Who actually benefits from changing the clocks?

Kids up at 5:30. Pretty sure that the same thing has happened in many, many houses this morning.

It's just an hour, but so disruptive to children.

Who benefits? Winds me up every year.

It's never had any effect on my child any years and he's now 8. Yiu adjust the bed time hour.
I see all these parents moan that their kid gets up at 6am....now 5am but why put them to bed so early? They need 12 hours sleep or if 8 years old between 10 and 12 hours so time their bedtime for when you want them to get up. If you want your kid to get up at 7am but them to bed 7pm. My kid always went to bed at 8pm and got up 8am. Never in my life did they get up early.

So you are basing this on your one child? I have several kids, some are affected others are not. They where raised the exact same way. You really carnt base this on one kid.

MyCircumference · 31/10/2023 06:48

i dont like leaving work at 5 now in the dark
never mind the lighter mornings

Mrsjayy · 31/10/2023 06:48

It takes a week or so for body clocks to catch on to the change hopefully we can get back to normal!

Think it's gonna take her a lot longer than that

KaySararSarar · 31/10/2023 06:49

I saw some reel that said why not just change the clocks by 30 mins and leave them alone forever more - actually made sense to me…but I have been up super early sooo…

shockwaze · 31/10/2023 06:37

Wrong.

It's wrong anyway.
Do people really think there are no farmers down south 😂
I hate it , my body clock is set so I just go to bed at 9pm( 10pm BST) and get up at 5am( 6am BST)

3luckystars · 31/10/2023 06:57

I hope it stays this time as this is the correct time now.

I remember my oldest son in particular being out of sorts for weeks after a clock change.

Southwest here. Like the north it wasn't getting light till 8.00. GMT all the way here. We don't have the summers now to enjoy long balmy evenings.

Exactly - it's a myth that light makes a difference to the enjoyment of long evenings. It's temperature that counts. You go inside when it gets chilly, not when it gets dark.

grottyb · 31/10/2023 06:59

I also love the extra hour in bed! 😆

Fulshaw · 31/10/2023 06:59

Fuck the farmers?

They grow your food mate. You need them.

Luckydog7 · 31/10/2023 07:00

People saying they like the lighter mornings. We are now on GMT if we stopped the clock changes, the morning would be lighter ALL the time.

Its nothing to do with farmers. They don't care what time it is. Cows don't care what time it is.

Every time the clocks change, there is a significant increase in traffic accidents and measurable reduction in productivity because people are late/early for work. There really isn't a good reason to keep it that is worth all the disruption.

LlynTegid · 31/10/2023 07:00

Insurance companies, as it gives them more business because of the increased number of car crashes in November.

Which would reduce were we on BST all year round, or indeed I think if we had GMT all year round.

It makes sense in some ways, but it wouldn't be as straightforward calculating the time difference between the UK and other countries.

Its being reset back to normal time GMT. moving them forward is messing with them. You would have been up earlier too.

I was thinking the same 😂 This thread had made me laugh this morning.

Ducksurprise · 31/10/2023 07:04

We are farmers, but prefer to be on daylight saving time all year (so GMT+1)

What we do in the light in the morning, we now do in the dark in the evening.

There is no need for the whole country to change clocks, we should have separate time zones.

grottyb · 31/10/2023 07:04

and measurable reduction in productivity because people are late/early for work.

productivity is crap in the UK anyway so how do you separate out the impact of people arriving early at work due to clock changes?

Vettrianofan · 31/10/2023 07:05

My youngest one wakes at 5.45am whether the clocks go back or forward! Makes no difference.

Everybody is so tired well not kids and bloody dogs😃

HikingforScenery · 31/10/2023 07:07

I struggle to get up when it gets darker so going back to gmt at this time is perfect for me.

I understand it can be frustrating with young children though

This used to be a thing different times Doesn't really work though.

Ineedaholiday23 · 31/10/2023 07:08

I have the rage today because of it!

Half five here too.

We'll still be going to school in the dark. I absolutely hate it. My wee one is so tired he's now saying he doesn't want to go at all.

Today will be fun (!).

CobwebsAndCauldrons · 31/10/2023 07:08

I never mind the fall back in Autumn - I am just grateful for the delaying of early morning dog walks being in the dark with a head torch, for a little longer.

But I hate losing the hour in spring and would be happy to stick to just one time all year round (doesn't matter which).

allsfairin · 31/10/2023 07:11

shockwaze · 31/10/2023 06:25

Not sure they're that bothered considering it's 2023 and we have electric lights. Plus they probably have children waking too early too.

What, you think there is electric lighting in the fields, do you?

What a silly thing to be winging about - of course not all other countries do it, the further you are from the equator, the shorter your daylight hours become - many countries don't have the difference that we do.

The morning rush hours are lighter, the accident numbers go down, especially among school children, many of whom are still going to be home befor dark in the evening for most of the year.

Farmers are more able to time their day to make good use of daylight, without being totally out of synch with the rest of society.

I can't believe anyone begrudges an hour for farmers, and I can't believe anyone feels that this is a genuine hardship.

Get over it.

Some people just don't have enough to worry about
