We’ve just been in Smyths and someone on the radio just said that trick or treating starts tonight… it’s not a full weekend thing now is it? Ready to take my 2 year old out for the first time on Tuesday and just checking I haven’t somehow missed something 🙈🤷‍♀️

Always just on Halloween here

Mummumgem · 27/10/2023 14:30

yes it’s Tuesday, maybe the stores doing a weekend thing ?

thebellagio · 27/10/2023 14:30

It's definitely a one night only thing.

We have a village event where people put their pumpkins out this weekend, and we've decorated our house today, but the actual trick or treating itself is the 31st October only.

Finestreason · 27/10/2023 14:30

Oh dear god, that is ridiculous. WTF.

Halloween creep. It’s a fucking day not a season.

TeenDivided · 27/10/2023 14:31

Tuesday.
Strictly one night only.

Peridot1 · 27/10/2023 14:32

Halloween is on the 31st. Which is Tuesday.

I have seen before people wanting to go Trick or Treating at the weekend though if it falls on a school night but that is not Halloween!

If anyone knocked here before Tuesday they’d be disappointed!

floatingnoodle · 27/10/2023 14:32

Definitely on the 31st only, and only to houses that have a Jack o’lantern.

waterlane · 27/10/2023 14:33

Yes absolutely on the 31st only and only to houses with a pumpkin out or decorations

Indeed. Houses near me have had decorations up since September. Some last year kept them up until they swapped them for Xmas ones.

AgentProvocateur · 27/10/2023 14:38

Unless you’re in Kilmarnock in Ayrshire, when it’s always the last Friday in October.

cocksstrideintheevening · 27/10/2023 14:46

Tuesday. Always the 31st. There some Halloween parties here this weekend but def no trick or treating.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 27/10/2023 14:49

Some people don't want to take their kids out on a school night so will go this weekend

evtheria · 27/10/2023 14:50

Definitely on the actual night here, no matter if it's a school night and your kids are v young.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 27/10/2023 14:50

Always on the 31st.
Anyone going before is likely to be disappointed.

Marmite27 · 27/10/2023 14:52

They’d be disappointed round these parts, only on the actual day here.

SirenSays · 27/10/2023 14:53

Lots of people here are trick or treating this weekend.

TeenDivided · 27/10/2023 14:54

Some people don't want to take their kids out on a school night so will go this weekend

People won't have the usual indicators of being ready such as lit pumpkins.
They may well not have sweets in.
It will just generally annoy people.

Once the clocks have gone back it will be dark earlier. Kids can go out between 5.30 and 6.30 trick or treating even on a school night.

Setyoufree · 27/10/2023 14:54

Not a chance on the weekend around here. I don't see the issue with it being a school night, it's dark even in the south very early - can have done it and back home before 6:30!

RedPony1 · 27/10/2023 14:54

waterlane · 27/10/2023 14:33

This always gets me!

I love Halloween, the decorations, the pumpkins, the parties. But i HATE Trick or Treating with a passion.

I want to decorate my house outside but can't because of this rule 😂

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/10/2023 15:00

You’re right - always just one day

I did make that mistake when my daughter was 3 - thinking we could go out on the 30th which was on a Sunday and is her birthday. And then realised that that wasn’t a thing!

Floralnomad · 27/10/2023 15:01

Only on the actual day around here .

Birch101 · 27/10/2023 15:02

It's Tuesday and if I house isn't decorated/ have a pumpkin outside don't knock

Peridot1 · 27/10/2023 15:08

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 27/10/2023 14:49

But it’s not Halloween until Tuesday. It doesn’t matter about school nights or weekends. Halloween is the 31st. You can’t arbitrarily move it to fit in with weekends. I grew up in Ireland where Halloween has always been a big thing and we managed fine to cope with it falling on a school night.

Tough! It’s 31st October only and no treats will be available at this door on any other date!

Plus, it’s half term here next week so less reason to worry about little ones staying up later than usual.

Laiste · 27/10/2023 15:15

Some of the folks in the village have gone mad with their decorations already. Days ago in fact.

I think it muddys the waters so to speak, for the fact that it's one specific night.

As pps have said - i'll do pumpkins, DD will go T&Ting and we'll answer the door with sweets on 31st only.

and only till 8pm.
