Who actually benefits from changing the clocks?

Kids up at 5:30. Pretty sure that the same thing has happened in many, many houses this morning.

It's just an hour, but so disruptive to children.

Who benefits? Winds me up every year.

I benefited this year... I didn't even notice we had an extra hour tbh!!

shockwaze · 31/10/2023 06:15

Good for you, well done.

Who benefits in general is my question, if you didn't even notice, what good has it done

Isn't it the farmers?

Catsmere · 31/10/2023 06:17

I've always thought the same. We're a month into daylight saving in Australia (except the states with the sense to ignore it) and it's so ridiculous. The sun sets late enough in summer anyway, why do we need to fiddle with the time?

HarlanPepper · 31/10/2023 06:17

Do we have to have this 'debate' every year? Google it.

Well, fuck fhem.

3rd day in row of 2 year old waking at 5.30. It's crap and we had been lucky with all other time changes but despite my best efforts at shifting the time beforehand she fecked us over by not napping on Friday so had to go to bed early.

I don't know who benefits but I do need to know she'll adjust and go back to us waking her at 6.45-7! Please someone tell me she will adjust.

She will, and my kids will. But it's so shit.

This year's change has coincided with a dreadful cold for the 2 year old.

It's bullshit

also waking at 5.30
no kids here
didnt realise it was a common scenario due to clock change

Didn't realise what was common?

Yep. 5am wake up with my 11 month old twins today and need to keep them going until late so that older daughter can go out trick or treating. Its going to be a long day. Not sure if there's a need and obviously a lot of countries agree. Most of Europe do have it though so must be a good reason.

AutumnComfort · 31/10/2023 06:22

It's the opposite with teens in a good way. They were going to bed too late, now 10 feels like 11, so they're going to be at a reasonable time again.

I had an early start today. Woke up feeling refreshed because it still feels like it's an hour later.

It's going to be dark at some point anyway because it's turning into winter.

Mindset matters. Nothing is going to change, so work on adapting instead of complaining and you'll adapt quicker.

GRex · 31/10/2023 06:23

I hate clock change either way. I'd rather stick on summertime, but I'll take GMT, just want them to stop changing it every year.

Also up at 5.30.

Mindymomo · 31/10/2023 06:23

It does help us taking our dog out for an early walk in the light rather than in the dark, but the dog doesn’t know that the clock’s changed and is now awake at 5 am barking, telling us he’s awake.

RampantIvy · 31/10/2023 06:24

shockwaze · 31/10/2023 06:18

Well, fuck fhem.

I'm also awake very early today, probably due to the clock change, but am still grateful to the farmers.

I live in a farming community.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 31/10/2023 06:24

Well the time now is actually the default time, it’s the summer time that’s “wrong” and that’s there to maximise daylight in the evenings.

FairFuming · 31/10/2023 06:24

It always throws my youngest off.for at least a month. He's got additional needs and is slow to adjust to change, it also throws me off for a few days at least so I'm not a fan.

wetnwindy49 · 31/10/2023 06:25

Sorry but we kind of need farmers

AutumnComfort · 31/10/2023 06:25

I would stay on winter time all year.

grottyb · 31/10/2023 06:25

I’m up & out early so like the lighter mornings, soz!

Not sure they're that bothered considering it's 2023 and we have electric lights. Plus they probably have children waking too early too.

DustyLee123 · 31/10/2023 06:27

I also just wish they’d stop it ! No need now.
And my dog obviously can’t tell the time as he’s been up at 5.30 the last two mornings !

andyourpointiswhat · 31/10/2023 06:27

Thank you for reminding me the clocks have changed for you. I am in Aus and this time of year is the best for catching my sister for a long natter due to our various commitments so sorry it sucks for you but I am happy 😊

instaready · 31/10/2023 06:27

Scotland benefits. Kids would be waking to school in the dark otherwise.

instaready · 31/10/2023 06:27

Waking and walking Grin
