Just opened the M&S app and saw the little 1 beside Sparks.

Oh goodie. Will it be free chocolate or percy pigs? Or even 20% off women's clothes?

Nope. It was:

Drum roll.

A free paper bag!!!! Be still my beating heart, I can't contain my excitement.

So, aibu in thinking I have just received the worst ever freebie or can you beat that?

I got 20% off all the items from my last M&S order which arrived this morning so I'm delighted

The only thing on there at the moment as all my offers went a couple of days ago is a Sparks Day out for less

HappiDaze · 31/10/2023 00:34

The 20% off was for clothes

CallieQ · 31/10/2023 00:37

Free pastry here Grin

WildFlowerBees · 31/10/2023 03:20

M&S rewards are crap now, 50p off a cake. Could they spare it.

TheGoldenGhouls · 31/10/2023 06:11

Mine is definitely linked to my shopping habits, I always get a discount on things I’ve just bought 😤The last time it happened I returned what I’d bought and bought it again at the discounted price.

I did get my breakfast for free once though.

ILJ28 · 31/10/2023 06:43

@Theredfoxfliesatmidnight

this is awful!! However… there may be a silver lining for you OP… you could claim your free bag, sustain a paper cut and then sue M&S for thousands for pain and suffering. So not just a 60p bag after all!! @OchonAgusOchonOh

Redbushteaforme · 30/10/2023 20:15

Lucky you!!! They tried (unsuccessfully) to charge me 40p for one of those bags last week. (I declined.)

I was about to ask if they usually charge for a paper bag!

mokjkjjo · 31/10/2023 08:43

No freebies for me. There aren’t even any money off offers, though when there are they’re always on things I never buy - I don’t think I’ve ever had a relevant sparks offer. I buy kids clothes/ uniform a few times a year but never food, so maybe that’s why.

Fieldofbrokenpromises · 31/10/2023 08:47

I couldn’t have the “tote bag” gift from Ocado as there were none in stock, but this week I can have an Ocado magazine

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/10/2023 08:52

OchonAgusOchonOh · 30/10/2023 22:25

That sounds excellent. I could use the 11 paper bags to make a new outfit. I'm very talented with a stapler.

😂

Sainsbury's does this, the b@stards!

Don't mock they cost 40p/60p depending on where you are!!

As someone that has just left the employment of M and S, I can confirm the new paper bags are causing huge problems behind the scenes, no wonder they are trying to promote them.

The main problem not being disintegration in the rain as everyone thinks. The massive problem is that being made of very thick strong paper, varnished with special strong resin and filed to make a clean line at the top they are causing a large amount of quite serious injuries. Bad paper cuts, by which I mean slashing the palm clean open. Sufficiently that in the M and S I work(ed) in there has to be a first aid kit including bandages behind every till now.

So what you're telling me is that they are trying to kill me. I know business is bad but I didn't think they'd move into contract killing to make ends meet.

Next question is who has taken out the contract on me (and the others on this thread who thought they were lucky getting such an amazing freebie) and why?

Ooh, I like the way you're thinking. Anyone know a good barrister?

It's fair enough to get a discount on food products you've just bought, because as often as not you'll be buying them again pretty soon.

Less useful on winter coats, duvets, packets of 160 dishwasher tablets etc.

ILJ28 · 31/10/2023 09:28

@OchonAgusOchonOh just check those T&Cs though and make sure it doesn’t say… ‘M&S is not liable for any injury sustained in the collection of the free, reusable paper bag’

thank you for starting this thread, it is totally irrelevant to me as I live in Oz, but has given me a giggle so thank you 😊

LIZS · 31/10/2023 09:40

Nothing here. It is a bit rubbish, I've had the odd jute bag or gift box in the past.

Z1hun · 31/10/2023 09:43

I'm sorry that really made me chuckle when I should have been paying attention on a zoom call!!! Better than what I got this week which was nothing 🤣🤣

FiveShelties · 31/10/2023 09:46

This is really weird, when I checked last night, I had apparently used all my offers. Have just checked and now I have a FREE pack of four pears.

How strange is that.

Perhaps I could have your bag@OchonAgusOchonOh to put them in!

Yep!

And even less useful on pet insurance . . .

So you mean there is a danger I may not be able to retire on the proceeds?

Tell you what, I'll lend it to you as i will probably need to keep it as evidence for the court case.

This is hilarious I do think this thread needs popping on X and tagging M&S. For sure you wont be the only people, paper bag lol.
