Parking Etiquette- (ir)rational rage

This happened about 9.30am this morning but DH has just put a cup of tea in front of me and I’ve mentioned it again and he’s told me (jokingly) I need to get over it, but it’s still giving me the rage!!

I’ll try and attach a photo as I might not describe it properly, but we were driving along in a supermarket car park, one way road, disabled spaces in the middle and notice spaces the other side so you have to drive round to get there. As we’re driving round the car behind cuts through the disabled spaces and STEALS OUR SPACE! DH doesn’t bat an eyelid and carries on and parks in another space a few down. I’m all for leaping out the car and giving her a piece of my mind but apparently that would be an overreaction.

Am I being unreasonable to think you don’t do that?! You follow the one way road and park in order?

I’m all for digging out one of DS’s balaclavas, tracking her down and slashing her tyres…(obviously not)

Nah, its fair game, if your DH had cut through to snipe the space, would you have told him to reverse back out of it?

AdultingIncorrectly · 22/10/2023 19:12

You got a space a few down so let it go.

If it was Christmas week and that was the last available space then I’d understand you still feeling aggrieved.

Awrite · 22/10/2023 19:14

Your dh is like my dh. Nothing fazes him about the cheeky fucker driving of others. He's almost zen like.

However, I do sneakily admire this women so I can't side with you here.

1990thatsme · 22/10/2023 19:15

This would barely have registered as an issue for me.

I don’t mean to be snarky, but are there other problems on your mind?

FawnFrenchieMum · 22/10/2023 19:17

I mean I’d be like WTF but also liable to occasionally do stuff like that! So neither is being unreasonable!

Yeah this basically.

ColleenDonaghy · 22/10/2023 19:36

It's fine unless there was something risky about the manoeuvre like pulling into traffic or something.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 22/10/2023 19:38

That would annoy me too. Not something to dwell on for ages but I would complain at the time.

Zebedee999 · 22/10/2023 19:48

I'm with you OP, I follow the roads around car parks, spaces are for parking not driving through, especially to pip someone to a space. Sometimes get prats drive the wrong way around to get to a space first too.

Sadly you must accept you are sharing planet earth with inconsiderate people who won't wait their turn or do the right thing.

TheGooseDrankWine · 22/10/2023 19:52

If it was the last space and you were queuing to get it: Operation Tyre Slash Go! Go! Go!

As other spaces were available: but if an eye roll.

rwalker · 22/10/2023 19:52

Very annoying for all of 5 minutes till u park up in another space

I think your DH will be more pissed off at u banging on about it than losing the space in the 1st place

chickbean · 22/10/2023 19:53

Not unreasonable. You should have gone the full Kathy Burke on her.

I’d be annoyed too but I’m all about following the rules in car parks

We had it this weekend when we were shopping. One way system so we followed it round, found a space then someone came up from the wrong way and stole the space! I was annoyed as heavily pregnant and there were not many other spaces.

mondaytosunday · 22/10/2023 19:59

Fair game I'm afraid, she wouldn't know you were going round to take that space particularly- you could have been turning to leave.,
What would he annoying is waiting patiently for someone to move out of a space snd another car swerving past and taking it - I did go up to challenge her and she just shrugged and said I had no right to be angry (very defensive she started before I'd even said anything so she knew she was in the wrong).

HelenFisksBrownSuit · 22/10/2023 20:02

I just want to say I really appreciate the diagram. Especially the label 'wanker'. 😆

MechyMagic · 22/10/2023 20:11

If car park is empty of other waiting cars I totally do that.

But if its like a queue type thing then I'm totally with you. Park in turn people - it's the British way 🤣

Completely unrelated... a centre punch tool to the window is far better than slashing tyres... but as I say... completely unrelated 🤣

Abitofalark · 22/10/2023 20:17

It's not worth bothering about a one-off incident with someone you'll never see again. It would be different if it was a repeated offence.

That said, the diagram is top class. I can't remember one as good for clarity and simplicity, and I was charmed by the drawing of the cars, which is a delight.

tttigress · 22/10/2023 20:17

Is it actually illegal to drive over disabled spaces if you don't park in them?

It is a bit annoying, but you did get a space.

HeddaGarbled · 22/10/2023 20:32

I bet you wind your way laboriously through completely empty queue chicanes as well, don’t you?

There are times to dither about and there are times to act efficiently and decisively.

TeeedleDum · 22/10/2023 21:09

Love the diagram and I agree, they are a wanker. I'd be annoyed too

DilemmaDelilah · 22/10/2023 21:24

I think it is something I might have done, as I quite often use empty parking spaces as short cuts. (Only when safe!) However I would NEVER drive the wrong way up a one-way system.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 22/10/2023 22:16

I never knowingly steal someone’s space but I will 100% drive the wrong way in a car park, especially when it’s quiet.

PrueLeith · 22/10/2023 22:18

DEFINITELY not cricket. I'd be raging too.

Shodan · 22/10/2023 22:30

I bet they used to cheat at Musical Chairs too.

Disgraceful behaviour.
