To think this isn't a normal show for a 14 year old girl to be interested in?

My niece has taken interest in this show recently, its not exactly innapropriate but aibu to wonder why she's interested in it?

The show is This is Us, from what i can tell it's made for adults and isn't advertised to teenagers at all. I thought most girls that age were watching Riverdale or Pretty Little Liars (I know my slightly younger dd is.) I'm not bothered that she watches the show I'm just wondering why shes interested 😂

Asked my sister why her daughter was watching a show meant for 30-somethings and she got annoyed, am I completely out of touch and unreasonable?

Milo ventimiglia's naked arse. Completely innapropriate for a 14 year old imo

Can't believe you created a whole thread just to get to a point where you could claim Milo Ventimiglia's bare naked arse for the win.

Kudos OP. Well played.

As a teen of the 90s, I loved Prisoner: Cell Block H, This Life, Taggart and Soldier Soldier. I can even remember being creeped out in the 80s by Life and Loves of a She Devil.

i’m sure a 14 year old can cope with seeing a bottom.

It’s a great show. Absolutely fine for a teenager.

I mentioned upthread that I watched a lot of period dramas at this age - well most of these included graphic sex and violence including grisly execution scenes.

One arse is mild for a 14 year old.

You're up in arms about a blokes bare arse on TV and a teen seeing it??
I'd loosen your stays if I were you.

ZiriForEver · 23/10/2023 08:38

Teenagers don't have a duty to be explainable, predictable, or interested in things marketed for them. It is a bit odd to expect it.

If you have a good relationship with your DN, you may try asking her what she likes about it. If you don't, just add it to the pile of odd things, asking different third parties won't help you.

twilightcafe · 23/10/2023 08:39

What's it got to do with you, OP?

She's probably seen worse in real life OP... 14 year olds are not as innocent as you think.

Mumof1andacat · 23/10/2023 08:49

At 14 I loved watching ER and bad girls.

fedupwithbeinghot · 23/10/2023 11:24

If a bare bottom is the worse she's seen so far, that's surprising. There's nothing odd about a teenager liking "this is us"

The context of nudity is everything, but I suspect the OP wouldn't find Michelangelo's David suitable for a 14 year old.

This is a thought that always comes to mind when reading about people's expectations of young teens, the things I would overhear as a teacher would make many posters' hair curl! When I did intervene after overhearing one particularly disturbing exchange the mother of one of the girls complained that I should mind my own f-ing business!
