...before all the weight loss, then she has since?

I don't get why she's so celebrated as a style icon for being skinny. She was lovely and had beautiful facial features in her early fame days

I wish people would stop saying overeating causes cancer. Obesity can be a risk factor but it riles me when a size 6, 20 something friend is dying of cancer. Kind of implies her lifestyle is a fault. Looks of very active, thin, sporty people still get cancer. Being slim and pert won't protect people from cancer. If only it was that simple. My friend could get down to a size 2 and beat it.

Why can’t we concentrate on what she brings to the world rather than her looks? Depressing thread.

Why can we not have a conversation about the pressure on women to be very thin and its consequences?

Eastie77Returns · 31/10/2023 09:17

No opinion on her appearance but her eldest son, the one who got married, always looks quite…unkept. Which is odd considering how style conscious the rest of the family seems to be. Whenever I see a picture of him it looks as if he needs a hot shower and hair wash.

We can, maybe start a thread on that rather than on slagging off victoria beckham

That’s what this one is about if you read it more carefully.

Tatumm · 31/10/2023 09:24

No one is stopping you having a conversation about anything. It’s a response to the OP.

Of course women shouldn’t feel pressure to be thin. Can we imagine having this conversation about a man who’d been awarded an OBE for services to his industry, who is a father and successful individual? No.

Wolvesart · 30/10/2023 23:52

It worries me they they are presented as such successful types. 3 boys left private and expensive education and not a university degree in the offing. Her dress sense classy, her children not so much

Judgmental, just in a different way

crankit · 31/10/2023 09:26

I think Victoria was stunning and still is. Yes she clearly has lip fillers and Botox but it's done nicely I think.

NoNonsenseNelly · 31/10/2023 09:27

Go ahead. I don't think this is a societal pressure to be rail thin. Look outside and most people aren't. Those who are, are either tall or petite and that's how they naturally look.

Please also note that people slagging off Victoria for being too thin is no better. It contributes to disorder eating (overeating) and a fixation with weight gain and very poor body image.

This is why we just mind our own business and leave people alone.

I do agree with this lol but his wife is stunning so it doesn't put the ladies off !

Itsnotchristmasyet · 31/10/2023 09:28

I agree and would say the same about Kim and Khloe kardashian, as well as some other celebs.

They were both gorgeous and had amazing figures but the pressure to be skinny means that they don’t look that nice anymore and I’ve noticed some photos where they don’t even look very well because they’re so skinny now.

If someone is naturally slim it’s different and they look healthy.
But when they’re unnaturally slimmer than they should be, it really shows.

I think it’s very difficult to be a female celebrity and there is so much pressure on them.

I remember reading magazines 10 years ago and there were photos of all the celebs who have cellulite or rolls on their stomach when they sat down etc, proper body shaming them.

ArethaQ · 31/10/2023 07:49

The poster isn't saying she looked better because she was younger, she thinks she looked better because she was a healthier weight. I don't buy into all this 'everyone looks better at 20 Vs 40'. It's ageist and really not the case.

Absolutely
I definitely look better now than I did in my twenties

Why do women feel the need to judge each other like this?

You don't see men doing it to other men it's only women dragging other women down time and time again, are women born bitchy ??

I think this ties in with the MIL thread in so much as it proves there are still woman who feel they must past comment on woman's appearance faults.

If we could just keep thoughs on appearance faults to our musings, maybe there would less fat / thin etc shaming in real life.

She was beautiful then, she's beautiful now. It's been decades. She isn't exactly the same as she was in her 20s

Is this post reflective of your own lack of self esteem and confidence OP?
How sad you stoop so low to attack another women's looks.
You might benefit from some counselling.

horseyhorsey17 · 31/10/2023 09:32

I also think she was prettier before she had the work done and the weight loss too. She's deffo had a nose job and various fillers etc at various times. Can't argue that she doesn't look great now though.

I saw a documentary once where David Beckham said she literally eats steamed fish and veg for every meal, and that she just doesn't really enjoy food. I cannot imagine being like that! She clearly has iron will power though.

They’re not in the public eye though. Many women in the public eye are very thin - whether pop stars, actresses, TV presenters, royalty etc. And actresses and pop stars would tell you of specific pressure to be very thin.

EDs are alive and well, with far less treatment available than people who need it.

We’re not going to solve the problem if people deny it exists.

MargotBamborough · 31/10/2023 09:37

I mean, most people do look better at 24 than they do in their late 40s but I agree she looked better when she was a bit curvier.

Itsbritneybitch22 · 31/10/2023 09:37

What the fuck 🤣

Do you think a woman looked better nearly 30 years ago … WHAT ……

I’m pretty sure every single person who had ever walked this earth and who ever will looked better they did alarmist 30 years ago.

Is this a joke?

Also she looks amazing …

NoNonsenseNelly · 31/10/2023 09:41
  1. People who criticise celebs body image aren't stopping at celebs
  1. Public declerations of criticism are ready by others who look the same. If one person says a celeb looks fat, others read it. That's just as much 'in the public eye' as a thin or fat person existing and is (more) damaging.
  1. Seriously, nobody is trying to look rail thin in nearly 2024. It's not the fashionable body type anymore. Curvy and/or toned is.

This is not about “faults” in appearance. I don’t think her appearance is faulty. This is about pressure on women to be very thin and the individual women who internalise that such as VB.

These forums are full of disordered eating - whether under or over eating. How can we hope to conquer that if we cannot have a conversation about famous women who maintain extreme thinness? And in this case a restrictive diet?

Why do women feel the need to live like this? David Beckham seems to love food and cooking. He’s not worried is he!

FancyFanny · 31/10/2023 09:43

I don't think it's misogynist to say woman looked better before she went on extreme diet and exercise program. I also don't find fillers and botox attractive as it starts to make you look strange. David is also going down the same route and is starting to look odd. Ageing normally would be far more attractive.

crankit · 31/10/2023 09:44

@horseyhorsey17 no, not for a few years anyway !!

MargotBamborough · 31/10/2023 09:46

I think it's clear that Victoria Beckham is and always has been extremely anxious about her appearance.

It's well documented that she deliberately doesn't smile because she is self conscious about her mouth and worried about laughter lines.

That's why she has a reputation for being a grumpy cow because of how she looks in photos, when most people who have actually met her say she is absolutely charming.
