Husband and outdoor light

brightblueskies80 · 26/10/2023 18:51

We have an exterior light that is motion sensored.
Our neighbours (students) wave in front of the light to turn it on so that they can see their front door in the dark or put their bins out.
I think this is perfectly reasonable.
Husband thinks it's not theirs to use and that we shouldn't be paying for them to illuminate their front garden. He keeps turning the light off when they need it on.

AIBU to think this is incredibly tight and unnecessary?

What a meanypeg....

Haha, a new favourite MN expression! Very apt too.

Paperbagsaremine · 26/10/2023 20:27

Who pissed in his porridge, long ago, to prompt this sort of overreaction?

KyeeMaClune · 26/10/2023 20:29

If it is an LED bulb (most likely) get him to do some maths on how much the light costs to run it. They are students, it isn't their house, no way the landlord is putting up an outside light for them.

brightblueskies80 · 26/10/2023 20:53

Of course I knew I was not the unreasonable one but thanks for the back-up!
I wonder if I can get him to read this now 😂

Very Victor Meldrew. I'd find that difficult to live with.

DiscoBeat · 26/10/2023 21:30

Yes it's mean! It's not as if they're sitting in the light for hours, using lots of energy and bulbs.

Jewelspun · 26/10/2023 21:32

It's actually a good way to see if it's working properly.

Someone like your husband is not going to change. It runs through his blood. How on earth can you be with someone like this??? And the thought of children witnessing their father behaving these…. Meanly and pathetically is 🤢

ThePoshUns · 27/10/2023 07:14

Eeww how mean.

MaryJanesonabreak · 27/10/2023 07:18

Wow. Don’t overstate it or anything will you 😂

Oh dear. Fact you think that someone who does this wouldn’t also do many many other mean pathetic things day in and day out… sages a lot. About you!

AppleKatie · 27/10/2023 07:28

🤣 does it indeed. Always good to keep perspective eh?

Look OP it’s obviously tight and unnecessary behaviour but only you will know how that translates to the rest of his personality.

😂 I think you should reread the OP

this is a man who sees students going out to put their rubbish in bins and waving to use the light, he then rushes over to the switch to turn it off.

You think someone like this is not very very likely to be a fundamentally mean person?

ok

cultureplanet · 27/10/2023 07:33

Can you actually imagine watching your husband dash over to the switch to turn it off so that your neighbours can use the few seconds of light to assist them out the bins out?

cultureplanet · 27/10/2023 07:33

or worse… watching your father do this 🤮

AppleKatie · 27/10/2023 07:40

Perhaps have a cup of tea and chill your boots for a bit? I’d be more worried about being in close proximity to you than the OP’s husband at the moment.

MasterBeth · 27/10/2023 08:14

What a douchebag

Amberlady · 27/10/2023 08:18

Have the students pissed him off and this is some weird passive aggressive revenge?

SinnerBoy · 27/10/2023 08:24

Did you know his name was Ebenezer before you said your vows?

i am seeing that this man’s behaviour re the light is something that you can relate to!

AppleKatie · 27/10/2023 09:34

Yes, you’re right I’m an awful terrible person 😂😂😂

Did you read the bit of my post where I sympathised with the OP for her DH being a dick?

you are taking this awfully personally? Did you have to put your bins out in the dark last night? 🤣🤣🤣

I did, yes

but thankfully my neighbour isn’t a mean spirited man rushing to turn off the light so aide me

I have this image of your husband doing this. But unlike the OP…. You’re watching gleefully from the bedroom window! 😂

AnchorWHAT · 27/10/2023 09:44

Buy him a solar powered one for xmas?
