changed their knicker styles? The style I have bought for years no longer exists. Have bought underwear from M&S forever, but have had to shop elsewhere.
Very disappointed!

I stopped buying the midi style several years ago when they stopped being midi on me and ended up above my belly button. I bought one pack and thought I’d been unlucky so tried again six months later but they were the same

They have got rid of the midi briefs (which were halfway between high rise granny pants and bikini). They seem to have replaced them with shorts style briefs which are far too flappy around the leg!

They are now called High Rise Shorts.

They even say in the blurb beside them "New name, still your favourite midi fit"

I am totally with you on this!
Worn midi knickers for years … perfect style to cover but not massive. The shorts are a nightmare…I’ve gone through about 3 packs so far just trying to find a similar style that covers you but doesn’t ride up your backside.

countrygirl99 · 03/11/2023 08:48

Voice of dissent on the TU knickers here. I don't want plain back or white and all the other midis in my local store have a lace panel that I find really itchy.

I, 've never forgiven them for discontinuing the butter jacket potato-flavoured crisps. They were divine they actually tasted like a buttered jacket potato fresh from the oven ...

Same here! Used to get them as a treat to eat on the bus on the way home from town. They were so good.

Sparehair · 03/11/2023 08:50

Tesco pants are really good quality. I’m not sure of the midi styles as I get the bikini (plain back cotton ones) but they are great.

I thought I was being excessive a few years ago when I bought loads of my favourite M&S midi knickers every time there was a sale or offers, I'm glad I did now as I haven't seen them for ages.

I'm doing exactly the same with their 'confidence' range of pants. Every so often, they are discounted so I buy a set or two. They come in a three-pack but on a hanger, so I've got dozens a few hanging in the wardrobe which did slightly bewilder my husband 😂

tennesseewhiskey1 · 03/11/2023 08:57

Tell what has really fucked me off - they changed their ginger snaps recipe. I bought some yesterday - I was so angry I was about to snap myself. It’s bro crunchy anymore, too bladdy crumbly and almost tasteless. Thank god my poor departed grandmother is not here anymore, she is turning in her grave as I type! She loved those!

Butteredtoast55 · 03/11/2023 09:03

Sainsbury's are great and they also do Sloggi pants which are my all time favourite. I like the full, up to the armpit jobs, but also have some of the lace trimmed midi style and they're really nice to wear.

DuckBushCityLimit · 03/11/2023 09:05

My knicker drawer is definitely looking past its best, but I've been prevaricating on buying more as my last couple of M&S purchases have been really crap. One lot where the waist elastic just disintegrated within a few washes and another that were just weirdly flappy around the bum. I might be passing a big Sainsbury's today so maybe I'll try theirs.

And I still occasionally crave the Swiss bubbly chocolate bars.

Oleaginus · 03/11/2023 09:11

I'm weighing in here to complain about the distinct lack of coloured body sensor tights. M&S used to do lovely purple ones and green ones- in the last few years, you'd have to buy a multipack to get one colour. I've just been on their website and I can't see any colour. It's all black and navy now.

Let's not even start talking about how the toes of said tights now seem to develop holes much quicker than before...

Oleaginus · 03/11/2023 09:21

*To clarify - they have multipacks of tights with a mix of 1 black, 1 navy, and 1 red pair, not single or multi packs of the other colour alone.

I’ve still not moved on from when they stopped selling their chicken tikka sandwich… why? It was a classic ..

Oh Jesus yes, that was a heavenly sandwich. With a milk and white chocolate mousse for dessert (RIP).

Tbh I prefer the shorts and I was worried that they would phase them out because the selection of styles was getting more limited, but I can’t really understand why they would get rid of the midi, it’s a happy medium between skimpy and granny. Retailers really seem to be scaling down their choices for customers, we went to Clark’s at the weekend and it looked like a minimalist showroom of shoes, they said they didn’t make lace up boy’s shoes in DS size because they were too small despite the fact that we have bought lace up shoes in lower sizes previously from them. Makes shopping very depressing.

Lorrymum · 03/11/2023 09:26

They have changed sizing on some clothing. No longer 10/12 now 8/10 (too small) and 12/14 (too big).

Passepartoute · 03/11/2023 09:30

I still miss their sausage rolls that had tomato flavouring in the sausage meat.

OMG i thought I’d hallucinated the memory of those crisps, they were divine! Now mourning the mini banoffee pies too.

I’m starting to think someone should have a shop selling discontinued but sorely missed items. There would be loads of food from M&S, Woolworths pick n mix, Boots natural collection and a Body shop perfume bar in the middle.

MrsHarrisAParis · 03/11/2023 09:31

Their sizing and lengths are a complete raffle anyway now. I've only managed to buy one pair of trousers that actually fit in the past year. I can try on the exact same size and length in two different trousers - one fits perfectly; the other is either too small or drowns me.

LadyEloise1 · 03/11/2023 09:35

@Oleaginus I don't buy tights from Marks anymore as they holes at the toe so quickly.

I used to buy Midi nude, black
and white coloured knickers in 💯 cotton but M&S stopped doing them and they too had gone down in quality.
I buy a multipack of Midi knickers in Dunnes Stores now - they are 💯 cotton and come in black, nude and navy.
dunnesstores.com

They are similar to Marks and Spencer.
Initially they would have been the older competitor to Primark ( Penneys in Ireland - the first Primark).
But they have really upped their game in recent years.

JudgeJ · 03/11/2023 09:57

I love this list of discontinued food grudges!

Oh I have plenty gathered in my 75 years!
Someone upthread referred to C & A, when we were kids this was known as Coats & 'ats, there seems to be a different take re knickers!

Why do Schweppes not sell Bitter Orange in the UK yet they do in Germany? Not Brexit before someone ticks that box, this predates all that nonsense.

That sounds lovely. I miss Schweppes dry lemonade

It is lovely, far nicer than Bitter Lemon and since the hand-luggage rules changed I can't even heave half a dozen bottles home. Anyone from Schweppes HQ on MN???

Holdyournoseandthinkofchocolate · 03/11/2023 10:06

I liked the ‘sideseam free’ ones they used to do, where the seams are about 1/3 of the way across the front instead. But they stopped them :(. Somehow totally seam free ones I don’t like as much - I think it is the material.

StarlightLady · 03/11/2023 10:11

For the record C&A, aside from the jokes, are alive and well in mainland Europe.

WhoBrokeIt · 03/11/2023 10:32

@airforsharon Thank you. I'll give them a try.

It certainly is. I make a beeline for it when I go home. I think I must be the only woman who leaves the UK with an empty suitcase and returns with a full one.
The one in my home city has a McDonald's in the middle of it.

I hate the shorts style too

But I guess everyone else (except you and me) must love them as they seem to be displacing other styles.

M&S knickers are thinner/flimsier these days. No different to supermarket, and better can be had on Amazon
