you joking?

You mush be joking.

savoycabbage · 10/11/2023 11:52

Why don't you get there ten minutes earlier? Although I am assuming this is a reverse as you are so unreasonable.

Runssometimes · 10/11/2023 11:52

You should not reverse from a side road onto a main road. It’s right there in the Highway Code -201.

The cleaner isn’t stupid and would be obstructing the junction if she waited behind granny’s car which frankly is parked dangerously if the diagram is accurate.

user1497207191 · 10/11/2023 11:52

Why are you blocking the road?

TheJubileePortrait · 10/11/2023 11:53

YABVU and really rude.

DappledThings · 10/11/2023 11:54

So when you are dropping your children off you just stop in the middle of the road?

BarnacleBeasley · 10/11/2023 11:57

Tinkerbyebye · 10/11/2023 11:49

Sit it out. I did that when it was blatantly my tight of way and I was more than half way along a row of parked cars on the other side of the road and a driver, who clearly saw my carried on past them on my side of the road. She indicated for my to pull into someone’s drive so she could get past, and wouldn’t move. So I turned my engine off, got a bottle of water and swigged from it and sat there. She moved

This is what the cleaner is doing, as she knows OP is in the wrong.

Granny should indeed be parked 10m from the junction, and she could easily park nearer her house (in the space OP wants the cleaner to slot into). But the obvious solution is for OP to turn into the road normally, park in the space after Granny's car, drop off, then turn round at the end of the cul de sac afterwards.

Frabbits · 10/11/2023 11:57

So you are blocking the road up and think that someone should be reversing back onto a main road to suit you?

😂

Chlorinara · 10/11/2023 11:58

reversing into a main road is never the answer.

Is this a reverse? The obvious answer seems to be for you to either park in the space you think the cleaner can pull into, or reverse further down the road until you can let them pass.

Toottooot · 10/11/2023 11:59

Of course the ‘stupid cleaner’ should not reverse back into the main road. Only one driver being stupid and it ain’t the cleaner. Do you think you’re better than her because she’s a cleaner? Your post certainly indicates you do.

DrinkingMyWaterMindingMyBiz · 10/11/2023 12:02

You and your granny are both BU.

You shouldn’t expect someone to wait for you to drop your kids off when you can just park up like everyone else has to.

Granny shouldn’t park on a corner.

Also, “stupid cleaner” makes you sound like a prick.

RiverCartwright · 10/11/2023 12:02

Don’t think OP will be back to this one 😂
perhaps they could use their time to re read the Highway Code.

KrisAkabusi · 10/11/2023 12:02

This has to be a reverse because you are 100% in the wrong. You cannot expect her to reverse onto a main road!

SM4713 · 10/11/2023 12:04

Its not the cleaner that is stupid in this scenario! Its the entitled one blocking the entire road! Clearly a reverse or a twit!

Workawayxx · 10/11/2023 12:05

I think it's not working for you to block the road while dropping the kids off. Why can't you park up in front/behind granny's car while dropping off?

ColleenDonaghy · 10/11/2023 12:06

It's a reverse, right? A reverse about reversing? A reversyverse? A full 360? Is this a forward????

Anyway, if it's not a reverse, you can't park and neither can Granny.

Beautiful3 · 10/11/2023 12:11

No you shouldn't be blocking the road, nor reversing into a main road. I'm sure you can park further away in a safer spot, that's not hindering others. The other driver is definitely not stupid, she sounds incredibly patient with you.
