To think this card is inappropriate?

Saw this in a supermarket the other day. I find it very distasteful and almost upsetting. Surely if we're condemning sexual violence, we're condemning all sexual violence? Rape jokes are not acceptable, so why is a card joking about serious sexual assault OK?

To think this card is inappropriate?

Hang on! No! He did not commit arsicide! She rammed it up his arse in anger at his patriarchal condescending abuse!

She might have, or he might have. The beauty with the joke not been spelled out in minute detail is that people can interpret the joke in multiple ways.

EarringsandLipstick · 27/10/2023 22:24

I do sometimes wonder if I am autistic because I can take things really literally. This is one of those occasions.

Whatever about other occasions, I can't see why you'd wonder if you took this too literally.

It isn't clear what's intended exactly. However it is clear it's intending to joke about an assault.

People joke about murder and suicide. Yes, almost any topic can be funny if it is delivered well and in the right context. Poking fun at sensitive themes or victims is not funny. There's a difference.

This joke is very clearly about the common phrase 'up your arse' etc. as someone has already said better than I have

Not that clearly though - I am not the only one who did not get that reference, and I am far from stupid.

@WhycantIkeepthisbloodyplantalive

What are you talking about? It's possible to have views and responses to a variety of matters & to varying extents.

Zombiemama84 · 27/10/2023 22:26

🤦🏻‍♀️ is all.

joking about sexual assault? omfg, who even looks at a card like that and thinks that? the card is crap but seriously

Prefend · 27/10/2023 22:26

Oh lord. So give over. Light humour at the worst rolls eyes

Who looks at a card like that and thinks it's HILARIOUS?

EarringsandLipstick · 27/10/2023 22:27

It’s a play on “shove it up your arse”

Except ... there's no 'play'. It's stated quite clearly. You seem to be implying there is some subtlety!

Damnloginpopup · 27/10/2023 22:27

I'm determined to go and buy it now. Frame it I will too.in the hoover cupboard.

Cas112 · 27/10/2023 22:28

You all actually need to get a life😂 if you don't like the card.. don't buy it and move on

Manipulatorsbemanipulating · 27/10/2023 22:28

Sunshineclouds11 · 27/10/2023 20:59

It's not that deep

I'd imagine it's fairly deep

Zombiemama84 · 27/10/2023 22:28

I agree its not hilarious in the slightest but not really worthy of a whole thread about it - says me wasting my time commenting on it 😆

The OP herself said she didn’t grasp that part of the joke. And no, it isn’t stated, it’s implied. Which people with a literal mind (for example, but not exclusively, someone who has autism) might not pick up on.

EarringsandLipstick · 27/10/2023 22:30

don't buy it and move on

I am going to take the 2nd part of your advice and move on ...! It's been depressing seeing how many posters are ok with this.

However, the idea that 'if you don't like it, just move on' applied to so many things is really trite - if someone objects to (in this case) sexual assault forming the basis for humour, they have a right to voice that. They don't need to just not buy it and move on, if they wish to articulate their view.

fluffypotatoes · 27/10/2023 22:31

Hang on. So she's vacuuming. And he says "you missed a bit" and then are you saying she's told him to shove it up his arse and he's willingly done so, got carried away with it and ended up in A&E?

MK19590 · 27/10/2023 22:32

I don't personally find it funny

Deadringer · 27/10/2023 22:32

As a joke, its not inappropriate, jokes can be about literally anything, and some people will find it funny, some won't. But for a card in a supermarket, yes I think it's inappropriate. What kind of card is it anyway, birthday maybe? Seems weird.

I mean, exactly ...

The creator of the card isn't blessed with any great wit or intelligence.

It's 'throw a few words down, giggle at man getting sexually assaulted (even when it doesn't actually make sense) but it's funny anyway. Somehow'

No dear, she’s shoved it up his arse.

Damnloginpopup · 27/10/2023 22:34

My mate Henry got a vacuum cleaner stuck up his arse yesterday.

I called the hospital to see how he was today and the doctor said he was picking up nicely.

BIossomtoes · 27/10/2023 22:33

Then it is assault

DelightfullyDotty · 27/10/2023 22:36

It just isn’t funny. Only fans of Mrs Brown’s Boys would find it amusing.

I’ve noticed that many Sainsbury’s cards are similar to this lately.

WandaWonder · 27/10/2023 22:36

I wonder if there is a check list handed around so people take turns in being offended?

Your drip feeding dramaticness has a fake quality about it

Mydogmybestfriend · 27/10/2023 22:37

Nothing I could say on here without breaking talk guidelines 🤷‍♀️

This is just unfunny boomer humour.

Is there nothing we can't blame on boomers?
