to not like long, painted "done" nails?

millonthedentalfloss · 07/11/2023 00:25

They give me the heebie jeebies or rather gross me out. Short nails even if painted are tolerable although I prefer no polish at all but gel nails, long nails, stick on nails, acrylic nails are all just .... shudder.

If I am at a deli and someone getting the food has long nails it totally puts me off. I can't watch Mary Berry and her long nails touch the food she makes, its definitely unsanitary. I know so many women spend a fortune doing their nails and take great pride in it but I will never understand why because I find them so grim.

Is anyone else like this?

Congrats OP, you’re not like other girls.

I wish mumsnet would delete these threads

Velvian · 07/11/2023 07:08

Yanbu, I hate long nails, they really give me the creeps. I was really surprised in the early lockdown days with the happy birthday handwashing that nails weren't mentioned.

Propshols · 07/11/2023 07:09

I get my nails done every 3-4 weeks. Mostly SNS but sometimes acrylic. Most of the time they are short for practical reasons but I do get long ones too. At the moment I have long ones because it was my birthday and I wanted a more intricate design that only works on longer nails.

It’s only nails ladies… I really couldn’t get myself so worked up… it’s really not that deep! (As my teenage stepdaughter would say).

Shinyandnew1 · 07/11/2023 07:10

Don’t your deli staff wear gloves?

Thumbsnet · 07/11/2023 07:13

You sound as though you're 12, OP. Finish school. Grow up.

Itsnotchristmasyet · 07/11/2023 07:22

I honestly don’t know how anyone doesn’t paint their nails.

For me it would be like leaving the house with no clothes on.

My finger and toe nails are always painted.
I just use cheap B&M nail varnish and change it once or twice a week.

I usually have long nails, as I love the look of them and I find it easier to do things but mine are natural.
I couldn’t be bothered to have fake ones put on.

Ironically, when my nails are short they are much harder to keep clean as dirt gets trapped in them, but when they’re long they wash out easily.

notameangirlhun · 07/11/2023 07:23

So don’t get them then.

And whilst we’re at it, stop criticising other women’s choices.

Have a dog treat? I guess sneering/being down right insulting is only allowed to be done by you.

I keep my nails as short as possible OP couldn't stand anything else.

All the people judging/insulting all the people they say are judgemental. Why not just say you love long nails?

TeslaTwat · 07/11/2023 07:33

I have acrylics and they look extremely classy. They're a nice length and usually a classic colour. It means I don't have to do anything to them myself apart from a bi weekly appointment to get them changed. You wouldn't get heeby Jeebys looking at them.

That being said, they shouldn't be allowed for anyone working in food service or healthcare because they are quite vile. If I leave it over two weeks, my natural nail becomes ever so slightly separated from the acrylic and it's impossible to clean down there.

vegetaria · 07/11/2023 07:35

I have to paint my nails black because I am on chemo, so please be a little but less judgemental. There may well be medical reasons for having to paint your nails

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 07/11/2023 07:35

Don’t wear them then.

Sexlivesofthepotatomen · 07/11/2023 07:41

So we've had make up, lips, long nails...wonders what's next

SoftKittyBazinga · 07/11/2023 07:43

I really don’t like them either and the clicky clacky noise when sometime types with them is really irritating.

Sorry to hear that you’re on chemo.

Sorry to sound so stupid.
Can I ask what chemo does to your nails?

DoktorPeppa · 07/11/2023 07:45

Yanbu

They turn my stomach

To those posters saying well don't get them then...you still have to look at other people's on checkouts etc. Gross

It make them fall out. You can protect them a bit and help them recover, grow better or less likely to fall off by painting them black so no UV gets through them to the nail bed

Onceuponaheatache · 07/11/2023 07:49

Ffs why the hell do women have to repeatedly tear apart other women??

You don't have to like them but to be bitchy and mean to and about others who do is pathetic.

But then I suppose playground bullies never do grow up.

Someone has to look at you too, if they find your face disgusting to look at theyre ok to sneer and grimace at you then start a cunty thread on the Internet about it then? Maybe stay at home if someone’s nails triggers you so much?

Thank you for explaining that.
I never knew chemo patients did this, it’s really interesting and obviously very sad too.

Isn't that what you're doing with that post?

SerafinasGoose · 07/11/2023 07:55

I don't like them either but nobody's making me wear them, so in that sense my view is irrelevant.

An exception is in catering and medical contexts for hygiene reasons. I'm surprised this isn't already regulated. Nail polish and rings with stones didn't used to be permitted on the staff of pubs which serve food.

This site is shocking for it!

Men do not start threads about what other men wear, yet on here there seems to be a bitchy thread about what women wear/do every week!

I can only think that it’s jealousy.

I've trained as a nail tech (only do friends and family though). In our training they covered about chemo making nails fall out, but not about painting them black to protect them - it makes sense though. I'll remember this. Hope your treatment is going well Flowers

NotmySundaybest · 07/11/2023 08:09

....waiting for the lash extension/eyebrow/Botox bashing thread

WeAreBorg · 07/11/2023 08:13

All our admin team have really long nails and I have to leave the room if they’re clacking away on their keyboards. I’ve told them it makes me feel weird but they just laugh at me! Also when they drum their nails on the table or if they scratch themselves I can’t bear it.

I also have to leave if people eat their food too loudly or crack their knuckles so I suspect this is a sensory issue for me and not their problem. I paint my (very short) nails and wear probably too much perfume so I’m equally offensive 😂
