Would you judge a mother who was sat in a pub, early afternoon, having a wine and reading a book while she had a infant with her?

OP posts:
mugboat · 23/10/2023 18:28

this was you wasn't it OP? no absolutely not 😆 I'd think "I like her style"

paintingvenice · 23/10/2023 18:28

I’d be bloody jealous. Good on her

Thanksforreading · 23/10/2023 18:31

This!! Wish I could do the same!

NotSuchASmugMarried · 23/10/2023 18:41

Yes I would. How would they get the child to hospital if they've been drinking.

ChickHenLittle · 23/10/2023 18:42

Nope, no reason to judge at all.

The exact same way a non driver would.

But tbh, I don't understand the going somewhere public to read a book.

Merryoldgoat · 23/10/2023 18:42

Yes - I’d judge her to be a genius and wonder why I never thought to do it.

A taxi? A lift? There are plenty of people that have a glass of wine in the evening when they have children. What do you think they would do then?

Hazey19 · 23/10/2023 18:43

Nope. Good on her! X

Are parents not allowed to drink alcohol ever then, just incase their child takes Ill or has an accident? You can’t live like that, people are still entitled to some down time.

Legendairy · 23/10/2023 18:45

Absolutely not. Sounds like a lovely relaxing thing to do.

Re the driving to hospital, there's always one 🙄 plenty of people don't drive so totally irrelevant.

Busephalus · 23/10/2023 18:45

Notsuchasmugmarried, what a very car-centric view you have of the world

Singsonggsu · 23/10/2023 18:46

Absolutely not.
If it was a man with a pint sat with his kid would anyone even bat an eyelid or wonder if anyone would judge? I think not.

Taxi?

What a pathetic response.

Orangello · 23/10/2023 18:48

Hospital? Was the child ill and in dire need of medical attention, but mother was in the pub reading a book? Yes in this case I would judge as well, but OP didn't say there was anything wrong with the child.

Why are they taking the child to hospital? Did they have a pre arranged appointment?

vernatheraven · 23/10/2023 18:49

No not at all.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 23/10/2023 18:50

No, good on her!

Sittingonthefence83 · 23/10/2023 18:50

No, I've done the same thing myself !

pizzaHeart · 23/10/2023 18:51

deep inside I would, no gender bias here as I would feel the same if it’s a man.
I would think: and why it can’t be something non alcoholic especially so early?

Zoomdoom · 23/10/2023 18:51

A small glass no, a bottle or mahoossive glass that might as well be half a bottle, yes.

JustALittlePotatooo · 23/10/2023 18:52

"why weren't my babies ever quiet for long enough for me to read a book in peace and quiet?!" would be my initial thought.

Definitely wouldn't judge though. Would be thoroughly jealous but that's it!

Actually, this is one scenario where I think a man drinking pints with a baby beside him would be absolutely assumed to be a deadbeat. Whereas a mum with a glass of wine and a book - not so much,

jiinglebells · 23/10/2023 18:54

Depends, sleeping baby non the wiser, not at all. Bored toddler being ignored? Definitely!

pictoosh · 23/10/2023 18:55

No, not at all.
